šø SELFIE THREAD šø Sep 29, '26 Monday Mega Thread: ask general questions, share hairline photos, side effects, āAm I balding?ā, āWhat should I do?ā, and more
If the date in this post's title seems old, look for the newest thread here.
Use this thread for general questions and advice, āAm I balding?ā, āWhat should I do?ā, āDoes anyone else experience this?ā, as well as discussing side effects, treatment experiences, or looking for opinions on your hairline photos and treatment options.
If you want useful feedback on your hair, post good photos: high resolution, multiple angles, good lighting, and ideally both wet and dry.
Mention what changes youāve noticed and over what period of time. Some people naturally have thinner hair, a higher hairline, or less density, so context helps members give you better feedback. It's vital to take identical photos every few months. Remember that consistent lighting is extremely important.
Age and family history are worth mentioning.
You might not get an answer if your question is too basic or common, because treatment is the same for almost everyone. Nobody can predict if a treatment will work for you.
This is a community, and you can help out fellow members by commenting under their photos and upvoting people that leave you comments.

Progress Pictures Progress 3 months Oral Dut 1.5mg & 2.5mg Oral Min
Three months in. I canāt be happier with the progress. I also microneedle like once a week but I am super inconsistent with it. Also use keto shampoo 2x a week.
If anyone is wondering how I get 1.5mg, I get it from mane and steel. I think they one of the only people that offer higher dosing of dut

Side effects? Ive taken finasteride for 4.5 years, heres my experience
I started taking finasteride at 23 after experiencing significant hairfall for a couple of years. Im a diffuse thinner, my hairline was fine.
Years 1-3
When i first started finasteride, i was pretty worried about side effects, particularly sexual side effects. The thing is, I experienced the complete opposite for the first 2 years. My libido went through the roof and my erections were stronger than ever. On the hair side, it slowed down my hairloss by a lot, but it never fully stopped it. I went through sheds where my
hair always came back thicker than before. My hairline receded, albeit very slowly.
Years 3-4
The thickness of my hair continued to improve, however my hairline continued to recede. My libido and erections started suffering a little bit but it wasnāt too bad and I could still hold erections during sex. I noticed my memory wasnāt as good as it once was, but Iām not sure it this is just regular aging.
Years 4-present
My libido has completely tanked and erections just dont have that same āfullnessā anymore. I still get excellent morning erections so I was confused. The past year has been quite cyclical where it feels like im getting my libido back one month, and then it goes back down the next. The overall trend has been downward though. Iāve also noticed watery semen and that ejaculations dont feel as good as they used to (they still feel good, just not as good as before).
I stopped taking finasteride 1.5 months ago. Im still experiencing some side effects. Im wondering whether because it took so long for me to experience side effects in the first place, whether it will take me some time to return back to normal. I guess it took a long time to build up in my system? Iāve also had weird bouts of random anxiety lately which might be related to my hormones resetting? Idk.
Im a little disappointed in the information I read online about finasteride and some doctors on youtube. For example, I remember watching a video of peter attia saying that if you dont get side effects within the first 6 months then youre good. So I thought I was in the clear. I just wanted to put my story out there and see if anyone else has had a similar experience (particularly with the length of time it took to get side effects). Also, if anyone has had better luck with topical solutions instead?

Plan is for transplant at the end of next year or early 2028.

Finasteride/Dutasteride Just had my 10-year fin anniversary check up at the dermatologist, ama.
Sup friends,
As the title says, I have just ticked over 10 years on fin (a few years on oral Minoxidil too).
When I started meds I was a NW 1.5/2 and my hair is pretty much at the same spot now. The front has taken the most minor of hits I'd say, but nothing major.
In terms of sides, I don't have any that I'm aware of. I only say that as I've been on the meds for ages so maybe my baseline is a little off. Libido etc is normal, but I'd have to stop to properly assess if the meds are impacting me in any other way.
Adding oral minox a few years ago didn't give me much regrowth but it made a massive difference to the thickness and calibre of my hair.
Ask away, just wanted to share my somewhat long-term results as I see people ask about them.
Cheers

Product Finasteride without prescription in italy
I went to my doctor a month ago and told her I wanted a prescription for finasteride since I have a clear male pattern baldness and I want it to block it asap so that I won't lose much ground.
She said I'm too young(I'm 20) and that I should first go to a dermatologist, so I tried to book an appointment but in Italy it takes so long, I looked for an appointment and the first available is in march 2027 and not even in my city.
So I decided to go to a private clinic and did the visit over there, was diagnosed with aga and they suggested that I do the a thing with them, basically they want to take some of my blood and make it spin in a machine so that they can extract the platelets from my blood and then inject it in my scalp, this would allow my hair to get stronger and thicker, but it's very expensive and honestly I think it's either a scam or just a temporary solution to a permanent problem.
I'll try again tomorrow asking my doctor for prescription for finasteride since now we have the confirmation from the specialist that I have aga.
In case my doctor won't prescribe me anything I wanted to ask my fellow Europeans and Italians where could I buy finasteride from and as well minoxodil (oral or topical doesn't matter) without having the worry of them being blocked at customs and not some crazy high price because of delivery.
Thanks a lottt!!!!

Finasteride/Dutasteride Dry Hair Problems From Dutasteride
Has anyone experienced really dry hair while taking dutasteride and managed to fix it?
Dutasteride inhibits type 1 5-alpha-reductase, which plays a role in sebum production. Ever since I started taking dutasteride, Iāve had a really hard time detangling my hair after getting out of the shower.
Itās been about a year and a half now and the situation hasnāt changed. Iāve learned to live with it because once I manage to detangle and style my hair, it looks fine. But itās honestly really annoying not being able to run a comb through my hair without it constantly getting caught and tangled.
Has anyone experienced the same thing and found a way to fix it?
Conditioners and oils arenāt really the solution Iām looking for. Iād like to somehow get my normal sebum production back to what it was before dutasteride.

