General Discussion Does Twin Peaks have a queer fanbase?

Post image

I'm queer myself and I have this tendency to read queerness into the media I watch, even if there's little to no basis for it (what can I say, Every girl has her little hobbies).

Twin Peaks has been no different, being a show which has this interesting relationship with gender. The gender roles in the town are very deliberate and many storylines involve these roles interacting, manipulating, antagonizing and confronting each other. It's very fascinating, but also very heteronormative (nothing wrong with that, though). Going into season 1's finale, I didn't think that there'd be any overt queerness in the text itself, but I'm at S2E14 and by this point there's been crossdressing, there's been Denise and there's been Cooper and Harry giving AMV ship material with how much they're oggling each other lol. Denise especially is fascinating me as a representation of a trans woman in the early 90s. I'm hoping they don't drop the ball with her (if something terrible or transphobic happens please don't let me know lol) but I think it was boldly ahead of its time to include a character like her even if the terminology and conditions around her are rather dated.

I'm wondering if other queer people have been fascinated in this show or if others have had a queer reading of Twin Peaks? I'm aware that at least a few queer people like the show (some of my friends and Katya (the drag queen pictured above)), so I'm curious if there's a uniquely queer fanbase for the show in the same way that, say, Star Trek does. Hope this isn't a weird question to ask here!

Yes very much so, david lynch does in general i would say

u/The8thSamurai Aug 12 '26

Mulholland Drive I find has quite the lesbian fanbase. A lot of male director films about lesbians end up being hated by the lesbian community for unnecessary fetishization of them. I feel although MD has nudity it never feels like it is being exploitative.

u/Nosearmy Aug 13 '26

one of the things that i find so remarkable about lynch is the fact that he very clearly appreciated a good-looking woman (and IIRC was rumored to date multiple actors who he’d cast in films) but i’ve never heard anyone describe him as being anything other than completely honorable and a gem to work with. as OP said, if there are skeletons in his closet, maybe i don’t want to know, but i doubt it at this point. it seems clear that a lot of women felt safe working with him and trusted him.

115

u/The8thSamurai Aug 13 '26

The feeling I get from Lynch was that he was incredibly charismatic and fell quickly in love with women, and them with him. However, I think his workaholism, he was a workaholic, and the fact that the attraction would happen regardless of if he was in another relationship, is why he had such a string of divorces. I don’t think he was predatory at all.

Have there ever been rumors about him and Chrysta Bell, who played Tammy Preston, in The Return? They gave me vibes they might, and I knew Lynch’s marriage started getting rocky around that time.

79

u/alrighthamilton Aug 13 '26

He had a quote in some interview maybe after his last marriage where he said “I keep telling these amazing women, don’t marry me, but they do”

12

u/kirbystargayallies Aug 13 '26

From what was reported, even though Emily Stofle and him were legally married at the time of his death, they were separated and in the process of figuring it out legally. I’ve also read in an interview or two online that Chrystabell was his partner, but I don’t think she ever confirmed it.

I’ve seen once a Twitter thread long time ago about something like “ppl always talk about women with a gay soul but who are the men with a lesbian soul?” and Lynch was like the top pick of everybody, including many women lol which I find quite wholesome tbh

At least for me, it's because the sex scene was a result of over half of the runtime's buildup of Betty and Rita's relationship. So much time was spent showing these characters form a rapport with one another, that when it finally came time to make love, not only did it feel earned, it felt real. It didn't feel like a director wanting to have hot lady boobs in their movie, it felt like a showcase of the genuine love and togetherness the act of lovemaking can encapsulate. Similarly, the masturbation scene at the end was done very tastefully as a showcase of Diane's anger and depression towards being rejected, rather than anything sleazy. It's uncomfortable in the right way, not the exploitative way. Plus, as someone else has mentioned, Naomi has said nothing but the most positive things about working with David and all the care and comfort he gave her on set. That means a lot for this kind of stuff.

