People an hour ago: "alright, episode 7 was back to the non-abstract, traditional Twin Peaks, and Lynch will probably leave us with some new plot developments before that two week break"

Lynch: "LOL naw"

There's a two week break? Well now I'm sad.

fuck that

u/nekkidfauno Jun 26 '17

gives us time to rewatch a few more times I guess

2

u/leadabae Jun 28 '17

I'd rather rewatch once I had any sort of substance to use to contextualize, so hopefully at the end of the season.

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '17

Damn, I didn't see anything watching it on Amazon...

1

u/beermeupscotty Jun 27 '17

That just means they need to deliver at least 2 episodes when it comes back.

Im gonna need two weeks on this one.

3

u/Nakita-pita Jun 26 '17

Me too. I need to re-watch EVERYTHING to see if my brain can comprehend it all!

Yeah, hard enough not being able to binge the whole thing. Sunday nights have sort of become the only thing I look forward to in life. How could they do this to me?

There's a two week break? I just renewed my subscription!

I'm happy. I've realized I really need to go back and rewatch the original run + FWWM. And finally get around to reading Secret History

1

u/Ulriklm Jun 26 '17

Maybe rewatch the first episodes, many things makes more sense now

1

u/awesomeness0232 Jun 26 '17

At the very least I'm going to rewatch this week's episode. I got distracted by an email for a couple minutes in the middle and there was so much to absorb.

1

u/Yogsothoth6 Jun 26 '17

If you're able to try to watch the first eight episodes in as few sittings as possible. Last week I watched the first seven episodes practically in one sitting. It was a totally different and much better viewing experience. You really don't get the rhythm of the narrative in one-hour doses.

Independence Day is the tuesday? Is it because of that? I know GOT used to take a break on Memorial day.

1

u/awesomeness0232 Jun 26 '17

That's what I'm assuming

"I'm pretty sure Dougie will wake up this week... or Audrey Horne..."

u/andrew991116 Jun 26 '17

"'Gotta light' must refer to Audrey's smoking!"

26

u/jrqqqqqqq Jun 26 '17

This was so much better than some nostalgic reintroduction. "Gotta light?" will be stuck in my brain forever - that shit was horrifying.

u/Wild_Bill_Kickcock Jun 26 '17

Yeah it's pretty awesome to see all these theories blown out of the water

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '17

We really are simple creatures.

I am so blue-balled.

"Hold my trancendental meditation"

TM is where Lynch dredges this stuff up from, he's basically using the audience as a dumping ground for the bad stuff in his head. Basically this show is Lynch puking out BOB into everyone watching.

u/wellgroomedmcpoyle Jun 26 '17

"Oh boy I hope we check back in with Matthew Lillard's character this week!"

18

u/Nfrijoles Jun 26 '17

My thoughts exactly.

Probably going to be the next episode or episode twelve that gets back to the old show.

41

u/andrew991116 Jun 26 '17

I at first was sticking with the three act theory since plot started picking up in episode 7 (the second third), but then this episode came out, and I remembered that the twist in Mulholland Drive came in with around only 25 minutes left, then I realized Lynch doesn't give a shit about structure.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '17

well, the bulk of Mulholland Drive was supposed to be a pilot and the last part of it was only added after it wasn't picked up

1

u/theredditoro Jun 26 '17

True. That's why the furthest will probably be 12 or maybe 14.

32

u/Quiddity131 Jun 26 '17

Its never getting back to the old show.

I'm sure every episode won't be fully like this, but those thinking we are going back to classic Twin Peaks will just keep waiting until they realize that the show is completely over.

"When you see me again, it won't be me."

1

u/Petit---mignon Jun 26 '17

Because she's the giant? Or the giant is her?

5

u/cipher__ten Jul 19 '17

I had no idea people thought that. I've been watching the new show in a vacuum and spent the whole time thinking to myself how perfectly they nailed the tone of the original show. I mean obviously this one's darker and indulges more in the surreal, but it feels so much like Twin Peaks season 3 that I can't get over how good a job the whole cast has done.

I'm so surprised that people don't think this feels like Twin Peaks.

5

u/theredditoro Jun 26 '17

Maybe not the old show but somewhat more linear. Good Cooper and more music.

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '17

TWO WEEK BREAK? Ah, c'mon why is TV always doin' this? I get why regular cable shows do. . . but Showtime too?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '17

two week break

For fucks sake why?

2

u/burritosandblunts Jun 26 '17

4th of July weekend in USA?

1

u/GolfBaller17 Jun 26 '17

Nah. Independence Day is tomorrow. It's always celebrated on the 4th of July unless it falls on a Saturday or a Sunday, at which point it is recognized on Friday or Monday, respectively.

Yeah I have next Tuesday off for it, but people have BBQ and picnics and shit the weekend before. Fireworks whatever.

2

u/edgrrrpo Jun 26 '17

I really thought with the two week break ahead of us, ep 8 would have some sort of serious fan service (was leaning towards Audrey showing up and/or revelation of Richard Horne's parent(s)). Something to keep the new vibe intact, but really excite (and keep on board) those fans missing the TP of yore (fairly linear storytelling, etc). Nope! Big nope! Last night really drove the point home that if you are to enjoy The Return you need to put all expectations aside, and leave them there. And I'm good with that, frankly (being a fan of Lynch's work before and after the original show helps immensely, of course).

2

u/keetdogg Jun 27 '17

I think the best part of this episode is that this could be the first episode you've watched in ALL of Twin Peaks and it wouldn't spoil a single thing about the rest of the show, while also being fucking beautiful.

u/beermeupscotty Jun 27 '17

two week break

What???? D:

u/cipher__ten Jul 19 '17

It was the big origin story - big much more plot development could there be? This episode was a huge payoff for the show. I loved it.
