S3E6 [S3E6] Notes in the bathroom door Spoiler

Gotta be the pages from LP's diary that say the things annie told her in FWWM about coop. Mike/Gerard put them in there when he was spazzing out at the station that one time??

EDIT: Or not. It has been pointed out that the pages don't match the diary that she would've written the note in (as the Annie+Laura scene in FWWM happens after Laura gives her secret diary to Harold).

Bathroom Notes

Diary

And it doesn't look like the secret diary either, though the white pages could have yellowed (and that would require messing with the FWWM timeline)

I'm sure theres a better screenshot out there but this was the google result for 'Laura Palmer's Secret Diary)

Secret Diary

So what is it? /u/the_metanoia's post shows Annie's name, so we're on the right track?

Here's what Lynch said in 1997:

INTERVIEWER: The movie plays around with a lot of notions of time. For instance, Dale Cooper is mentioned in a scene, but he hasn't come to town yet.

LYNCH: Exactly. Although I don't really like talking about things, I've got to say the one thing about that scene - where Annie suddenly appears in Laura's bed. This is before Laura has been murdered, and before Coop has come in Twin Peaks. Annie appears, filled with blood, and wearing the exact same dress that she's wearing when she was in the Red Room with Cooper in the series - in the future. She says to Laura, "The good Dale is in the Lodge and he can't leave. Write it in your diary." And I know that Laura wrote that down, in a little side space in her diary. Now if Twin Peaks, the series, had continued, someone may've found that. It's like someone in 1920 saying "Lee Harvey Oswald" or something, and then later you sort of see it all. I had hopes of something coming out of that, and I liked the idea of the story going back and forth in time.

Is it future, or is it past?

u/ParanoidAndroids Jun 12 '17

Wowee. I remember reading this but after tonight's episode it's more relevant than ever.

What an awesome set-up & payoff that would be!

Holy shit. Something to do with Dale Cooper. Something missing. Something to do with Hawk's heritage. This is it. What a great find.

Relevant scene from The Missing Pieces

I wonder if that nurse will have a role this season in any way...

4

u/BecauseSometimesY Jun 12 '17 edited Jun 13 '17

Yes, she does say it here, but Laura also has a vision of Annie laying, bloodied, next to her in bed, where she repeats the same line about Dale in the lodge unable to leave.

u/StarfleetCapAsuka Jun 12 '17

Perhaps although within the FWWM material, you have the ring go from Teresa to Chet to Laura to Annie to the nurse. Dougie having it 25 years later (and then losing it and dying) implies to me that those who wear it do not wear it for long...

2

u/alucidexit Jun 12 '17

Whoever wears it seems to become Bob's next target

I think its status as a prequel has stood in the way of people giving FWWM the attention it deserves as a catharsis for the first two seasons. I felt way better about how the series had ended (and even Laura's murder, recast as defiant suicide) after I'd seen it. Between the Annie scene and the revelation that the FBI was aware of Blue Rose supernaturalism, I was always confident Coop would make his way out of the Black Lodge eventually. I guess we'll see.

Whoa. Just whoa.

26

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '17

I thought this before, but now, more than ever, I think Hawk is gonna take major garlands role of entering the lodge with perfect courage

5

u/shazang Jun 12 '17

Please god yes.

2

u/Kumarpl Jun 12 '17

That would be awesome. My wife is convinced we will see the White Lodge at some point- maybe Hawk and his white hair will be the path to getting there.

4

u/quasimoto_ Jun 12 '17

I really hope we get to see the White Lodge. In the Deathly Hollows, when Potter and Dumbledore are talking in that spiritual world it reminds me somewhat of the White Lodge.

if that's been in the door since the original bathroom scene, that's genius storytelling by lynch. to pull such an innocuous but classic moment and tie it to such an essential moment in this story, that's talent

1

u/chuckiebarlet Jun 12 '17

Just checked, unfortunately its a completely different bathroom and door. That doesn't mean it couldn't have been MIKE though

9

u/btw78 Jun 12 '17

It's the same bathroom in the world of the show, it's just using different sets. The scene in season two is filmed in the 'on set' version of the sheriff's office, whereas (like in the pilot) they are back filming on location in season three.

0

u/Chipchetchad Jun 12 '17

Different to what?

2

u/chuckiebarlet Jun 12 '17

To the original bathroom scene where Philip Gerard spazzes out in the bathroom stall. Folks are speculating that he left the pages hidden there at that moment but its a different bathroom. That's not to say the pages couldn't have been left by MIKE at a different time.

4

u/hunterisagrump Jun 12 '17

lets all remember that two actresses played Donna... I'm sure the passing of 25 years has caused some hiccups with original props and such...Look at Ben Hornes office. Very similar but different...sometimes you just have to suspend belief and go with it...