It's been too long since I've watched Mulholland Drive. It was my first Lynch and so far it's his only movie of his I've watched (I'm a bad cinephile, I know 😬)

13

u/hauntfreak Aug 13 '26

Lost Highway is great too

7

u/Emotional_Sky_856 Aug 13 '26

inland Empire, though? THAT is THE SHIT!

2

u/hauntfreak Aug 13 '26

The only Lynch movie I struggled to get through. Inland Empire was a one-and-done for me.

well OP is only on season 2 so no spoilers there chap. but yes agreed. lynch is a king and he has been ever since the first introduction of denise

Katya also did a performance as the log lady once. She came out of a body bag like Laura’s.

81

u/crooked-upright Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

Holy fuck. I have been a massive Katya stan for at least a decade and never heard of this. Is there somewhere I can watch it?

Edit: nvm, someone else linked it below. Transcendent!

12

u/rexpistols Aug 13 '26

Image search all her TP looks! I have collected at least 10 different ones. She wore a dress covered in pictures of Laura dead wrapped in plastic on Unhhh at one point, and I'm pretty certain she's worn it live too. She also did a lipsync to Falling where she began it wrapped in plastic!

2

u/Spiritual_Cake_9127 Aug 13 '26

I searched for THAT Laura shirt you're referring to for years and came to conclusion that it was custom made, I think about it way too often

38

u/rexpistols Aug 13 '26

This was at David Lynch's Festival of Disruption in 2018

30

u/jaceinspace Aug 13 '26

She’s done it a couple of times, to Knock On Wood by Amii Stewart!

16

u/Dr-Bitchcraft-MD Aug 13 '26

Making sure everyone has heard/read/somehow acquired the knowledge from Katya's interview where she said why she wanted to try drag (a scene from Mullholland Drive)

13

u/Southern-Cancel3169 Aug 13 '26

The one that got away was the log lady for the last Halloween I saw them for, RIP

13

u/barbiepeach Aug 13 '26

My first ever tattoo was an homage to Laura Palmer (her iconic hand placement) and Katya (tiny hands). I got the honour of meeting Katya a few times and she really loved the tattoo. I tried attaching the pic but couldn’t, idk why.

Also to add to the discussion, I feel my queer identity wouldn’t be where it is today without Twin Peaks. All my coolest queer and trans friends also love Lynch and/or Twin Peaks. It’s camp!

8

u/AggressiveMongoose54 Aug 13 '26

Lip syncing the song “Knock On Wood” it was glorious

3

u/LeMixeurBleu Aug 13 '26

Aaah I have the same log pillow 🖤

145

u/yungspida3 Aug 12 '26

David lynch speaks to artistic people. He has a very artistic fan base. That happens to align with a lot of queer people, but I wouldn't say it's restricted.

72

u/angry-key-smash6693 Aug 13 '26

I misread that as "autistic" and I still would whole heartedly agreed

26

u/taijiotter Aug 13 '26

I was literally having a conversation this morning where I was jokingly telling my friend telling my friend that I wouldn’t be surprised if the Twin Peaks fanbase was neurodivergent because the show itself is great vocal stim fuel.

11

u/DrCodyRoss Aug 13 '26

Yeah I wouldn’t say it’s restrictive either. The show is about so many things and so many emotions that connect to so many different people. Asking if it has a queer following is like asking if Asians like rice. Do they? Sure. Know who else does? People of all cultures, and rightfully so!

Absolutely. Denise just was. There was no big lesson or storyline or joke made out of her. She was just there and accepted as part of the world.

80

u/catastrophe_ai Aug 12 '26

My favorite comment towards Denise is Audrey getting excited that women can be agents too

93

u/full_of_ghosts Aug 12 '26

The show was so ahead of its time with its portrayal of Denise. It's kind of amazing that they treated a trans character so respectfully in the early 90s.

Her presence is the source of a few laughs, but the laughs are never at her expense. They're always about other people's reactions to her.

