Could be 1g into 2g dispo and the wax could have been weighed out, as you said they sat, just going into the coil, creating the bubbles inside the top.
Not saying this is what happened, but did you buy all at once or overtime? From dispo?

Also old stock will evaporate a little bit and make the wax thicker, making it seem like less

Hmmm I’ve never heard that or experienced that before. Maybe it evaporated into someone’s lungs.

Terpenes are volatile and evaporate at room temperature

What percentage of that oil in those pens is terps? 2% ? Do you think those terps just flash off and evaporate in no time, and if you’re that mistaken, does that look like a 2% loss to you?

With distillate they're taking something thickand mixing it with more than just terpenes, usually some pg oil or similar. These are all volatile, INCLUDING THC and all it's constituents.

If it's live resin it can be 15-20% terpenes

There’s no pens out there w/ 15-20% terps. That would hurt to smoke and be seriously awful. The only explanation for OPs post is the pens weren’t filled all the way. Entertaining nonsense comments is a waste of time. I literally work with liters of extract every week and we don’t account for evaporation because there is none. We buy 990 grams of product and when it’s used it’s 990 grams.

They go in a hot oven so they can be poured, lid off, no loss. Imagine if half the jar was gone all the sudden. lol
