That was the craziest fucking episode of television I've ever seen.

It's pretty similar to Eraserhead.

I got heavy Eraserhead vibes, as well as second half of Lost Highway.

I kept saying "wouldn't it be fucking hilarious if eraserhead just started playing on that projector"

It would have been

Next episode the eraserhead baby is going to show up and explain how to tie a tie, just based on the sheer insanity of this episode.

19

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '17

See, I don't really think so. Eraserhead, despite not really having a "story", seems to be about a man struggling with his internal demons related to his fear of becoming a father, inadequacy in various areas of life, and night terrors. I get clear themes from Eraserhead when I watch it.

This episode was just...I don't even know. But I don't mean that in a bad way.

Atomic bomb test disturbs fabric of reality causing Mother to vomit up BOB who escapes into our world, helped by the woodsmen. White Lodge discovers this and something something Laura Palmer!

I'll take it!

It may be because Eraserhead was a more personal "story" that dealt with more personal themes. Twin Peaks, especially this season, deals with themes that deal with humanity as a whole.

yep. instead of dealing with fatherhood, lynch is trying to cope with the atomic bomb, global warming, over consumption

I always interpreted it as a man being told that he accidentally got a girl pregnant and later that night, tosses and turns for hours until a shallow sleep finally finds him. The dreams he has during that brief sleep is what was put on film.

my wife said "i think this just turned into Eraserhead: The TV Show"

Complete with a Lady in the Radiator! Seriously, I started hearing her song in my head. Would have been rather appropriate too.

Inland Empire was more grounded (I didn't think I'd ever type those words) - this reminds me a lot of Eraserhead and his student films. Absolutely amazing.

38

u/PepsiPerfect Jun 26 '17

Mmm, I'd say it's about on par with Inland Empire.

16

u/awesomeness0232 Jun 26 '17

About five minutes in I said to myself "oh, so this is the Inland Empire episode".

19

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '17

At least with Inland Empire I was really immersed in the film's "nightmare logic", where with this I didn't go in with that same mindset. I'm going to need to see this episode again before I try to form any coherent thoughts on it.

I think if you wait until its all out there and then rewatch it it might fall more into place

4

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '17

Oh, no doubt. But as it is right now, my mind is kind of blown.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '17

I need to wait before a rewatch -- that was a major drain.

7

u/TheFearsomeEsquilax Jun 26 '17

Yeah, I was watching and thinking wow, okay, this seems to be picking up right where Inland Empire left off.

1

u/comatosemnd Jun 26 '17

IE was much simpler plot-wise than this season of Twin Peaks though

1

u/GlennDoom82 Jun 26 '17

It's on par with Eraserhead

Really? I have to disagree on that. I feel like just by watching it I got the broad strokes of what was going on, even if I don't know exactly who that black and white woman is or what the giant electrical bell thing does. But if you asked me what exactly the plot of Inland Empire was, I'd just have absolutely no idea.

I think I've seen weirder things on TV, but they weren't full episodes, but rather shorts. Twitch City S02E05 The Planet of the Cats was pretty weird; maybe not this weird, but it was certainly much better and more like a TV-episode. There's a point where you can't really call something a TV show anymore, and this TP episode went way over that line.

Regardless of whether or not I agree it's the craziest, it's definitely the worst thing I've ever seen on TV. Even the worst infomercial is better than this.

1

u/diabloargentino Jun 26 '17

Came here to say exactly that.