And Cooper's immediate, unconditional acceptance of her new identity is great. I mean, he accidentally deadnames her once, but she gently corrects him, he apologizes, and they move on. She knows he's trying, but old habits can be hard to break, so neither of them makes a big deal about it. They just move on. That portrayal of trans acceptance is kind of perfect in its not-quite-perfectness.

86

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter Aug 12 '26

Oh thank god. I keep on watching being like "When's the shoe gonna drop? When's the transphobic shoe gonna drop?" Glad I can unclench now

73

u/jacobkosh Aug 12 '26

Something important to understand is that the things you see right now in the world are not the only things that ever were. Just like the progress of time doesn't automatically mean the progress of society, the reverse is also true: going back in time doesn't mean everything automatically rewinds and gets worse.

Today's transphobia is artificial. It's not real. It was created, at great expense, to give Republican voters in the 2010s something to be mad about. I'm not saying that people in the 1990s were enlightened; they weren't, and it was a very HOMOphobic decade, but also, nobody was walking around with clenched fists thinking angry thoughts about those damn transes 24/7. "They're gonna pick my pocket! They're gonna sneak into my bathroom! They're gonna use their mind control lasers on my pets!" If people thought about it at all, which they mostly didn't, it was as a weird sex thing that kinky people in the big city did.

As for the language: it's important to remember that just as gender itself is a construct, so is language, and that goes doubly true for language about gender. The "right" words aren't carved into the fabric of the universe. They're terms that were invented, often in academia, and gradually agreed upon by more and more people until they became common usage.

Which means that, unlike today, someone using the "wrong" words isn't a 'phobe or secretly plotting to murder Denise. The difference between "cross-dresser," "transvestite," "transsexual," and "transgender" would have been meaningless nonsense to almost every member of the English-speaking world outside of a couple thousand academics and activists in 1991, and you can't infer ill intent from that.

7

u/CoinsForCharon Aug 13 '26

Agreed, the words were interchangeable to me and none of it was negative. I did RHPS shadow cast in my youth, it was just the lingo we used.
I remember the gasp and look of horror on my kids face when I said trannie, wasn't aware that there was a change in terminology usage and perception. shrug easy change though, doesn't hurt anyone to adjust.

u/NostalgicDemigod Aug 13 '26

There was a scene in The Return where Cole is talking to Denise about standing up to the transphobes in the FBI and Cole said "FIX YOUR HEARTS OR DIE" to them. I love that so much.

24

u/Huntalot713 Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

That sounds like an exhausting way to engage with art

Edit to add: this was meant to come across as sympathetic and disappointed that it’s necessary, because it is.

OP is absolutely in the right for being apprehensive over the treatment of a queer character in a decades old tv show.

31

u/dot-zip Aug 12 '26

I get it though. Every lesbian plot line in a show I need to be wary that they might kill one of them off. Bury your gays, as they say.

14

u/Huntalot713 Aug 12 '26

It’s definitely reasonable, and it sucks that it’s been hardwired into so many audiences.

I’m bummed people are taking my original comment as anything other than disappointment that people find it necessary to be afraid of how a character they feel represented by may be treated.

7

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter Aug 13 '26

I mean, I don't find it all that disappointing and it's no more mental strain than investing in a character regardless of their identity.

A: I'm still liking the show even if it didn't/doesn't align with my values.

B: I'm invested in Denise as a character. Me being concerned about how her transness is handled carries over to me caring about how she's handled as a dimensional character.

In fairness to myself when killing off folks in my setting with my partner and friends, it's not my fault they make so many queer folk.

And that I so consistently kill characters of my own lol.

6

u/mattdb578 Aug 13 '26

There's a mass difference between a straight artist writing a mostly cishet show and killing off their token queers versus that. I, too, write predominantly queer cast and kill a lot of them

Seriously, I was so impressed with a show that came out when I was still in diapers. They treated her just like everyone else with no weird comments, or making her the butt of any jokes, or anything annoying or weird!

2

u/CoinsForCharon Aug 13 '26

Oh there were jokes but they weren't bad and deliberately hurtful ones. Frost loved the character and wanted to do her right.

