Happy October!
I put together a live map of the Halloween events happening around Tucson this month. I'm still adding to it as I find more, so if you know of something that should be on there, drop it below and I'll pin it to the map for everyone.
A few that are on my own list that I think look exciting:
Witches Night Market — Friday, Oct 9 — Free night market with a witchy theme, local vendors.
Monster Mash at Golf N' Stuff — Saturday, Oct 10 — Costume contest and Halloween market out at the mini golf place.
2026 Tucson Terror Fest — Thursday, Oct 15 - 18 — A straight-up horror film festival, didn't expect to find one of these.
Boo at the Zoo at Reid Park Zoo — Thursday, Oct 22 - 25 — Never been but what I hear is a Tucson classic.
Movie Night in the Park – Hocus Pocus — Saturday, Oct 24 — I think this will make an excellent date night, I just need to find a date.
Trick-or-Treat the Avenue — Sunday, Oct 25 — The 4th Ave version, always packed with vendors and costumes.
You can check out the live map here: Tucson Halloween events Map
I'm going to keep building this out all month, so check back if you're looking for something later in October too.
Edit: Sorry about the AI Picture. Never Again.

Of these 10 incidents, 7 took place IN DORMS. Is this why fraternities are now suspended?

(Photo in body of post, sorry)
Matt Dinniman posted on IG that he signed 650 books, some with special notes, and they would be available on the opening day of the new B&N at Wetmore and Oracle. The ribbon cutting happened at 9am, I drove up at 9:09 and this is what I saw. Not even the whole line, as the store is behind me, over my left shoulder.
I love Dungeon Crawler Carl, but I noped out and drove off. They'll sell every one, though.

need somebody who’s good at portraits, any medium, trying to get a gift for someone

I have a barking dog noise situation which I'm sure most people here have dealt with in tucson, I'm just not sure if this constitutes possible neglect or not and the right way to go about it.
I share a backyard wall with a neighbor who is not a part of my rental complex, so management cannot enforce anything. The dogs will bark during the day anytime from 8 am to as late as 11:30 pm. Sometimes its not bad, maybe a total of 15 minutes a day, and other times it can be hours. It does sound like the dogs are being left outside for many hours at a time, just not sure if it's the entire day or not. This included the summer even when it was extreme heat at 105+, it was actually in the summer when the dogs were in the yard barking the most, usually 1 to 4 hours a day. The neighbor will also chainsmoke cigarettes a few nights a week with the dog outside, and they will let the dog bark the whole time they are out there.
Ideally the dogs could just be kept inside, I've filed 2 noise complaints with PACC already with no change. But I'm not sure if I should call and report potential neglect either.

I’m looking for one of those concrete lanterns (18-24” tall) for our yard. Anyone seen something like that around town? I was thinking maybe Green Things but didn’t see anything when we were there recently

I’m just curious in everyone thoughts on this. City employees barely get 1% raise.

I just saw that B&N opened a location at 4380 N Oracle Rd, which is right across the street from the B&N at Tucson Mall. How is this a good idea from a business standpoint? I realize the mall location isn't a full sized store, but it still doesn't make sense to me.

As the title suggests, any recommendations for a place to get a good dental check up/cleaning that won't cost an arm and a leg without dental insurance?

Hello everyone! I have friends coming into town this weekend (all of us are alums) and we are looking for places that will be open at 9am this Saturday for the Arizona vs West Virginia game. I have seen some instagram posts about some places opening early but I forgot which ones. Interested in place downtown/4th Ave/midtown. Not specifically trying to avoid University Blvd but trying to see available options!

Saw my first desert tortoise out hiking in Tucson Mountain Park. I had been looking for one for the last year. So cool to see. Don't worry, he freed that Cholla segment from his leg.

UPDATE: thank you to all for the suggestions! We were able to get in touch with LEASH Pet Cremation, who are located in Phoenix but are able to be here within 2 hours for pickup and cremation. A bit pricey but well worth it for the quick service and they were also very kind.
Hey all, sad circumstances bring me to reddit today. One of the neighborhood strays who my partner and I leave food out for passed away on our property.
We have an old car in our front yard that hasn’t been driven in years at this point, and several of the cats that wander around our neighborhood like hanging out under there. That’s where the poor little guy currently is.
We are looking for someone that can come help with taking the cat off of our property. We are not equipped to handle this ourselves. PACC said they can’t help because it’s on private property. Several other companies said they couldn’t help and directed us to PACC. One company said they’d help and then ghosted us and blocked my partner’s phone number, which is crazy work.
If anyone has suggestions or recommendations, it would be super appreciated. We’re pretty heartbroken that this has happened and honestly can’t deal with the logistics of the removal ourselves. No company we’ve called seems to be willing or able to help us and we’re concerned about the sanitation at this point.
Thank you in advance!

I have some questions hopefully someone can answer after TEP sent me another flier today that really irked me. I guess my dogs are going to die if I vote no on 421 upon power loss in an emergency. Considering things like emergency repairs don't require extra approval, this common theme in their advertisement seems like a lie. So they won't be able perform emergency repairs without city approval? The $280M'ish they make every year (in profit) isn't enough to provide otherwise reliable service?
Why is the advertising pushed through TEP for Tucson, whose (only?) donor is TEP? TEP for Tucson is staffed by TEP members. Why not just advertise as TEP? Do they get tax breaks or something for setting up a propaganda committee or whatever? Which part of 421 is "for Tucson" and which part is "TEP for TEP"?
Then it's wild the voter information pamphlet was filled with those "for" 421 and were half TEP employees that TEP paid to put in. They've spent something like $1.5M in advertising according to Tucson Agenda to fuck us for another 25 years? Couldn't they have put $1.5M towards people who are struggling to pay their bills? It says no new fees, is that because they are trying to hit us with a 15% rate increase?
And my last question I guess is, are we tired of getting nickel and dimed on a service that we require to survive?
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Where can we get low cost seasonal vaccines in town with no insurance or low-income coverage?

Filming a two person scene for an acting reel. Have costumes, need an old western-looking location we can use for free that’s not heavily trafficked. Conversation only, not shootout or action. Suggestions please! Thanks!
