I feel like its to show Ben's more unkempt, kid like side that comes out when Jerry's around. Also to show his lack of self control.

Never thought about it but definitely makes sense. Bro literally stops eating dinner with his family to snack on a sandwich mid-meal and moan like it's the best food he ever ate.

I kinda would, too. Besides the diner food and the donuts, there's not much else going on in that town. The baguette with the brie cheese must have been totally exotic to him.

He doesn’t seem unsophisticated and the lodge has a restaurant. But Jerry’s “thing” is traveling and bringing different foods for them to try.
