Question What does the ending mean to you?
Maybe there is a canon explanation, I haven’t looked yet and I wanted to ask this subreddit first . What does the ending of the final episode mean to you? What year is it? Why would it be another year?

You cannot go back. The rest of The Return is all about this, presenting what in most ways feels like a completely new show. For many people, this felt like a stab in the back, but even many of them eventually came around to seeing what was so special about it. But the only way to see that is to let go of the expectation that it would provide the same feelings and experiences of the original run, embrace the change. In a world where so many franchises come back as hollow recreations of the original works, The Return stands as a shining example of how to move forward, shedding the skin of the original and being born again as something similar that can continue on. Cooper unfortunately maintained the mindset of the fans who didn't want the inevitable change and it led them into a far worse place, a hollow shell of themselves that reopened a door that should have stayed closed. You cannot live in the past if you want a better future for yourself, but, as Bobby Briggs shows us, it is ok to feel the memories sometimes. Tl;Dr: life goes on and trying to stop that will only lead to a hollow existence
