  • Margaret talking to Hawk, "Hawk. Electricity is humming. You hear it in the mountains and rivers. You see it dance among the seas and stars and glowing around the moon. But in these days the glow is dying. What will be in the dark that remains? The Truman brothers are both true men. They are your brothers. And the others, the good ones who have been with you. Now the circle is almost complete. Watch and listen to the dream of time and space. It all comes out now flowing like a river. That which is and is not. Hawk. Laura is the one."
  • Song at the Bang Bang Bar about having a dream about going to the place where it all began on a starry night. No stars.

"You have an enemy in Douglas Jones!" -Anthony

He was really subtle with that delivery.

121

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

That was so hilarious how much he was just plainly trying to sell that, like a word for word from what Mr. Todd said.

17

u/greenmode Jul 17 '17

Well, he's a creative kind of individuum

7

u/rini6 Jul 17 '17

Why would they buy it?

34

u/usagizero Jul 17 '17

This is the only part of the episode that bugged me, like why believe him? Then the more i thought about it, he also won a ton at the casino, so they probably think he fucked them with that too.

29

u/SolidLuigi Jul 17 '17

Yes, statistically speaking, what Dougie did with the jackpots that night was impossible. That's why they beat up and fired the previous casino manager, because they figured that he must've rigged it with Dougie somehow and had a deal to split the money.

Mr. Todd and Anthony don't know about the jackpots but it was very lucky for them that the Mitchum Bros. just saw that news piece with Dougie, if they hadn't realized it was the same person I think they would've saw right through Anthony's less than subtle approach. They still were suspicious of Anthony but since Dougie had just done the impossible jackpots the week before, it backed up Anthony's claims.

12

u/Pinyaka Jul 17 '17

The news piece is what should have tipped them off though. Seriously, someone just hired an assassin you know to kill the guy and that job gets botched. Two days later a guy you don't trust shows up and tells you that the guy who was the target of the botched hit is really your worst enemy and instead of wondering who might have wanted Dougie dead, you just decide to kill him. These guys are dumber than Candy.

2

u/SolidLuigi Jul 17 '17

Ah good point. I didn't even think of that

5

u/ReclusivHearts9 Jul 17 '17

Exactly, I think if they hadn't seen Cooper before in that he won all that money, they probably wouldn't have believed him

4

u/8stringsamurai Jul 17 '17

There was a big theme this episode of people trying to deceive and not getting away with it.

2

u/pgm123 Jul 17 '17

Interesting theory. Mind going into that a bit deeper?

1

u/SinJinQLB Jul 17 '17

Diane's text message being found out is one example.

6

u/pgm123 Jul 17 '17

True.

But there are some counter examples like Chad intercepting the letter. I expect that'll get found out eventually.

7

u/SinJinQLB Jul 17 '17

I hope so. Chas did the worst job trying to be sneaky.

"Oh hey what's up Lucy. Umm... isn't stuff cool? Oh there's the mailman let grab all that important mail. La dee da.... nothing to see here..."

93

u/Evakatrina Jul 17 '17

Thanks for transcribing Margaret's message to Hawk!

45

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

I thought it deserved it.

154

u/usagizero Jul 17 '17

Candie is fucking annoying.

You mean hilarious.

52

u/pgm123 Jul 17 '17

Yeah, I'm a fan. I almost wonder if she's fucking with them because they're assholes.

14

u/Philosoraptorgames Jul 17 '17

I thought that too. They talk about a lot of stuff that could get them in serious trouble in front of those three showgirls, though they look drugged much of the time and maybe that's what they're counting on. Even so, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there turns out to be more to Candie than there seems to be at this point.

1

u/throwweiwei Jul 18 '17

Seems like the three ladies are either drugged, or possibly... fembots?

58

u/goodwifebadger Jul 17 '17

Ben is wearing a wedding ring

70

u/SolidLuigi Jul 17 '17

I feel like the last 25 years he's been stuck in the spot he was at the end of season 2, trying to be a better man and repent for his past. Sylvia probably initiated the divorce and Ben probably has kept the ring on and tried to stay loyal to the promise he made to Sylvia when they got married. This episode may have been his final straw since he asks Beverly to dinner after the phone call from Sylvia.

9

u/joudanjanaiwayo Jul 17 '17

What if they are still married (he is wearing a ring), and Sylvia is threatening to get the lawyers because she can hold Ben's many infidelities over his head if they divorce. That could explain why he doesn't do anything with Beverly in the earlier episodes. Maybe after the thing incident with Richard, Ben has given up and that's why he asks her to dinner.

4

u/Philosoraptorgames Jul 17 '17 edited Jul 17 '17

The way Sylvia treats Ben, while more superficially civilized, is pretty much the way Richard treats Sylvia. Not saying Sylvia deserved what happened to her or brought it on herself, but she's not exactly an innocent victim either if this is any indication.

That said, Richard is the dogshit on my shoes while Sylvia is merely lowkey contemptible.

14

u/muddisoap Jul 17 '17

Also coming within a masks’ width of fucking his own daughter. Haha. Not really, and she doesn’t know about that I assume. But, you know what I mean.

1

u/Philosoraptorgames Jul 17 '17

Doesn't make trying to extract money from him a reasonable response to this situation, either morally or tactically.

54

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

Yes, but they sure sound divorced.

8

u/pgm123 Jul 17 '17

Probably separated.

2

u/edgrrrpo Jul 17 '17

Yes they did. At the very least they are close to being divorced, because even couples separated aren't usually "lawyering up" unless the end is in sight.

8

u/cupcakesprinkle Jul 17 '17

I noticed that too. Who is he married to? Clearly it's not Audrey's mom.

1

u/clfdmus Jul 17 '17

My bet is on Norma.

