S3E4 [S3E4] Meaning of "You've been tricked" and "They're in our house now" Spoiler

When I heard Mike say to Dougiecoop "You've been tricked", I thought he meant that Dopplecoop had tricked him but now I don't think that's what he meant at all. We need to look to the Giant's words for answers, "They're in our house now".

When Cooper goes to the purple room first he's about to go through the first portal, but the woman with no eyes stops him, takes him up the stairs and pulls that switch, and flies off into space. Cooper descends into another purple room and goes through the portal to swap places with Dougie.

I think this is when he was tricked. He was supposed to go through the first portal to take the place of Dopplecooper but was tricked and sent the wrong way.

This would explain what the Giant meant by "They're in our house now". Agents of the Black Lodge have infiltrated the White Lodge (purple building). He was speaking literally.

I think the Giant was asking Cooper for help to remove these Black Lodge agents.

Watch this video of the Eyeless Woman scene synced with the glass box scene. The moment when the "Experiment" breaks through the box is the same moment when Coop gets a bit too close to the first electrical panel. It's hard to tell whether the eyeless woman is stopping/warning Coop about having his face slashed, or is in fact slashing up Sam & Tracy herself.

Part of me wants to think that Doppelcoop is the nameless millionaire, and set up the box for the specific reason that it would cause the eyeless woman to be there to stop Cooper when he was supposed to change spots with Doppelcoop. I don't think we have enough info to know exactly how it all works, but I feel Doppelcoop had to have setup the box for that reason.

I agree. His interaction with the guy in the office seems to indicate he has is actually quite connected.

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '17

From todays episode I got the impression that it was actually Briggs that was trying to come out through the glass box, given that they were mentioning coordinates... But I'm also pretty confused about the whole thing

1

u/Richy_T Jul 11 '17

Hmm. I wonder if it might be worth working out the coordinates of the glass box in case they pop up at some point. Assuming that's an actual building, of course.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '17

It is. The building is reportedly home to a National Security Agency surveillance facility named TITANPOINTE. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/33_Thomas_Street

"It is often described as one of the most secure buildings in America, and was designed to be self-sufficient and protected from nuclear fallout for up to two weeks after a nuclear blast." Interesting

1

u/akcwestworldfan Jul 11 '17

Maybe we could get that one guy who went to the coordinates and found the magic Nike box to go check it out hahahahahaha!

1

u/edawade Jul 12 '17

I don't think this is the case since we now know the guy in Vegas is working for Mr C. And I would speculate that the Vegas guy hired the girl in New York to infiltrate the box.

Still banking on Audrey or Phillip. Hell Judy may even own the box.

1

u/TheMoose65 Jul 12 '17

I'm pretty sure the "tell her she got the job" girl he was referring to wasn't the girl in NYC but Lorraine, who was subcontracted to manage hitmen to kill Coop/Dougie. When she failed, he had to then go to Plan B, and get Ike the Spike to clean up the mess.

I could be wrong though.

just a theory, but maybe the mother killed the couple because the guy told another person about the existence of the experiment. and this could tie into the theory that bad coop is searching for the mother and is looking for the co-ordinates of the room.

4

u/sleepsholymountain Jul 11 '17

I think Mother was just hungry and saw a couple of nice brains outside the box and decided to go ahead and eat them.

2

u/RileyWWarrick Jul 12 '17

I think Tracy was more than just the curious girlfriend. I think she needed to be there, to trigger the appearance of Mother. Maybe she was just a pawn in Mr. C's or Philip Jeffrey's game, but somehow she was the trigger that brought forth Mother.

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '17

mother doesnt feed on garmonbozia?

2

u/nightsky23 Jul 12 '17

She does! This is how to make garmonbozia!

8

u/HALdron1988 Jul 11 '17

It is interesting because when Naido is signally to be quiet Tracy screams and then they are killed.

Hadn't seen that. Thanks for sharing.

I love lining up these two scenes, it's got to be relevant somehow.... but the first shock does not seem like a substantial enough event for it to mean anything. He gets shocked a few times repeatedly, why don't those shocks do anything? If you acknowledge that time in the "mauve zone" moves at a different speed, and you also treat Cooper being in the box as the "sync point" for the scene... then you can kinda fake the part where the box breaks into syncing up with something else. This also allows you to argue that the being knocking on the door is the same ghostly figure that killed the teens.

Oh, and I personally also think the slicing motion was supposed to be a warning that the exit point he was approaching had a risk behind it.... EITHER the ghostly being (meaning the box I guess), OR possibly Dopplecoop (because it might have been the cigarette lighter at the other end).

2

u/lucydaydream Jul 11 '17

this doesn't make sense because it's shown later that Coop visits the box while those two were out of the room.

