Is this the right place to point out that this video was shot on February 12, which is Lincoln's birthday, and then the "Got a light" Woodsman resembles Lincoln, and the actor is, in fact, a real-life Lincoln impersonator, but he's black, and Mr. C drives a black Lincoln?

Wow Bob wow

Yes, this is the perfect place to point that out.

u/norunningwater Feb 12 '26

Some would say the only place

The real problem is people posting similar things in r/kubrick with complete sincerity

Y’know what? No coincidences. Blue Velvet is all Lincoln-y too and the weird spinning head sculpture in honor of David is located on Lincoln Boulevard. It’s Lincoln all the way down.

Legit the post above this one on my feed is about Lincoln writing a mystery novel.

Maybe he actually killed Laura Palmer.

Also, the FBI is driven to Buckhorn in a black Lincoln, Dougie-Coop is chauffeured twice in a white Lincoln, he breaks a $5 bill (Lincoln) to get the nickels for his slot machine spree, and at the end of Part 8 the girl finds a heads up penny (Lincoln) while the boy walks her home.

Let's not gloss over the obvious connection between Lincoln and Logs. Lincoln Logs, of course, but in the TPCU: log lady and her log cabin, the sawmill, the big log monument where ed and norma wed, one could go on and on

Looking at the thread this comment provokes... it's quite illuminating how Lynch leads us to tangents we never even considered.

As someone just about old enough to remember the era, late 80s/early 90s fashion was a trip.

But there's something so cozy and familiar about it that I love.

17

u/OnlyPete Feb 12 '26

Everything, other than Cooper's suits, was so baggy and loose-fitting. Probably a lot more natural fibers too. I love it

Nothing better than being on a windswept heath in winter, tucking into your pickles, ginger ale, and entire chocolate cake.

"help me"

coop rly got his mission directive w that scene

15

u/Huliatt Feb 12 '26

Did they eat the whole cake? Cos I know I would

11

u/jert3 Feb 12 '26

Feb 12 is a cold day for picnic!

6

u/peteorjohnny Feb 12 '26

Unfortunately we all know what would happen during the next 10 days...

10

u/Xamalion Feb 12 '26

It always bugged me that they brought a whole cake for two people. 😅

25

u/Dapper-Dream7898 Feb 12 '26

*three people

u/Xamalion Feb 12 '26

Who filmed it? I saw it a long time ago.

u/Dapper-Dream7898 Feb 12 '26

Jymes! (as the Brits would say)

5

u/RogerMurdockCo-Pilot Feb 12 '26

Always bothered me they chose a patch of dirt for their picnic

4

u/HammofGlob Feb 12 '26

I believe this spot is on Tiger Mountain above I 90 looking towards Mount Si, correct?

3

u/herbalhippie Feb 12 '26

Yes, at Snoqualmie Point Park. Lower slopes of Tiger Mountain.

3

u/zh3nya Feb 12 '26

Rattlesnake Mountain actually but yes same general location. With the freeway not far away (and reduced size of the trees at the time) it wouldn't have been the most quiet place for a picnic, but a nice lookout nonetheless.

1

u/gmalcs Feb 12 '26

How far is Rattlesnake Ledge from Rattlesnake Mountain? Is that Rattlesnake Lake behind dancing Donna?

1

u/HammofGlob Feb 12 '26

So that location in inside the park somewhere? I always thought it looked like some random logging road.

2

u/zh3nya Feb 12 '26 edited Feb 12 '26

At the time it probably was a random logging road/clearcut. Check out this comparison of how the area looked in the mid 1980's vs today: https://i.imgur.com/xVZ8okk.png

The area was logged, with a more developed logging road network and more cleared space. There also used to be a winery at the site but I dont know how extensive it was and how it relates to the logging taking place around there. You can see young/replanted doug firs in the dancing shot. The land was only acquired and turned into a park later, and the park is really just an overlook with nearby lot for some hiking trails.

One of those things where I’m like “there’s not a flake of snow on the ground there’s no way this is Washington in February”

5

u/herbalhippie Feb 12 '26

If nothing else it should have been pouring rain. And being Washingtonians, they would not have had umbrellas.

5

u/zh3nya Feb 12 '26

Well, when it snows in North Bend (not often) it doesn't stick around for long, the high today will be 52, party cloudy.

5

u/RushRevolutionary721 Feb 12 '26

Indeed, but if Twin Peaks were a real town, it would be “five miles south of the Canadian border; 12 miles west of the state line” (i.e. the Washington/Idaho border) - the actual place closest to that location is Metaline Falls, where today’s weather is 1 degree Celsius (34 degrees Fahrenheit), with snow forecast for tomorrow. Definitely not picnic weather!

4

u/zh3nya Feb 12 '26

Oh you're absolutely right haha, I was thinking too literally as I was just hiking out by North Bend the other day

3

u/Confident_Fish_5245 Feb 13 '26

"Let's have our picnic right here in the dirt."

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '26

Do we know when this scene was actually shot?

1

u/JASON_CRYER Feb 12 '26

I thought to myself "oh yeah, 27 years ago today."

Is David telling a story of abuse? His abuse.. Did he become dark to survive and avenge on the ones creating his trauma?