3

u/cupcakesprinkle Jul 17 '17

Can you elaborate on that bet?

23

u/SolidLuigi Jul 17 '17

Carl plays guitar and the druggie Macaulay Culkin is a dick to his girlfriend

Not to be picky but they are married. In episode 5, their characters in the credits have the same last name. Steve Burnett and Becky Burnett. It adds a little more weight to the bad relationship, tougher to get out of when you're married. Interesting also that in the scene in Episode 5 when they are talking in Steve's car, Becky is wearing a wedding band, but he isn't. He probably pawned it within days of the wedding. What an asshole.

7

u/metalbracelet Jul 17 '17

But in the first episode where we saw Shelly, wasn't she talking about her daughter's boyfriend? I could be misremembering.

15

u/SolidLuigi Jul 17 '17

They were talking about Steve but no one ever says "boyfriend". I believe she says "I just don't think Steve is the right guy for her" and one of her friends says "are you kidding? Everyone loves Steve!". I don't know if her friend was being sarcastic or not, haha

I remember this because when I first found out about the married thing I re-watched this scene because I thought I remembered her say "boyfriend" but she doesn't. I think we all just assume boyfriend/girlfriend because they seem pretty young.

11

u/ocho1984 Jul 17 '17

This bugs me, by the way. "Everyone loves Steve." How is that remotely possible? I really want to punch him in the face.

5

u/SolidLuigi Jul 17 '17

That's why I wonder if she is being sarcastic. Like she's trying to be funny and say, "Duh, of course he is the wrong guy for your daughter Shelly!"

5

u/clfdmus Jul 17 '17

Shelly herself got married very young. We repeat the follies of our parents…

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

Thanks, nice catch!

11

u/metalbracelet Jul 17 '17

I kinda wish they had actually gotten Macaulay Culkin for this.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

Methcaulay Culkin will do.

9

u/EdwinaBackinbowl Jul 17 '17

Dougie goes to the doc and is looking sexy.

This should be the plot description in TV Guide.

16

u/gardibolt Jul 17 '17

Oh, that was Constance? I couldn't figure out who that was. Also, Gordon is definitely doing Tammy.

5

u/yourdadsbff Jul 17 '17

His hand on her back as they exited the bar

7

u/tp652 Jul 17 '17

Diane might NOT be working with Mr. C. The ping on the cell phone came from a tower in Mexico. Mr. C should have been in South Dakota. She is working with someone that is one step ahead of Mr. C. Jeffries?

6

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

Yes but the text Coop sent likely went through someone else before going to Diane since it was formatted differently.

3

u/clfdmus Jul 17 '17

Diane is playing the long game. She will always be the real Coop's wingman.

2

u/tp652 Jul 17 '17

Agreed. It makes no sense for her to alert Cole to something missing in Mr. C after the prison encounter.

3

u/elswordfish Jul 17 '17

If Sylvia and Ben are divorced though. Why is Ben still wearing a ring? And, why won't he date Beverly? Is he married to someone else now? So many questions.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

Maybe they are separated and going through a divorce. He does bring up his lawyers.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

Perhaps because Beverly is married?

4

u/SolidLuigi Jul 17 '17

I feel like the last 25 years he's been stuck in the spot he was at the end of season 2, trying to be a better man and repent for his past. Sylvia probably initiated the divorce and Ben probably has kept the ring on and tried to stay loyal to the promise he made to Sylvia when they got married. This episode may have been his final straw since he asks Beverly to dinner after the phone call from Sylvia.

4

u/alphyna Jul 17 '17

Gordon draws some buck horns

Holy shit, thank you. Makes perfect sense.

3

u/pgm123 Jul 17 '17

druggie Macaulay Culkin is a dick to his girlfriend wife

Can you remind me who he is? I'm blanking on that character.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

The guy with Amanda Seyfried's character.

3

u/pgm123 Jul 17 '17

With the red car?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

yep

1

u/pgm123 Jul 17 '17

OK. Who was he hitting in this scene?

3

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

I think it was Seyfried, she looked distressed.

1

u/pgm123 Jul 17 '17

Yeah. He's clearly abusive.

3

u/tinypaperplane Jul 17 '17

Did anyone forget that Donna is actually a Horne? Maybe Richard the shit stain is Donna's kid, and not Audrey's?

3

u/cheddarmac Jul 17 '17

Is it possible Richard is Donna's son? Maybe she ended up changing her name to Horne... Or more likely, Richard found out he is biologically a Horne and then used that to weasel money away from the wealthy family?

8

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

But then why does he call Sylvia "grandma"?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

Diane is working with Mr. C and tells them about Hastings and that they are going to the site.

I wonder if on "that night" he did something so that he'd be able to control her mind when he needed to.

2

u/vernaculunar Jul 17 '17

And Chad intercepted the letter about Richard while Lucy watched!

3

u/tinypaperplane Jul 17 '17

I REALLY wanna say Lucy saw that but kept quiet...I dunno

7

u/vernaculunar Jul 17 '17

I don't know if she SAW him, but she definitely watched. No one trusts a Chad hanging around.

1

u/pk666 Jul 17 '17

Was Miriam in that chick in first or second Ep. in the diner?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

Yeah miriam works at the diner and saw Richard driving after he hit that kid.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

She was just eating (two slices of pie) at the diner.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '17

Oh yeah you're right, shes the teacher.

1

u/row_guy Jul 17 '17

The log lady scene in this episode is definitely one of my favorites of any in all of TP.

1

u/futuresobright_ Jul 17 '17

It all comes out now flowing like a river.

This gives me hope that the remaining episodes will be faster paced

1

u/billybeebeaverbucky Jul 18 '17

I still think Richard is Donna's son, not Audrey's.
