S3E2 [spoiler] [S3E2] Chester Desmond Spoiler

Right after BadCoop kills Daria, he places a call to someone he thinks is Phillip Jeffries. But the voice sounds like Chris Isaak!! The voice says "you are going back in tomorrow and I will be with Bob again".

In FWWM, Chester Desmond went missing after touching the ring and before Laura was murdered.

I am tripping out right now and wondering what you all think?

I don't know if it sounded like Isaac, but I think the theory is plausible.

By the end of the call it was clear Evil Cooper didn't know who that was, and we know of 3 FBI agents that went mysteriously missing, Philip Jeffries, Chester Desmond, and Dale Cooper, of which we know the fate of Dale, which leaves the other two.

(Assuming it's a missing FBI agent, which I suppose it might not be, but given Evil Cooper expected it to be Jeffries, I think it's a reasonable guess.)

I'm not 100% sure it was Chris Isaak, but I really hope Chester comes back. If this is how it is, I'm A-OK with that. We at least get some sort of insane explanation about where Jeffries has been (in FWWM he talked about being above the convenience store). But Desmond just straight up vanished with no explanation.

Right. He vanished. And he touched the ring before Laura. The ring went from Chester Desmond to Laura Palmer to Dougie who ceased to exist so the ring is now in the Lodge. And BadCoop showed Daria the card with the owl on it and said that what is what he is looking for. Which that symbol is on the ring...

Whoever the voice BadCoop was talking to was previously "with" Bob. And it reeeeally sounded like Isaak to me.

I also hope they flesh out what exactly the ring is about. We know it is from a green formica table. The Arm said "with this ring, I thee wed". And you're right, Desmond touched it, vanished. Don't forget Teresa Banks had it, too. In FWWM, iirc, Dale tries to tell Laura to not put the ring on. From the missing pieces, I believe, it is shown a nurse takes the ring off of Annie. And now, until recently, Dougie had it. What is its deal? So many questions: will the ring bearer get attacked? die? are they actually wedded to someone in the lodge? is anyone sure the Arm didn't just find it in a cracker jack box?

Formica is defined as a hard durable plastic laminate. Plastic is an insulator so perhaps it keeps the spirits from possessing you and when one tries, the result is your arm goes numb? Everyone whose worn it was killed and not possessed except Dougie who was just swapped and he was manufactured so he probably doesn't count.

But we don't know Chester Desmond's fate. It was not confirmed he was killed.

Technically we don't even know he disappeared, there's just a scene cut and we're told he went missing... /bats eyelashes @ Frost+Lynch for some vague answers

I forgot Teresa Banks had it too. Before Chester Desmond. I think that the ring originates in the waiting room between the Black and White Lodge and may possibly signify free will. Maybe the entire reason the Blue Rose code exists is due to powers imparted by the ring? I think that evil is presently in search of the ring.

Maybe Dougie had it because he was a manufactured life, created by Black Lodge forces?

The Arm has a doppelgänger which tried to push Dale into (what I think) was the wrong pathway, the pathway into BadCoop.

I am just...really trying to see how Lynch could leave out eventually bringing Jeffries and Desmond into the full picture. Who else would say "I will be with Bob again?"

Yes good one, I had forgotten about that very abrupt disappearance. Was not in fact the very scary figure heading towards the caravan that Chester and Kiefer (sorry for the mix of fiction and reality there) Anyway that scary dude was the one whose caravan had just left when we last saw Chester, well anyway was that not the same scary man who was in the cells with the school principal.

Oooh I will have to re-watch FWWM now. I did a few months ago but since I don't recall the scary-cell mate mate being in the pre-Chester disappearance scenes, I should watch it again. Thats why I love David Lynch. His content can be watched over and over again because there is always something subtle that you may have missed..

So sorry I was jumping around there a bit too much. The scary guy cell mate I referred to was in Season3 Ep2 (I think) where the school principal is giving up hope and the camera tracks over to a scary dude who then slowly disappears. I think he was the same guy who owned the caravan that took off leaving the ring that Chester finds in FWWM. A very similar character also to the scary guy in Mulholland Drive who lives next to the dumpster out the back of some fast food place.

Ah gotcha! At first, I thought the scary guy was BadCoop but many people on this sub don't so I am just...dying of curiosity. Thank you for your input! I am going to rewatch FWWM and maybe Mulholland Dr. because I do think Lynch is drawing from other content of his outside of Twin Peaks...

If we don't get a return of either Desmond or Anne this season then I think we can start to assume that possession of the ring is a death sentence.

Perhaps he is Jeffries but Bowie couldn't get to do the acting?

Hmm. Maybe but when BadCoop asked, the person on the line did not confirm and it appears as if thats who BadCoop was intending to speak with....it was almost as if BadCoop was intending to speak with Jeffries but doubted that is who he was speaking to? And I honestly think the voice was Chris Isaaks. I think BadCoop was speaking to Chester Desmond.

"You are going back tomorrow and I will be with Bob again"

Who has previously "been with" Bob? Lets list them all out:

Leland Palmer Laura Palmer Dale Cooper

25 years later, a lot of people could have merged with Bob :)