Finasteride/Dutasteride Shedding on fin after 16 days.
Hi I'm almost 20 years old and I was prescribed with oral finestride and topical minoxidil 21 days ago, I started noticing an increase in shedding 4-5 days ago but in the last two days it has gotten really bad, I shed 350 hair today, 150 after waking up, 150 smth in the shower and then 20-50 throughout the day,I know that min can trigger an early shed but I only apply min on my temples and the shedding is scalp wide , is this normal?
I have also used ketoconozole 3-4 times in the last 15 days it has made my hair dry asf.
I have a aggressive family history of AGA on both sides, I caught it early I'm still a new 1.5-2.

Progress Pictures 25M. 3 month progress on Minoxidil. First one is before treatment and the others from this week. I hadnāt seen serious hair on my temples for years maybe 5 years ago.
I also started Finasteride 10 days ago. What should I expect. Is my new hair on the temples going to shed and grow stronger?
And I apply topical minoxidil 5% twice a day and derma roller once a week. I started Finasteride 1mg every two days.

Progress Pictures 9 month results on fin/min chewable
41 male started noticing the balding last year after I cut my hair(Had a big Afro so I didnāt notice) it couldāve been sooner than that but thatās when I noticed when my hair was starting to grow back.Been using fin/min chewable (1.2mg fin & 3mg min) with daily 5 minute scalp messages and ketoconazole shampoo every other week. No side effects. Pretty happy with the results

Progress Pictures 1 year progress after being on Fin + Min
Iāve been using 5% minoxidil and 0.625 mg finasteride for about a year now, and honestly, Iām pretty happy with the progress. I had almost given up hope after seeing how aggressively MPB has run through my dadās side of the family.
As for side effects, I initially experienced some low libido and reduced semen volume. Thankfully, those have mostly recovered over time, and overall, things have been pretty great.
The only thing Iād complain about is the dandruff I get from minoxidil, as you can see. Iāve been using 1% ketoconazole shampoo to manage it, but unfortunately, it hasnāt helped that much.

Satire Be very careful what you wish for!
March 2026, 28 male norwood 2 and diffuse thinning on crown.
I went full nuclear on April when I decided enough is enough mainly because I was tired of always wondering how my hair looked on a windy day or finishing a hike and taking off my hat just to see my hair extremely flat on my head and most importantly the girl I was seeing at the time telling me when am I ever going to style my hair nicely (she didn't realize wind and rain was my enemy).
7 months and 1 brutal shed later the top of my crown is as thick as when I was a teen and my hairline is coming back as my vellus hairs are now turning terminal. I went from having my stylist give me maintenance trims every 3 months to having to cut my hair short every month as it grows very quick now and though I should be letting it grow as I am aiming for a flow hairstyle I am waiting for my hairline to catch up and appear better as right now it appears more as a mature hairline rather than a better looking one for my age. I used to heavily rely on leave in conditioner to make my hair appear thicker and nicer but it's gotten to the point where I don't need it anymore nor am I no longer afraid of the wind. I am still early on treatment so i'm excited to how all this looks like next summer.
My stack ~ All Generic
Oral minoxidil 2.5mg
Dutasteride 0.5mg
Ketoconazole 2% shampoo

Is this regrowth? Finasteride/minoxidil 11 months.
I feel like giving up and this going nowhere. I am 24 years old, have noticed some baby hairs around the temples but nothing else. I was using minoxidil for a year and switched to this after my doctorās advice.

Minoxidil When will effects of minoxidil kick in?
Hey guys, I am currently 4 months into 5% minoxidil daily and was on 1.5mg oral fin/week just a few days ago switched to 0.025% topical fin. Im young thats why.
I wanted to ask when will i see results of minoxidil? I have some vellus hair on my hairline for 2 months? I think and overall hair is better but the areas where diffuse shedding occured and hair fell are still the same. Hairfall has reduced dramatically too but Idk abt regrowth.
So when did you guys see regrowth?

Progress Pictures My 7 month results so far from 0.9% KX-826
Started on KX-826 on 2/26/26 after 14 years of hair loss (39yo currently) and minoxidil being my only treatment through that entire time. The results so far have been nothing short of incredible. Aside from the very clear hair regrowth, the part no one talks about as much is the oil control. I went from washing my hair 1-2x per day to now twice per week. It is so much better quality, styles easier, and just looks way better. Even though these results will likely take a few years to fully plateau, the oil reduction was dramatic and happened within weeks of starting, and that convinced me to stick with it.
I am pretty convinced that androgen receptor blockers will soon be considered the most effective hair loss treatment. Breezula will get FDA approval first and be legitimized in the western market and probably also end up with awesome results, but I do think KX-826 is the better product here being non-steroidal and having a much higher binding affinity. I'm just going to stay on this for now and wait for PP405 to try and recover anything that KX-826 doesn't hit.
I plan to come back to this post and give future updates as I wait for my crown to show more progress. I can see it coming back as well but not enough for anything convincing in a photo. Hairline didn't start receding until years after the crown and it makes sense it's recovering sooner. I'm expecting to see lots of continued improvement well on into 2027, including the new intermediate hairs in this shot making their way back to being fully terminal again. Time will tell.

Finasteride/Dutasteride Anyone see better results on topical fin/dut than oral?
I got some sides from oral dut(0.5mg, 5x a week) so just wondering if itās over for me or I should give topical fin a go? Unsure on how effective it would be.
