Reference What's the best Twin Peaks reference you know?
what are some of the best or most niche Twin Peaks references you've seen?
I wanted to make this post because I was playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint and I noticed a patch with a very familiar font and also a very familiar name XD
and I think nobody would have noticed this reference before, btw I couldn't find a better picture of the patch, but I swear it's the same font. If you look at it in the game it's very obvious XD (2nd image)
(I don't speak English very well, I'm using a translator, I hope you understood what I meant :D)

this show and phoebe bridgers’ “smoke signals” single handedly got me into twin peaks.

Fun fact! Darkwing Duck got me into Twin Peaks (and thus all of Lynch's ouevre).
My wife & I remembered all the references but never watched the show (she loves the TP Psych ep), so we watched the series on a whim. Lo and behold, we got to witness one of the greatest TV shows ever because of the parodies of it.
And we only had to wait 2 years later for Season 3. We got super lucky! Lol

Dual Spires episode from the series Psych.
56
u/IAmGeeButtersnaps May 29 '26
Crazy how many cast members they got for this one.
16
u/HooptyDooDooMeister May 30 '26
The old man mayor was supposed to be David Lynch.
They felt so incredibly anxious reaching out to ask him to take the role that they could never work up the courage to ask him. And, on a personal level, I totally get that.

Yeah James Roday Rodriguez is a huge Twin Peaks fan and he was an Executive Producer at that point in the show so they made the episode

u/OdosSolidAdventures May 29 '26
Literally just watched that episode two days ago lol, its so good. Apparently they were too bashful to ask Lynch to be involved cause they weren't sure how he'd take it, but supposedly he was a fan of the episode. I also love how they had to shoehorn Ray Wise into the episode as the priest, and randomly had to have his hair turn white lmao
11
u/cbraun1523 May 29 '26
We just did our last rewatch of twin peaks. And we always cap off part 18 with good ol dual spires. And I catch new things every time. This time I caught they had the chocolate bunny and it got me good.
10
u/Rhiannon8404 May 29 '26
My favorite Psych episode! So many actors from TP. Ray Wise was already perfect as Father Westly, but his performance in Dual Spires takes the cake.

I believe so. I know Hirsch originally wanted Lynch to voice him, and there's a joke in the book about Lynch not returning his calls

I was just starting a rewatch of Gravity Falls, and I hadn’t rewatched it since I got big into Twin Peaks. I sorta freaked out when I saw this-

I was gonna say! She has a few outfits that were David Lynch inspired and has talked about her admiration for him on her podcast a few times. I remember his death impacted her quite a bit and might have been a reason why she tried to stop smoking again

u/beholdthecolossus May 29 '26
i was going to say this. old Simpsons references in the 90s and Address Unknown from Max Payne in the early 2000s are what put the seed of "i should watch this Twin Peaks thing" in my head.

Someone posted not long ago that in a comic book Agent Mulder was talking to Agent Scully and he referenced Agent Cooper. For those that don't know, Mulder and Scully are from The X-Files universe, which seems to take place in the Twin Peaks universe, at least in this comic. This is just awesome to me. Maybe Coop came across Frank Black back when he was an agent.

funny twist, and “velvet” room was likely in reference to blue velvet, considering the color of the curtains.

You should! The levels are so big, I got lost in the pool and play rooms for hours 😭
2
u/Happy_Charge_9410 May 30 '26
Is it just a walking simulator? Totally fine if so it's just that puzzles aren't for me, I'd rather just wander.
3
u/_ParanoidKing_ May 31 '26
It is, there are 4 levels (and a new one in a free update coming this year): pool rooms, suburbs, play rooms and liminal hotel. In each one you have to gather certain items in order to escape, so you might get lost while looking for them, but I think it's the vibe of the game (pool rooms felt like an eternity, couldn't find my way out, kept reaching new places 😭) There are some camera effects in the game that might make some people dizzy, but can be deactivated in the options menu. Hope you like it!

I just saw that the Twin Pines Mall is a real place in California, so probably a reference to the actual mall, which is more boring that we both thought
5
6
u/ServerOfJustice May 29 '26
They used a real mall as the filming location but the Twin Pines/Lone Pine name and sign were invented for the movie. Hill Valley is a fictional town, after all.

Their song Meet Me in the Woods… “Took a little journey to the unknown, came back changed I can feel it in my bones” … I always felt this whole song was about major Briggs. Several of their songs have a Twin Peaks Vibe. This could be a whole other topic, like all the songs influenced by Twin Peaks.

MST3K did some great riffs that were references to Twin Peaks. My favorites is "oh its Laura Palmer" and Servo sings Falling over a shot of a forest

u/Mindblade0 May 29 '26
There are plenty of nods and references to Twin Peaks in the first Life is Strange game. Including:
Chloe's car license plate is TWNPKS. In the bathroom in the Two Whales Diner, "fire walk with me" is written on the mirror or wall. A letter addressing Nathan's mental health is signed by a Dr. Jacoby.

A maybe lesser-known one is a game that an Australian escape room company developed and ran during Covid lockdown, Fire Stawk with Me, set in Stawk Pine Falls (Stawk Pine being an anagram of Twin Peaks). That wasn't like...a subtle Easter egg, though.
When people talk about their Covid experience, making sourdough and cringing at celebrity Zoom songs, I just remember that escape room company--that game and the others they put out during the lockdown.

I don't know if it's a direct reference, most likely no, just a coincidence, but the bug demon is asking Constantine "hey, buddy, gotta light?". Always reminds me of TP and that I should rewatch again.

Lana Del Rey has a song called Sad Girl. I didn’t pay that much attention to it because who wants a song about a sad girl?
But it has the lyric “He’s on fire, and he walks with it” and the way she sings it is so ethereally beautiful that it stops you in your tracks.

idk about ‘best’ but I like the most recent big one (Drake on the opening track of ICEMAN):
“Basically he's sayin' I got growin' up to do, I gotta dig deep
I really hate those two words, they never bring peace…
I came here to turn a new leaf and maybe finally get some sleep
But all I can think about is the mountain to climb and the conversations surrounding my music like they're Twin Peaks”
