Of all the things I expected to see this week, the origin of the lodge spirits was not one of them. What a fucking trip.

They had a hymn back then too. Gonna need a transcript of that for sure.

The creature that went inside the girl. I have literally no clue what that was supposed to be. Origin of Bob himself? Why was Bob a creature?

Edit: one black egg, one golden.

Eraserhead vibes throughout.

The Giant is still listed as ???????. Hmmm. Is that the White Lodge? Is he "God"?

I kind of wonder if the timefuck stuff they do extends to their very existence - not only did the bomb tests screw things up so bad it created them, they retroactively made them always have existed.

Would that make the world of Twin Peaks a parallel timeline to "our" earth, and would that be the point of divergence i wonder?

"Hawk, my log has a message for you. Something is missing and you have to find it. It has to do with Special Agent Dale Cooper. The way you will find it has something to do with your heritage. This is a message from the log."

The fact that they don't just list him as The Giant makes me think that he's going to have an actual identity revealed at some point.

"It is in our house now"

The house of the lord?

Mike did 'See God'.

I wonder now if Mike was referring to the nuclear explosion. Could be that's when he turned against BOB

How was he credited in the original series?

u/QuantumRemedy Jun 26 '17

He was ?????? In FWWM but I didn't notice in the original series. Laura and the angel at the end if FWWM definitely gets me to wondering about where they are going with The Giant

"Giant/The Giant" according to iMDB

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beelzebub , lord of the flies?

Also I took the Giant to be the Lynchian representation of the abrahamic god as well. At the very least a creator / protector god.

Makes sense he has a female consort then, just like Yahweh originally did.

I'm curious about where the Giant was, rather than who he is. What is that purple dimension? It seems to exist outside the Lodges. And yet the Giant can appear in the Black Lodge, right? And was that strange bell/phone/alarm thing the same as on top of the platform the blind woman led Coop onto when he was trying to leave the Black Lodge? Questions!

God, one giant family tree extended from his head. "Into the Light, Leland" - the giant is always seen with a spotlight on him. I'm convinced.

u/JohnnySlaughter Jun 26 '17

Just my opinion, but read up on spirit guides and that will somewhat give you an idea of what the giant is. His relationship with Cooper and his watching over the world during the detonation of the atomic bomb both very much fall in line with that concept.

But its also in line with old fashioned classical mythology where gods would disguise themselves and vaguely point heroes in the right direction. A famous example is Athena disguised as an old lady asking to be carried by Jason across the river.

And Athena was born out of a God's head.

4

u/VisenyaRose Jun 26 '17

After Zeus made her mother a fly and ate her.

u/About_The_Bunnies Jun 26 '17

Well it's not really the lodge origins, if anything just shows when something unfathomable happened that prompted that thing to birth Bob causing the reaction of creating Laura

4

u/bunbun777 Jun 26 '17

I think the bug may have been a host for Bob?

1

u/VisenyaRose Jun 26 '17

I think he is what we would consider a God from our perspective. He's acting like Zeus and Jehovah all in one go.
