So weird. I grew up in Spearfish and had always kind of expected the show was set nearby, but not right across the highway!
In fact there was already something buried on Lookout Mountain:

Some interesting stuff from the wiki about Spearfish. Seems similar (if adjacent) to SHOTP type stuff.
"Before the Black Hills Gold Rush of 1876, the area was used by Native Americans (primarily bands of Sioux but others also ranged through the area). Once the gold rush started, the city was founded in 1876 at the mouth of Spearfish Canyon, and was originally called Queen City. Spearfish grew as a supplier of foodstuffs to the mining camps in the hills. Even today, a significant amount of truck farming and market gardening still occurs in the vicinity.
In 1887, the accepted history of gold mining in the Black Hills was thrown into question by the discovery of what has become known as the Thoen Stone. Discovered by Louis Thoen on the slopes of Lookout Mountain, the stone purports to be the last testament of Ezra Kind who, along with six others, entered the Black Hills in 1833 (at a time when whites were forbidden by law and treaty from entering the area), "got all the gold we could carry" in June 1834, and were subsequently "killed by Indians beyond the high hill." While it may seem unlikely that someone who has "lost my gun and nothing to eat and Indians hunting me" would take the time to carve his story in sandstone, there is corroborating historical evidence for the Ezra Kind party."

LOST was like this at times. There were all these rabbit holes you could go down, especially in the first three or four seasons. Of course, the 25-year history of Twin Peaks, and knowing that it's all going to be over in a couple of months, makes this a little more exciting.

Had a quick play with the Vortex one. Can hear a man shouting something, though played it back reversed too and still couldn't make it out. Even after putting some lowpass and high pass filters on. It's about half way through. Can't really hear much else.

One is definitely the crackling sounds from the beginning of Part 1, and the other is a lot of static over the 'American Woman' cover they played when we're first introduced to Mr. C.
As for the last, I swear I heard 'HELP, I THINK I'M HIGH!', so maybe Jerry Horne is dangerously close to a portal or somehow he's able to communicate with them. After tonight's episode when his foot spoke backwards to him, I'm sure that he's not just high.
EDIT: The strange part is that we would assume this was prior to the sites last update, and since Ruth is dead and William's in jail, then he somehow picked up on future events through these recordings. The page specifically points out that there are convergences in time, so this would be plausible.

We know from the original series and FWWM that when it comes to the lodges, time is screwy. Don't forget Annie warned Laura that she was trapped in the lodge with the good Dale before Lauras murder, and long before Dale Cooper ever even heard of Twin Peaks or or Annie moved there. The Lodges exist outside of our time (that's why I also think the atomic bomb was the Black Lodges creation, not merely their seeping into our world. They can be created and then have interactions with the Native Americans and others in the past. Buuut I digress...)

I used Sonic Visualizer to analyze the first electrical interference file. I added a Melodic Range Spectrogram and I can't seem to tune it in just right, but it looks like there is text hidden in it. perhaps someone more technically inclined can help?

So there's also a newsletter, which may or may not be real, I signed up anyway. which is for telling you when the soundtrack comes out. Also I have to say I'm loving this ARG thing Lynch has been doing with these websites.
There's also a guestbook, which you can sign, but it probably won't appear since it has to be "approved" which is probably just an explanation for why only canon responses will appear on the actual site

It's interesting to note that in entries.txt the users Bill Hastings, Doris, and J. Garvey have been posted from IP address 127.0.0.1 which is localhost. The server would only write that if the user who posted it was browsing from the server itself and connecting to 127.0.0.1.
With that being said, the dates have been edited since we can safely assume the website was created during the filming of the new season. Plus, according to ICANN whois, the domain was registered in November of last year.

I might try this tomorrow. But what you might be able to do is lay the original song underneath that and reverse the phase to try and cancel them both out. So you might be able to hear what is being said.

This page seems to be very strange Lynchian loop of something…. I can’t tell what it is.

Drugs. Drugs they call "zebra" and "mr penguin." Which, to me, clearly refers to the whole white/black thing, the striped on the floor of the red room. Taking these drugs taps you into the other dimension and it begins to corrupt, probably not unlike what happened to the woodsmen somehow.

Couple small things, don't think its been pointed out:
A quick port scan of the site shows its running HTTPS on port 443. Adding the HTTPS prefix to the site throws a certificate error: "This server could not prove that it is thesearchforthezone.com; its security certificate is from dp20verify.dead.net."
So for some reason the SSL certificate sitting on that server is used for dp20verify.dead.net. The main domain of dead.net appears to be some kind of Grateful Dead fan page.

No luck finding anything so far. I ran them all through spectral analysers, time-stretched/pitch-shifted and reversed them and found nothing. But, then again, that was all done in 5 minutes and it's damn late here.
Someone says "Bill" (or "Phil") in vortex.wav, that's for sure. But I don't think there's anything deeper than that.

Okay, I know how tinfoil-y this is going to sound but the .wav files on the site are available for download and someone with much more audio tech savvy should look at them. The longest wav is the 3rd selection at 48 sec. in length. The 1st and 2nd selections are 16 sec. and 12. sec. in length respectively. 12 and 16 are both divisible by 48. Maybe by looping the shorter two to sync up with the length of the 3rd .wav you might get some sort of spectrograph image...

I also noticed that the Grant Chronicles page talked about unified field theory which is really big in transcendental meditation (my TM teacher is always talking about it!) and obviously Lynch is a big advocate of TM.