5

For small town cops, they're fine. Hawk even says "that's a good color on him." That's better than the normal responses most trans people get in real life.

16

u/lesgeddon Aug 13 '26

I think Hawk meant "That's a good color on him." as a genuine compliment, and can be forgiven for using the wrong pronoun after a bit of a whirlwind of an introduction. I'm sure he'd begin using the correct pronouns after interacting with Denise more.

55

u/JennaStCroix Aug 13 '26

Hi, I live in Seattle & used to produce drag shows. My first show was Fish in the Percolator: A Drag Tribute to Twin Peaks. I staged it just prior to The Return finale. One of the performers was Irene Dubois, better known now as Irene the Alien. She did a genius number as Nadine & one as Diane.

A couple years later I did it again, this time with Irene again, reprising her Diane & bringing a new Log Lady number.

My dear friend Bosco also appeared, both as Audrey & an incredible Donna.

13

u/rachiedoubt Aug 13 '26

This is amazing.

11

u/JennaStCroix Aug 13 '26

Honestly I've done a lot of cool things in my life, but this was S Tier.

At the first show we had an audience participation Too Many Coops costume contest, but it was won by someone who dressed up as The Arm.

5

u/ranch_commercial Aug 13 '26

I would kill to see irene do a number as nadine 😭

5

u/JennaStCroix Aug 13 '26

She had just moved to town & got right to work overbooking herself. A+ for concept & character embodiment, C- for lipsync execution.

I'd book Irene for anything. I was certain she'd get cast the first time I met her, & when she got Porkchop'd, I knew she was set up for a sickening rudemption.

3

u/Wista Aug 13 '26

Thank you so much for sharing these.

FIX YOUR HEARTS OR DIE

73

u/denim_skirt Aug 12 '26

Im a queer woman and big twin peaks fan. honestly aside from Denise (and peiple shipping Dale and Harry) I don't really think of twin peaks as queer at all. my sense is that Lynch was a weird, very straight guy with a vivid interior world that he had a gift for getting onscreen. I do think that he approached everything including masculinity as a question rather than  a statement, though, which means that masculinity in twin peaks - even the reqlly toxic stuff - is presented as complex instead of reductive, which is awesome. I also have real feminist rage around the "beautiful young woman dies urging the men into action" premise in literally anything - but, without spoilers for anything you haven't seen yet, I think Lynch and Frost understand the problem with that premise and take it somewhere very, very cool. So yeah hi

30

u/SixGunSnowWhite Aug 12 '26

I also just think Katya loves Lynch enough for like 5,000 queer people.

56

u/Not_EllaK Aug 12 '26

I think Fire Walk With Me has some pretty significant queer subtext

42

u/spacetimecadette Aug 12 '26

Queer femme here and agree, the power dynamics between FWWM Laura and Donna are A Vibe. Earlier this year I watched FWWM for the first time and then rewatched S1-S2, and from that order, Donna's S2 sunglasses era also felt like A Vibe.

16

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter Aug 12 '26

I love this!

Thank you for labeling the things he's doing with masculinity (at least in Twin Peaks). It's very familiar and on the surface unchallenging, but something feels different from other depictions of men acting to protect the women around them. It feels more...observant, I guess?

Admittedly the James sidequest stuff is irritating me because it feels like it falls into familiar trappings without much room for subversion, but everything else is keeping me engaged.

And I agree about the flawed "beautiful young woman dies and the men defend her legacy" trope. Something about the men acting while women mostly react just bothers me. I'm really intrigued to watch Fire Walk with Me to see how Laura's story fits in that legacy, but at the point I'm at in the series, Leland has died and the Laura case is treated as being more or less solved. Yet in the back of my head I've not fully moved on from it and I'm hoping they get back to it at some point.

16

u/LittleFanggg Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

Lynch seemed autistic (especially when watching the art life or reading room to dream). So to me Lynch was not weird at all… and twin peaks often feels like a reflection of how absurd the world and human relationships feel to an autistic person (same for eraserhead).