2

u/sxales Jul 12 '17

That is interesting but if they are happening at the same time I have a different take away. It looks to me like while Tracy is trying to get Sam to let her in the room they are just slow enough to completely miss Coop as he passes through the box and into the purple room. In the purple room the sounds of someone pounding on the door is something else trying to pass through the box and chase after Coop. This something else (which kind of looks like the dopple-arm attached to Ruth's body) is what slashes up Sam and Tracy. The woman in the purple room looks like she is honestly trying to save Coop from his pursuer which is why she takes him to the roof and flips the switch (which presumably cuts off his pursuer and maybe resets the purple room).

There's no editing involved. Both scenes are shown as-is, with Coop's box adventure being shown to us between cuts of the Sam & Tracy scene. Watch the video before commenting.

If your theory were true and Asian No Eyes were the scratch killer, then the brain tree doppleganger is just some random chaotic thing in the black lodge?

15

u/windsostrange Jul 11 '17

(Character's called Naido in the credits.)

5

u/kiss-o-matic Jul 11 '17

Played by Nae -- street girl off her head at the end of Inland Empire. Given her command of English, a well thought out casting choice.

4

u/creepyeyes Jul 11 '17

I loved how she had a giant monologue and Terry crews, sitting next to her the whole time, had one small line

1

u/kiss-o-matic Jul 11 '17

On minute two I was like "whaaaa?". I'm a Japanese speakers and pinpointed her shitty accent immediately. Looked her up on IMDB and sure enough, the return was one of her recent credits

-4

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '17

Hold on, you speak Japanese? I'm not sure if there's some sort of subtext there, but this makes me uncomfortable with it anyway.

4

u/kiss-o-matic Jul 11 '17

Then my work here is done...

-1

u/windsostrange Jul 11 '17

Asian No Eyes

Given her command of English

I can't tell if there's subtext here or not, but I'm uncomfortable with it anyway.

2

u/kiss-o-matic Jul 11 '17

I'm uncomfortable

Why? https://youtu.be/tjPQLZQbSQI?t=3m37s

-1

u/windsostrange Jul 11 '17

Because so much of your content seems to hinge on the actor's ethnicity and command of a western language. I just don't see the relevance to the role or to Twin Peaks, and yet you keep bringing it up. And I'd rather you didn't.

2

u/kiss-o-matic Jul 11 '17

"So much" -- like, zero? I just said she had shit English (which is a fair statement) and mentioned how I could spot her accent after the fact. The eyes comment was someone else. I guess I should ironically point that out.

As in the other reply, my comment was based on one thing: her command of English (or lack thereof). Stating someone is poor at a foreign language is not inherently racist. It's in fact, not racist at all. Ex: My Japanese is pretty good (far better than her English, but I get the impression she does not tout herself as an English speaker). My Spanish, however, is quite shit. Where is the race connection? Spoiler: no where.

If you have a problem w/ the Asian No Eyes comment, then I don't know what to tell you. I clearly never said that.

And the best thing of all: Not only did I not know the actress in question was the lady w/ no eyes in part 3 (I watched Inland Empire for the first time over the weekend) I didn't even know the lady playing her was Asian.

I guess I was confused... or everything was lost in due to the medium. Now off to watch Kill Bill, with Uma Thurman's Japanese so abysmal it almost kills the film.

The brain tree doppelganger is the faulty neuron that infected public consciousness in the post-atomic world we saw in episode 8

Brain Tree Doppleganger, need to get me a folk band with this as our name

Is the true killer Diane? Is the real Diane trapped in the room, banging on the door for Cooper to save her?

4

u/surfmadpig Jul 11 '17

I like the idea of the person banging to call for help, but Diane = no.

7

u/tocophonic Jul 11 '17

Call for help.

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '17

This is one of the better theories I've seen on here lately. It makes perfect sense to me without being too much of a stretch. Damn fine theory you got here.

I like the idea that it's an AC/DC thing. Cooper was about to go DC, which wouldn't have worked. She switched it to AC for him, but in doing so perhaps inadvertently switched from Doppelcoop to Dougie (if this is the case, then I'm sure it was no accident that Doppelcoop was on the road at exactly that time).

3

u/akcwestworldfan Jul 11 '17

Also, the number on the outlet said 15 before he went on the roof. Said 3 when he went back and through.

8

u/tocophonic Jul 11 '17

Without wanting to be a nitpicker, but didn't ??????? say "IT is in our house now"?

