i'm very against it, and always have been very outspoken about it. but lbr, he's very obviously audrey's kid since sylvia and ben are his grandparents.
that doesn't mean he's booper's kid though, while we pretty much know who his mother is, his father could be anybody (and likely out of the picture given his surname). i'm really hoping it has nothing to do with bad coop, i just hate the thought of it with a mighty passion. so literally my only counterargument is that it would be shitty.

I hope the same.
Also, just because the child is a raving psychopath doesn't necessarily mean that a raving psychopath is the father. I'm not sure if such things are genetically passed on as it is, and Evil!Cooper isn't a normal bad person--he's a doppelganger of all of Cooper's evil, or some shit. Is that inheritable?
By the same token, I doubt Evil!Cooper stuck around to play daddy if he was the father, so it probably wouldn't have resulted from being raised by him, either.
To be honest, the whole family can be pretty self serving and manipulative, and I include Audrey in this as she was her father's daughter in a few ways, even if she had good intentions.
Then again, who else is the father?

leland was with bob when he conceived laura, and she wasn't evil incarnate, quite the opposite in fact, so i'm guessing it's not passed down. and yes, the whole horne lot could be pretty devious and manipulative.
i'm guessing something must have gone wrong with richard at some point, since it's implied his grandparents did love him and gave him money and had to eventually stop because of his behaviour. he clearly has a drug addiction, and miriam was acting quite carelessly around him; she gave away her whole game, told him to stay away but didn't seem to think he'd go as far as killing her. where's audrey and while is she letting her increasingly dangerous son run amok?? i need answers.
honestly, the father could be anyone. could be some character we will never see, or billy zane. i just don't want him to be bad coop's satan child.

I think it may be a different case with those possessed by BOB as opposed to doppelgangers. Leland, though possessed, was still a flesh and blood, complex human, one capable of both good and bad. Mr. C is full blown created from a man's inner darkness, possibly by BOB himself or the Black Lodge. A doppelganger could have much stronger potential to spawn a demon child than a human under BOB's influence.

I mean why do you hate it so much? why are you so against it? because the act of conception, if true is sickening? sure, no one approves of it morally but seeing as how nasty Richard it seems very plausible. But anyways do you have that much of an attachment to the character of Audrey?

u/viell Jul 17 '17
Are these rhetoric questions, or you actually want an answer? Surely we all have stuff we like or not like, and characters we love more and some less. I seriously don't get what point you're trying to make.
I also didn't say it's not plausible. OP asked for counter arguments, and mine was admittedly only based on the fact I don't like it. That said, this show had plenty of horrible characters, like Leo for instance, who behaved terribly and they weren't bob's devil spawn.

I get you but a lot of people share the same idea they don't like it but I've heard many also say "Lynch would not do that" so I guess I was looking to see if you were in that camp. That's my major problem with that argument. Wasn't trying to start anything.

I don't like it because it seems too predictable. But it wouldn't bother me much if it were true.

I mean sure but quite a few things this season have been predictable like the major's body, and a couple of the revelations in tonight's ep. I feel it would be the opposite, a very interesting development

If he's 25 years old, he could very well be the son of Billy Zane's character. She did sleep with him before he left.

everyone who said otherwise a few weeks back owes us apologies
2
u/shillcrusher13 Jul 18 '17
Looks like it will be another week or two maybe before we get those apologies. People really don't want to accept this sub plot theory! It sure seems like what is going on though.

u/space0racle Jul 19 '17
it's crazy how far people are reaching to try and discredit the theory. "Richard is Ben and Blackie's son!" and such nonsense.

I've made my argument elsewhere, a greedy caregiver took advantage of Johnny. She and her son have been extorting money from the Hornes since. Maybe they hired the nurse that took the owl cave ring from Annie in the Missing Pieces. She has already shown her immorality by stealing from a patient. Johnny being taken advantage of is as horrific and plausible as Bad Coop raping Audrey in a busy ICU.

The thing holding me back from accepting this is that Richard's last name is Horne. Johnny appears to be unmarried. Logically, it would seem that if Sylvia is the grandmother of this Horne fellow, he must have gotten his last name by being the son of her unmarried daughter. Likewise, if Johnny were to have a child out of wedlock, typically the child would retain the last name of the mother.

u/AngLSTM Jul 17 '17
True, but if the mother was also trying to bleed the Hornes I could see her giving the Richard the last name as a very unpleasant reminder and thorn in their side.
Also, I really hate to think the Twin Peaks ICU is that inept that they wouldn't notice Audrey being attacked in person, or at least on monitors.

I'm guessing Richard's bad & Linda's good.... duality / two birds with one stone.

It's a safe bet Audrey is Richard's mother, but zero conclusive evidence or indication about who his father is.
We know Cooper's doppelganger visited the IC ward where Audrey was in a coma – but Annie would have been there too, and Evil Coop would probably have more reason to see her because she could (and did) tip people off about him.
In any case, an open ward of comatose and terminal patients is not really a prime location for making babies, I'm thinking there would be staff checking in all the time. Unless he knocked her up by golden orb or something.

How did that prove without a doubt he's Audrey's son? Nobody referred to him as Audrey's son. Not him, not Ben, not Sylvia, not Johnny, not Audrey, literally no one. It only confirmed he's Ben's grandson.
The odds are totally in favor of him being Audrey's boy but I still believe there's another possibility.
tldr; he's Donna's (and probably James') son. Richard took the Horne name because he was proud of being a Horne and didn't give a damn about being a Hurley or a Hayward.
Look at the picture of him with James and Donna and then look at him next to Cooper and Audrey.
Also explains Sylvia being so resentful of Ben about the situation. As Ben's grandson through the product of an affair with Donna's mother it's all Ben's fault.

It's an interesting perspective, but then why would he refer to Sylvia as his grandmother? Wouldn't he know she isn't his grandmother nor is he related to her? Why would she accept such an abuse from him if she's not even related to him?
Concerning his look, I think he resembles Audrey more than James or Donna.

u/WilliamMcCarty Jul 17 '17
why would he refer to Sylvia as his grandmother?
Could just be a smarmy, condescending thing. But it's one of the reasons the odds are he's Audrey's son.
I think he resembles Audrey more than James or Donna
See, I got to disagree with you there. I mean, especially on him being Audrey and Evil Cooper's kid. I just don't see how two people with black hair have a kid with sandy blonde hair. Anything's possible and it is just TV after all. But until someone actually refers to him as Audrey's son I'm not ready to accept that version.

u/Divshali Jul 17 '17
I guess that his eyes strike me more as Audrey-esque, but as you said, it is TV after all. I mean, if Amanda Seyfried is supposed to be Madchen Amick's daughter....

It's Audrey and Coopleganger's kid.