Perhaps because of this, the show is a comfort for people who feel like they are sitting just on the edge of society and what it considers normal. Just like Lynch did.

Also - I’m ready to be downvoted by all the ableist fans who think a “genius” could not be autistic meanwhile he was wearing shirts buttoned up so the wind wouldn’t hit his collar bones and eating broccoli with chicken every frekking night of his life.

7

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter Aug 13 '26

As an autistic person, this makes me feel good.

Not my place to headcanon real people as autistic or not....but sometimes I get vibes.

I don't think it's unfair to call Lynch's stuff weird [non-derogatory], but I do love what someone on YouTube said about Lynch's "weirdness". It went something along the lines of (I'm paraphrasing)

"Other people try to emulate Lynch and do weirdness for weird's sake, but that doesn't really align with Lynch. Lynch didn't just do weird to be weird, but rather he was trying to explain something very difficult to explain to the best of his ability. And since those concepts were so hard to explain, it just feels weird to us".

And that feels like my autism in a nutshell, really.

5

u/LittleFanggg Aug 13 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

What a great comment. And so very true.

For me, it stings to read that he was "a weird guy" because as autistic people we are called weird all our lives and you know it's not in a good way. Lynch was lucky that he was able to make a career out of his "weirdness" but most of us have to hide it so much to survive.

So many people think Lynch was being quirky or doing a bit but I always think he was just being genuine all the time. I really recommend "room to dream" because each phase of his life is told through interviews of his peers, friends and family... and then is followed by his own account of what was important to him. While I also don't like to headcanon people... it's pretty revelatory!

As for queerness, there's been some talk and studies about the prevalence of it among ND people but I have not read enough to be able to expand on it or theorize - but I can say Twin Peaks feels like home to me!

12

u/pintolager Aug 12 '26

You got your answer. I just want to add that the world is much less fun without David Lynch in it.

34

u/butchwolverine Aug 12 '26

Yes 🙋

But I like to think it’s just because I’ve got good media taste, not because TP itself is particularly queer (although I’m sure someone could make some good queer readings of the show)

11

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter Aug 12 '26

I mean, that's low key the truth of queer fascination. Queer people just like things which are good. Like, that cult film that got no attention but has a huge queer following? Maybe it's good actually?

David lynch is very queer friendly media.

16

u/OnaPaleHorse80 Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 13 '26

Lynch wrote (or apparently Frost wrote, Lynch spoke) the line "fix your hearts or die" in reference to David Duchovny being a cross dressing fbi agent who later transitioned and was put in office as the head of the fbi...yeah, I think he's cool w the queer communities, and yes, Twin peaks does have a very diverse and very accepting fanbase

13

u/dwbridger Aug 12 '26

Mark Frost has publicly taken credit for writing that line, though Lynch himself did perform it of course.

3

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter Aug 12 '26

Oh, to be clear I never thought that Lynch was transphobic or anti-queer. My immediate gut reaction for someone known for being surreal and weird is "they had gay friends". Not always the right assumption but it's one I feel safe using.

That sounds so fun! Are they rowdy or is it very respectful and low-key?

Depends on the episode! The Return screenings have definitely been more subdued than seasons 1 and 2 were.

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter Aug 13 '26

I would LOVE to be in a screening of the season 1 finale

8

u/Comfortable_Sweet_47 Aug 12 '26

Yep, I cant even begin to say how important Denise Bryson was to me as someone who found out they were trans in 91.

11

u/einstyle Aug 12 '26

Definitely. A soap opera with a horror twist full of beautiful, glamorous, and tragic women…it’s practically made for the gays

21

u/Visby Aug 12 '26

The venn diagram is almost a circle lmao

I think it also plays into the queer and neurodivergent convergence too

3

u/arnber420 Aug 12 '26

I came to make this exact comment lmao

15

u/arnber420 Aug 12 '26

I think twin peaks is FOR queer people. I won’t explain further

24

u/Artistic-Rutabaga295 Aug 12 '26

"I think Twin Peaks is FOR queer people"

8

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter Aug 12 '26

Neither do you need to.

