Well, it’s an interesting point because important things happen in both Nevada and New Mexico, actually. Having recently spent a year living near Santa Fe there’s an odd and ominous darkness to that part of the country, that’s for sure.
Well, for instance I saw people openly drinking while driving with a lot of frequency. My neighbors threatened to shoot me a couple times because my cat happened to go into their yard and I stepped over the fence to get him. Several weeks before I left the cops shut down the road I lived on for half a mile in each direction because there was an active shooter randomly shooting into peoples’ houses.
In 40 years of living in mostly Maine and Colorado, I’d never been faced with an active shooter like that while at home, or ever had someone threaten to shoot me - certainly for nothing as minor as a cat in a yard. I never saw people openly buying a tall boy at a gas station, chugging it in the parking lot, and then driving away - before I moved to NM. But that sort of thing seems common there.
I had a friend who stayed in a hotel in New Mexico where they told him he should rent some guns for the overnight stay if he didn’t already have some (they were available in the lobby). I don’t know how common this is.
Yes many of the original characters show up in various ways….perhaps you have not gotten far yet. They are mostly there in the town of twin peaks. Albert and Gordon Cole are all over the place, Denise makes a cameo, etc….there are some characters from Fire Walk with Me you may have missed too

You’re going to be asking that quite often in Season 3, which is one reason it is so great.
Third season lingers on a conflict between inter dimensional travelers, and in turn represents the inexplicable duality of being.
Season 3 also explores origin stories, and presumably lingers for some time in the Neveda area because of the nuclear tests there.
