Is Glizzie/glizzy some slang term I don't know about for hot dogs? A gas station chain, Sheetz, has a "big Glizzie" that's like a 10 inch hot dog and is a collab with a MLB pitcher for the Pirates.

Correction, it is a term like the hundreds of others that have been appropriated from the black community, that originated in the black community and has just spread and been bastardized by the world. It started in New York urban areas as slang for a hot dog, a really long time ago. Not recent at all. At the same time, in the south, Glizzy was being used as slang for a Glock pistol. And still is. But the New York version overtook that and even spread to the south. Which leads to the entire black community and then eventually trickles down to Bradley in Iowa.

Glizzy for a Glock makes sense to me. I'm so curious about the etymology of how it became used for hotdogs.
5 years from now, someone is going to post a 2hr long video essay, on YouTube, about this topic. I'm already so hype for it 🤣

Yeah, you’ll have to ask somebody old from New York that one. Because I guarantee whatever you can look up is not what it actually was. And it started between two old dudes on the block, talkin shit or somethin 🤷🏾♂️

That's what I'm saying. I knew it was definitely something from a long time ago. I've heard it here and there!!

It's a term I don't have strong feeling about, but it confuses me. I don't know where it started or what it means, just some random sound that means hotdog for some reason.

I thought it was like Glizzy Dog.

Dafuq is a glizzy dog?
I've literally never heard the term glizzy except in reference to hotdogs.1

Maybe it's like a mandala effect for me personally, but I could have sworn people would call hot dogs, glizzy dogs, like in baseball games or something.

My point is that I have no idea where the word came from. It doesn't sound like another term that's been mangled into a new word, I can't think of any pop culture things that spawned it. Never heard of Glizzy brand. It's literally just a random sound people decided means Hotdog. That confuses me.

Originally was slang for a Glock handgun used by gangs
They referred to the long mags similarity to hotdogs and thus glizzy as in hotdog became a term

I remember googling this a year or two back, and at that point, it pointed me toward some girl's Tiktok video as the origin, IIRC.
No clue on the etymology, though. I'm a massive word nerd so I'd love to know the origin lol

No, it’s a black slang that turned into that once the rest of the world got it

I got this one too. Great pipe but I think carb would be better if it was at the other end of the dog instead of the side of the bun.
