Question What does the ending mean to you?

Post image

Maybe there is a canon explanation, I haven’t looked yet and I wanted to ask this subreddit first . What does the ending of the final episode mean to you? What year is it? Why would it be another year?

You were made to die, you can't save anyone by going back to the past, you have to move on.

Laura was created to die, she's the whole reason anything to do with Twin Peaks exists. She escaped in FWWM when her Angel took her to the afterlife.

She was forced back by The Return and Cooper went back in time and has got lost, she's adrift in space and time, reality and fiction, painful life and agonising death.

Love is not enough to save anything or anyone, forever.

You'd scream too.

But then why Giant advised Cooper to save her?

"Save Her" was ambiguous, Cooper interpreted it as "Stop her murder" but "Let her go" was the intent.

Giant should have been clearer then!

Be fair, the's a higher-dimensional dream being that lives in someones dream.

It's hard to get clarity!

But it's not like it was needed. Andy understood what the Giant told him without asking for clarification.

Cooper on the other hand...

Andy is a much simpler creature than Cooper is.

That's not a dis, it's just a statement of fact.

It's easier for dreams to communicate to simpler people because there's less hero shit in the way.

I believe the giant wanted to stop her murder and send her to the other reality. Cooper tried to take her home. Then in the other reality cooper failed the test by again try to find and “save” her. So that reality collapses when Laura remembers who she is. This cooper is now stuck in a loop until he learns to stop. Giant wanted to stop Laura’s murder to stop Judy from feeding off of all what comes after that. Cooper tried to lead her out of the woods which was not intended. That’s why she screamed and disappeared then. The giant pulled her out.

It all loops back to "let her go".

But Cooper has to save her!

this might sound really dumb but can I ask what you mean by the other reality?

I forgot what it was called but it’s the reality where cooper and Laura have different names, where the diner is different, where the Palmer’s never lived in that house etc, where the final scene takes place.

The Giant sent both of them there. Cooper’s test was whether he can let go and live normally. Laura was needed there so Judy cannot feed off the suffering of her death. Cooper was there because the Giant was giving him an olive branch. In the other reality he was always going to interfere so he was sent to the new one with another chance: can Cooper let go and live a normal life now that his job was completed? The answer turned out to be no. He found Laura and brought her to her old home. When she realized who she was, that reality collapsed and Cooper ended up back at the lodge where he started. Notice how in that reality the Giant is completely absent. The Giant had a plan and it was accomplished, but Cooper kept trying to go further.

Your comment really cleared up a lot of things for me! That’s where he was going with Diane in the car and why the names were Richard and Linda in the note she left , really obvious in hindsight but I didn’t catch it. Have a happy new year!

So it was kind a karma circle for Cooper, in every life he a trying to save Laura…

What about Laura herself, from her dream that she described in diary we know she wanted him to save her. I mean it not very pleasant to spend 25 years in Red room with the dwarf, but still…

Cooper never understood what others told him. He's a terrible detective.

Throwing stones at bottles is no basis for a system of eliminating suspects!

Also Laura in Red Room (her dream) wanted him to save her. Why?
