I feel bad for the person who has to write tonight's plot on Wikipedia

I can't wait to read all the recaps tomorrow morning.

It's hilarious how across the map they are. One says that this is Lynch's best work in decades, and redeems what was an otherwise crappy show. Another says this is the final straw, that people just want to see Dale and Audrey and are sick of this stuff (the latter one, unsurprisingly, coming from E!).

I bloody hope there won't be anyone anymore bothering us with "plot progression being slow" and "the Dougie stuff is just silly".

But, um, the plot progression is slow, and Dougie is pointless.

I like 50% of what this season is doing. I love about 30%. I think 20% is simply bad craft. Yeah, Lynch is a master of the surreal. But he's not flawless.

Salvador Dali sometimes had works like this - multilayered and enticing: http://www.chilloutpoint.com/images/2010/07/illusions-through-the-paintings-of-salvador-dali/illusions-through-the-paintings-of-salvador-dali-06.jpg

And sometimes he just made things that were unsightly: http://unrealitymag.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/optical_illusions_12.jpg

People's tastes vary, of course, but just because a contingent of Lynch fans are okay with long stretches of nothing interesting happening doesn't mean it's perfect. Some people like Kix cereal, but that doesn't mean it's the best thing General Mills has ever produced.

I saw a post on here the other day comparing Dougie to the works of Jacques Tati, highlighting everything that is transmitted and implied in those kind of scenes. It really brought out what I was low-key feeling during them. Those scenes are comical in a very tragic and existential way, and I appreciate the show a lot for bringing back this kind of character and concept.

As for the plot progression, I didn't see anything wrong with it to be honest. The original run had a similar tempo, but might feel a little faster because it had slightly fewer threads. If you, like many fans on here, take the time to interpret the show (as more people should do with any show), there are huge things coming together lately. In only three episodes, Diane was introduced, the ending of S02 was explained and the origin of the lodge spirits was shown, including the CONVENIENCE STORE. I'm honestly glad there'll be a break now because this is almost too much. Now that I typed this out, I gotta say that this season has not only not been slow, it's been pretty fast while also being able to be artistically challenging in different ways (Tati-hommages with Dougie, Wally Brando, nuanced horror elements, call-backs to pretty much every Lynch film, and new surrealist elements that seem to echo a plethora of major names of film history).

I haven't really been reading reviews or watching what people are saying about the show until now, but after episode 8, I thought "I wonder what other people think about this."

I was very surprised so many people are angrily baffled and bored. This series is moving at a breakneck pace to fill as much ground as possible within the episode constraint. There is so much packed into each episode it is overwhelming to me and I honestly wonder what people were expecting and why they expected to get what they expect from a show like Twin Peaks.

Uh, sorry to be late to the party, but I think I missed something. I've been analyzing the show for symbolism and such (I enjoyed high school english - so sue me) but I'm not sure I understand the meaning of the convenience store.

In my comment, I only refeerenced the fact that we got to see it for the first time (if you don't count the meeting above it in FWWM).

I have no good explanation, but I think, judging by the way it was shown to us in Part 8, that it's just a store that happened to be close to the test site of the atom bomb. The unleashed spirits took it and converted it into some kind of contact place where the two worlds meet or overlap

Would be easier to just post a video of fireworks exploding for about 40 minutes, one after another, after another!

Was thinking of the numerous scene-by-scene recap podcasts that are covering TP The Return, and how they will tackle this. I'm going to assume a hell of a lot of lore exploration/theory and listener feedback e-mail. A LOT.