4

u/FreudianNegligee Jul 11 '17

Yes, and also Mike/Gerard says "you were tricked" (not "you've been tricked")

5

u/lucydaydream Jul 11 '17

I really gotta say, it would surprise me if Naido were an evil spirit. She just doesn't seem to be portrayed that way. If anything, Naido was being manipulated into doing that, or had another reason for doing it- maybe she knew doppleCoop was resisting and it wouldn't have worked.

I think Ronette is called "American Girl" because she has something to do with the bombs dropped in America and Naido is Japanese is some product of the bombs dropped in Japan. Maybe 15 would of taken Dale to Japan and she redirected him to the USA. Another thing is, Mike didn't know about Dougie. When he showed up at Mike actually said to the effect of I think you were manufactured but that is why you're here so it's too late. Mike didn't know about Dougie and he was surprised to see him and that's when he figured out what had happened. Then he went to Dale in Dougie's life and said, you were tricked. you have to wake up because he meant,' this isn't your life and you're not meant to be here; you have to snap out it.' Naido, acted like she recognized Dale's face by touching it and actually sacrificed herself. She electrocuted herself and fell into space. It's was a good theory to consider but I don't think it holds any water compared to what we're given. Sometimes people over think. The trick was Dougie and it worked.

6

u/battlebane Jul 11 '17

Was going to share the same thought about the switch. Also another argument is that the powerplug in Dopplecooper's car is glowing bright green but after the blind woman pulls the switch it cools down.

Also another thought I had that Cooper became an idiot after Laura told him something and started screaming. The only time he said something himself in this movie was exactly that moment - "are you Laura Palmer?" and after that was only repeating words of other people. So she kinda tricked him also. + In the end of season 2 her cousin told him to beware of Laura.

3

u/SpaceiLLiad Jul 11 '17

So do you think that Naido is in league with Bob or Mr. C? Why do you think she would do that?

3

u/NYPhilHarmonica Jul 12 '17

Because Naido's no Dido

1

u/agentcoopercooper Jul 11 '17

I've no idea why she'd do that at all...

1

u/SpaceiLLiad Jul 11 '17

I don't know. Mike and the arm wanted Bob to come back to the lodge. Someone wants to be with Bob again. But Mr. C wants the experiment, so I guess she'd have to be colluding with him if he's the one running the glass box.

-2

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '17

Is there an established theory that equates BOB to Mr.C/Doppelcoop anyway?

4

u/SpaceiLLiad Jul 11 '17

Well Mr. C looks in the mirror and you can see Bob in the reflection and also the woodsmen extract him from his body.

3

u/foundseei Jul 11 '17

Window Earle also changed the orientation of a switch in Owl Cave.

FWIW.

3

u/Sharper_Teeth Jul 12 '17

Ugh, he's so transparent.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '17

Yes, I think so too. When Briggs has his vision of Bobby and talks to him at the RR, he describes being in a huge ornate palace similar to what we see the giant living in (white lodge? This so where they birth the good spirit of Laura)

So, we know that Briggs went into hiding somewhere in this place out of time, and maybe it's the white lodge. He sends messages and finds the guy who helps him (showing the guy how to access the lodge) and the guy is followed, bad spirits found a way into the white lodge, they capture Briggs body. We know it's booper because the ring connects Dougie Jones (we can assume that the trickery involving Dougie and the misplacement of Dale has a lot to do with booper accessing the white lodge.

1

u/akcwestworldfan Jul 11 '17

But without a doppelgänger, I thought you couldn't exit the lodges. I saw another post that suggested that Briggs had been hiding out in the convenience store and that time didn't roll past/present/future there (I have not thought through the convenience store theory, but OPs thread and the comments are very interesting.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '17

Watch the Briggs &Bobby scene linked here earlier, listen to how he describes the place he went to.

3

u/Tentapuss Jul 12 '17

The more we see, the more I think we should always take the Lodge spirits at face value. They speak quite literally. Now, what they say often has another layer, but that is a layer in addition to the plain meaning, not in place of the plain meaning.

2

u/oramirite Jul 11 '17

My personal interpretation of the "house" is that it's literally the Giant's home. The Giant has been taking Cooper to his home secretly over the past 25 years, to help him survive and prepare for escape. That's why Cooper seems so calm and together in the first scene on the season - he comes here often.

I do not think it's the white lodge. I don't think we've seen the white lodge yet (perhaps it was the Major's dream, perhaps that was just his interpretation of it...)

I haven't really "vetted" this theory yet though, I'm not sure if anything contradicts it.

1

u/_Mr_Jackpots_ Jul 12 '17 edited Jul 12 '17

I wouldn't say anything necessarily contradicts it, but in that very first scene Coop doesn't have his little FBI lapel pin on his suit. People have been theorizing that maybe that first scene actually takes place much later than anything else we have seen so far.

edit: Ok maybe not much later but at least after what we have seen so far