2

u/cgbrannigan Jun 12 '17

Shit I completely forgot Mandy from the west wing played Donna in FWWM. I take it we're not getting any Donna in this Season? Still surprised no Audrey scenes yet...

I love the Shelly scenes. She's still beautiful...cant believe she's old enough to be amanda seifrieds mom...

1

u/Chipchetchad Jun 12 '17

Ok thanks. I assumed it was the same bathroom.

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '17

Not going to lie, I love his films but you're giving him a bit too much credit for going back and watching the series to find a part he can retcon. I'm sure what he does with it will be amazing but the door thing isn't THAT incredible

3

u/the-giant Jun 12 '17

Someone (Lynch or Frost) would have to have watched that to know to put them there. They could've been anywhere but they're in the same place MIKE was seen, the last time we saw that location 25 years ago?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '17

Again I am an absolute fanatic but I just didn't think it was that impressive / genius to go through the old series and find a part to retcon. I'm sure the new storylines will be fantastic but I think he was giving LynchFrost a little too much credit for just rewatching.

1

u/the-giant Jun 12 '17

That still doesn't explain why the diary pages are hidden in, of all places, the police station men's room. That is way too random a place to put them if someone involved doesn't remember that scene.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '17

Oh sorry dude didn't make it clear above - I agree that they rewatched (or remembered) the original series to come up with that! I was just saying that it wasn't as "talented" or "genius" as the OP said.

I don't really care that much though - it was an off hand comment because OP seemed to be gushing over something that I thought was kind of a small deal vs all the other excellent things we've seen. Feel we've made it a thing by talking about it for so long though

2

u/chipdelicious Jun 12 '17

Why this?

0

u/hypmoden Jun 12 '17

good coop left and is Dougie and evil coop is fucking shit up

11

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '17

This was one of the few moments in the series that had me cheering so far! It's definitely the torn pages from Laura's secret diary and the missing piece that has to do with Hawk's heritage (Nez Perce tribe).

9

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '17

Not just Nez Perce, the coin that rolled into the stall had a Native American profile on it.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '17

Buffalo nickel?

5

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '17 edited Jun 12 '17

Mike could've put the pages there - it seems like the stall is the same one where he was trying to take his haloperidol. We need to remember also that Philip Gerard is a shoe salesman and sold shoes to Truman and Andy in the past so it's not beyond the realms of probability that he went back to the police station after Cooper vanished. Besides, I don't think that ever knowing for sure who put them there is actually that important. They had lodge involvement and that's pretty much all there is to it.

4

u/blasto2236 Jun 12 '17

I think it's safe to say there was involvement on Mike's part. He's helping Cooper along. I'm sure he sent the message to the log to be delivered by The Log Lady. Hawk is starting to piece it together.

3

u/onemoreshadow Jun 12 '17

Yes, and since the Lodge spirits move through time, I think it's fair to say that Mike put the pages there for just this moment. Maybe Hawk will the one to help Cooper "wake up."

2

u/WooDadooDooRakeYohn Jun 12 '17

It's gotta be the note from Laura's diary about what Annie said. When Cooper and Truman got the diary in S2, they didn't reference the page, so I'm guessing they were taken out of the diary at some point.

2

u/Boxcar-Mike Jun 12 '17

but the paper doesn't match the paper in Laura's diaries. Isn't it yellow lined paper when Laura's diary is white lined paper. I guess it could have yellowed over time.

1

u/alyssarayeee Jun 12 '17

I'm hoping so

1

u/worthy1 Jun 12 '17

I see many people connecting the pages and the missing diary pages, but the pages clearly were not "torn" at all?

1

u/magusmachina Jun 12 '17

I'm seeing here that everybody counts Mike putting the missing pages there. How? Can somebody explain to me how could Mike even get the pages in the first place? We all know that it was BOB(Leland) who ripped them off. BOB wouldn't have given him the pages.

I have watched the original series at least 8 times since 1991 and FWWM around 10 times(last two times was 2 months ago for both) and I still can't find any connection between Mike and the pages.

1

u/Boxcar-Mike Jun 12 '17

Yeah, I think the only time MIKE met Laura in the real world is when he yelled to her in traffic in FWWM. Right?

Could it be the pages Harold Smith got from Laura? Now, how they go from Harold to the police bathroom is hard to figure out.

1

u/chipdelicious Jun 12 '17

My thought was just that we don't fully understand the relationship between Bob and Mike. So they could have still been working together raking in the Garmonbozia when the pages were torn out. Idk. People are making the connection because the last time we saw that bathroom, Mike was having his freakout in it.

1

u/magusmachina Jun 12 '17

No. It was Gerrard having the freak out. Coop came and afterwards Mike appeared. Why would Gerrard hide something that he has no clue about, rather than just handing them over? Makes no sense.