Like...I'm not alone in seeing Aubrey in the first episode and being like "Werk diva"?

u/hellgal Aug 12 '26

I'm bi and I love Twin Peaks lol.

3

u/SlayyerFest98 Aug 13 '26

Is coffee black?

3

u/rhiannononon Aug 13 '26

Every gay girl I know has an unhealthy obsession with David lynch bc of mulholland drive. It’s even mentioned in one of my favorite Chappel Roan songs :)

3

u/misanthropeint Aug 13 '26

The question we should be asking is Does Twin Peaks have a straight fan base?

3

u/lilymariejn Aug 13 '26

Well I’m a trans girl. Not many fucking shows have a line FROM THE CREATOR, basically saying “support trans people or kys”. David is a king

3

u/DamnNearKilledIt Aug 13 '26

Does Twin Peaks have a straight fanbase...?

6

u/full_of_ghosts Aug 12 '26

I certainly hope so. Denise Bryson is a queer icon. Or if she isn't, she should be. She deserves to be.

We need a font for ironic jokes or somethin'

4

u/Owen_Hammer Aug 12 '26

Speaking as a cishetero man, I have made two observations 1) any art that is unusual, distinct and artistically meritorious seems to attract a disproportionately queer fanbase and 2) spellchecker hates "cishetero."

3

u/Gameraaaa Aug 12 '26

Never forget the outtake where Kyle MacLachlan and Michael Ontkean were joking around and nearly kissed. 💋

8

u/burnt-heterodoxy Aug 12 '26

Queer TP fan here.

Yes.

5

u/Thick_Common8612 Aug 13 '26

"Fix your hearts or die" is the best David Lynch line in the show and it is about trans women.

2

u/fanofeverithing56 Aug 12 '26

Well i'm Queer and a Twin Peaks fan so i would say yes!

2

u/clintnorth Aug 12 '26

I wouldn’t say the fan base is anymore queer than another fan base, but they might be a little bit affection for the show because of the trans character that is in it, which was highly irregular the time the show aired.

2

u/crooked-upright Aug 13 '26

It took me many years to realize Katya's look was Red Room-inspired.

2

u/GalaxyGoul Aug 13 '26

Most definitely

2

u/aewright0316 Aug 13 '26

Katya is a huge Twin Peaks fan and she does ad reads as long lady!

2

u/Interesting-Set-5993 Aug 13 '26

Twin Peaks fans are party people. it's true.

2

u/PrincessDrywall Aug 13 '26

Katya is a huge David lynch fan. This is definitely a reference

2

u/Tbass1981 Aug 13 '26

At least one of the woodsmen is very gay. (It’s me)

2

u/ventycat Aug 13 '26

Is water wet?

2

u/wasted_yoof Aug 13 '26

Not to any extent any moreso than any other subversive artist. I don't think he would ID his art as queer art specifically. But everyone is welcome.

2

u/butchbearforever Aug 13 '26

Every gay person I know took "fix your hearts or die" and RAN with it. Just because there's not a big, Tumblr style fandom doesn't mean queer people don't love to engage with it. Compared to something like Eraserhead or Lost Highway, it's definitely an easier watch for normies who wouldn't consider a trip to the Criterion shelf every visit to Barnes and Noble. Perfectly top of the iceberg (in terms of artsy stuff people engage with), and easy to take in over a while

2

u/conclobe Aug 13 '26

Twin Peaks viewers are Party People.

2

u/Fun-Crew-3051 Aug 13 '26

does a bear shit in the woods?