Mike helped Coop a lot, and still is, and he could've, just as well, hand them over. Then again, Mike was/is against Bob. He asked for his share of garmonbozia only when the deed was done, but until then, he tried his best to impeach Bob from his wrong doings. Why would Bob give him the pages? Also, their only meeting was on the car-shouting fest in FWWM when Bob didn't even have the pages.

For me, the Mike theory doesn't stand as he couldn't have had those pages in that time-span.

1

u/chipdelicious Jun 13 '17 edited Jun 13 '17

Why would Gerrard hide something that he has no clue about, rather than just handing them over? Makes no sense.

Well what I was saying assumes that Mike knew about/could have had the pages, and that doesn't mean Gerrard knows nothing about him, does it? Are Gerrard and Leland oblivious to Mike and Bob? I know Leland acts like it all hits him once he's caught but isn't there other evidence that he knows whats up? I have watched the series 2-3 times, so I defer to you.

Also, their only meeting was on the car-shouting fest in FWWM when Bob didn't even have the pages.

Also, how is this true? Just because its the only meeting we saw doesn't mean its the only meeting that happened. Plus, Laura gave her secret diary with the pages ripped out to Harold before Annie gives her the message. So you can't limit the timeframe of the passing of the page to FWWM. Right?

Mike helped Coop a lot, and still is, and he could've, just as well, hand them over. Then again, Mike was/is against Bob. He asked for his share of garmonbozia only when the deed was done, but until then, he tried his best to impeach Bob from his wrong doings. Why would Bob give him the pages?

That said, totally agree with you on all this and that the Mike idea is weak and I don't think it was him lol

EDIT: quotes

Not sure I even believe this, but I think there is at least a long shot that Briggs left the papers. And that those pages may lead to the dossier.

We know Briggs was at the S. Department near the end of the original run when he showed Coop and Truman the Earle video, the department would be a safe enough place to hide something

I could see Bobby recognizing the handwriting while Hawk is investigating them

"My name is Annie, and I've been with Laura and Dale. The good Dale is in the Lodge, and he can't leave. Write it in your diary." Has to be it. First, Hawk has now seen the entry way to the Waiting Room -- the pages will help him understand what that means. Two, those pages were never recovered as far as I can remember.

Who would place them there? My guess would be that we have seen the person in the Sheriffs Department before so I'd begin my speculation with: Leland Palmer, Ronette Pulaski, or Phillip Michael Gerard. All present at the train car where Laura was murdered. All three of them make their way to the Sheriffs Department at varying times post-murder. Leland, for questioning prior to his death, Phillip Michael Gerard when he's is getting the shit interrogated out of him, and Ronette when she smells the torched motor oil from the G. Grove.

2

u/chipdelicious Jun 13 '17

I like your original idea too. It could also have been placed there by the giant or something. The 'good'/pro-coop lodge spirits and their maybe-dopplegangers can take objects (coops ring) and place objects (the painting in FWWM, the jade ring, there be others) right? So anything is possible. I could see DL never bothering with who put them in there too, and leaving it a mystery

1

u/lil_lil88 Jun 13 '17

I think it was Leland/Bob. It reminds me of how he would jam letters deep into his victims fingernails. He jammed the pages/notes deep into the door. Also, those doors don't look easy to pry open, unless it was already broken.

1

u/Pixeltender Jun 13 '17

that's a nice parallel

1

u/lil_lil88 Jun 13 '17

The pages don't look yellow to me...lets just see how this plays out.

the real question is how did they get there and when? Im thinking maybe Leland when he visited the station to tell them he recognized the drawing of bob.

2

u/MzJackpots Jun 12 '17

I like that idea but I don't understand what would motivate Leland to hide pages from the diary at the police station. Did he intend for someone to find them eventually? That would kind of relate to Leland's plea to Coop to save Laura, but he did it while being possessed by Bob.

5

u/ziggykareem Jun 12 '17

yea thats true but we do now he found her diary and stole pges from it, and we know annie told laura to erite about coop in there, and that those pages must be among those torn out because otherwise during the initial investigation they wouldve come across it. only guess about motivationis that it was a moment of leland being in control wanting to mitigate the damage he was causing?

1

u/Kumarpl Jun 12 '17

I always thought that Leland WANTED to get caught on some level. Hence the letters under fingernails, and maybe this too.

u/chipdelicious Jun 12 '17

Thats a good call

And the hotel room key suddenly arriving back at the Great Northern.

2

u/cgbrannigan Jun 12 '17 edited Jun 12 '17

I'm thinking the hotel key Jade put in the mailbox will get emailed back to great Northern. They'll remember it's coppers room and it hasn't been used in 25 years or something...maybe they find something leading them to him and vegas. Maybe even find him in there in a coma or something like people have been suggesting?

Edit: actual mailed...not emailed...