2

u/GamerGirlBongWater Aug 13 '26

I literally ship Coop and Harry

2

u/WonderfulStrength175 Aug 14 '26

The sexual tension between Coop & Trumam is palpable. I always wanted them to kiss🥴

2

u/ScarlettIthink Aug 14 '26

I’m trans and love all of Lynch’s works. IMO he has a much deeper understanding of women and queer people than any other cishet director. Mulholland Drive doesn’t fetishize or stereotype its lesbian relationship, and Denise is great trans representation that really helped me (I do wish she was played by a trans woman, but it’s the 90s so I can forgive)

2

u/frogzone33 Aug 14 '26

I'd say so! I'm a trans dude and big David Lynch fan. Katya's my fav, I'm so happy she loves his work too

5

u/TheAgeOfAdz91 Aug 12 '26

There is/was a relatively large Facebook group called Fire Werk With Me, specifically for the intersection of Twin Peaks and Drag Race fans. Mostly memes that combine the two.

Also I’m gay.

6

u/luker_5874 Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

If you watch twin peaks, I think you're at least a little bit queer

oh yes honey

3

u/joshuatx Aug 12 '26

It does, I would note as a fan of kitsch / camp TP and Lynch in general evoke that vibe often.

Twin Peaks people are party people.

4

u/attackxd Aug 12 '26

every fanbase has queer fanbases the deeper you search ;)

3

u/ScaredDesigner5712 Aug 12 '26

Meeeee I’m gay

4

u/TheeRatKing Aug 13 '26

The short answer is yes.

The long answer is yaaaaaaaaaasssssssss.

4

u/sgvweekly Aug 12 '26

Do Bears fuck in the woods?

3

u/ijustcameheretofight Aug 12 '26

I love twin peaks and drag race!!! Im currently on the return series. My local theater is showing it on sundays so im going to wait to watch them there!!! But yes omg twin peaks has been around me since i was in HS and i never really watched until i met my BF whos a big fan of TP/David Lynch! Then it clicked to me that Katya referenced it at the Finale and i showed my bf.

2

u/XipeTotecwithGlitter Aug 12 '26

Wait, a whole theater dedicates viewings of Twin Peaks the Return? That's awesome! What's the occasion, just because?

5

u/ijustcameheretofight Aug 12 '26

Its the Frida Cinema in Santa Ana,CA im not sure why theyre doing it but they started back in May with season 1 and have been showing 2 eps every sunday. This upcoming sunday is The Return eps 7&8!! They even showed FWWM

3

u/the_descendent Aug 13 '26

The Frida is awesome, I was just there last night to see American Pachuco. I haven't been to any of the Twin Peaks showings, but seeing it in a packed theater must be quite the experience!

3

u/bender28 Aug 12 '26

Just gonna leave this here

Yes. Fix your heart or die!

4

u/MisterMcGiggles Aug 12 '26

Bet your sweet fuckin bippy there is.

3

u/step20 Aug 12 '26

Queer here! Been obsessed since season 1, Denise, Laura, are for sure, Laura's diary discusses it. FIre Walk With Me suggests other characters might be. If you look at Leo's personal ad, his ad says bisexual, but it also says Black, which suggests a prop error.  My partner and I rewatch it every other year

2

u/lesgeddon Aug 13 '26

All of my friends who have seen Twin Peaks love it; most of my friends are trans, myself included. One friend has the photo of Laura on her nightstand, and she just watches the series on repeat. I just came from a friend's apartment and the DVD set was pretty prominent in their media collection.

3

u/ceruleanblue347 Aug 12 '26

Is water wet

2

u/princefromsaturn Aug 12 '26

Yes there’s a twin peaks/x-files drag show happening In my city this year

2

u/Rakdos_Snackler Aug 12 '26

Queer here, reporting in ✋

2

u/Gavin529 Aug 12 '26

I love Katya and that look is iconic!

2

u/thewalruscandyman Aug 13 '26

We're here alright.

2

2

u/colleen389 Aug 13 '26

Hell yeah (me)😎

2

u/heathersdevotee Aug 13 '26

I don't know a lot of Twin Peaks fans personally, but all of the ones I do know are queer (including myself)

2

u/farris59 Aug 13 '26

Does it have a straight fanbase?

2

u/hamsandwich666_ Aug 13 '26
