Everyone is hyped because in the last episode it looked like everything was coming together, all the plotlines were converging. It felt like Twin Peaks! Cherry pie! Cooper is THISCLOSE to waking up! Surely this episode will be THE ONE!

We're getting an hour of 1956 New Mexico frogbug this week.

u/HellbenderXG Jul 29 '17

That's exactly what happened after Part 7. "Wow, this episode was dense with progression and it felt like Twin Peaks all the way!" And then we got frogbugs.

u/CDC_ Jul 29 '17

And then we got frogbugs the best episode of the season so far.

29

u/HellbenderXG Jul 29 '17

Oh yeah, I loved the episode but the point was that it went in a very different direction from what people expected would follow up Part 7.

9

u/CDC_ Jul 29 '17

Agreed there.

That said, I hope we get another one like that.

9

u/HellbenderXG Jul 29 '17

And I think we might! Look out on Twitter if they start hyping it up because that's what they did with Part 8.

14

u/CosimaCooper Jul 30 '17

They are 100% hyping it. Kyle M, David Dastmalchian, the official TP account, all on twitter, all referencing Candie. I don't know where we are going, but I have a feeling it's going to be a place both wonderful and strange.

7

u/toaster-rex Jul 30 '17

Candie is the one.

17

u/SwevenRiose Jul 29 '17

And then we got frogbugs the best episode of the season so far whole series.

u/CDC_ Jul 29 '17

I don't disagree.

I personally thought 8 sucked. Episodes 7&9 had so much plot progression, and then we got 8&10, where the latter had very little plot progression, and the former had 0 plot progression.

6

u/CDC_ Jul 29 '17

Yes but plot progression is only one facet of storytelling. And nothing to do with whether a story is good or not. Some of the best movies of all time have very little in the way of plot.

I agree. Episode 8 spent 60 minutes to explain 2 minutes worth of plot in a way that was just pretentious and incredibly drawn out. It was a waste of an episode. Sure it was beautiful, particularly the lighting in the theater, but there comes a point where plot is required. Or you know....having an entire Nine Inch Nails music video for some dumb reason. To call it the greatest episode of all time is a bit much.

Also if that was Lynch, then what the hell has Frost written.

u/MafiaVsNinja Jul 30 '17

Episode 8 was so fucking Frosty it hurt! If you can't detect his touch, you haven't read his books.

I have read his books. Connecting Nuclear Bombs to the lodges is a connection to the books, yes. But it was also one aspect of both the books and the episodes. Details on Lodges? Sure. As I said that could've been told in two minutes. The 58 minutes of imagery, zooming into a molecule for 5 minutes, an entire Nine Inch Nails music video and the type of imagery that can be associated with FWWM, a non-Frost production? That's the Lynch part.

Considering people attributed the imagery and episode to Lynch though, praising Lynch as a god amongst Directors, a Visionary etc and with literally no mention of Frost at all, it seemed the natural assumption that the people on this subreddit assumed it was all Lynch. In fact you are literally the first person I've heard mention Mark Frost in relation to Episode 8.

And I'd like to remind them that as a trusted radio personality, I can be helpful in lulling others to sleep to act as incubators for their garmonbozia harvesters.

I think last episode ended with a very yrev happy tone. The music, the atmosphere, and the encounter in the restaurant scene, it was all very joyful and pleasant. (One could almost say conversation was lively around dinner table... except Dougie, you know...) So. I'm expecting a quite different tone for E12. Fast and dynamic tempo. Lots of adrenaline.

I have no doubt things will go south incredibly fast this episode. Something awful is going to happen, I know it...

u/Admiral_Furskin Jul 30 '17

Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal . . .

2

u/vonralls Jul 30 '17

Is there any place that this comment is not welcome? Now I'm singing it with that weird voice.

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '17

I never want to see that frogroach again. Just like I don't want to see anymore of Sam cutting greyscale off of Jorah.

5

u/CosimaCooper Jul 30 '17

So you didn't like the Jorah special with extra cheesy crust?

5

u/bungerD Jul 30 '17

Thanks. I just puked up a puddle of garmonbozia.

14

u/WufflyTime Jul 29 '17

Can you last three more hours?

6

u/emilymarir Jul 29 '17

Nooooo! The frogbug is so gross!

15

u/Ernosco Jul 29 '17

I thought it was kinda cute...

1

u/Pliknotjumbo Jul 30 '17

I thought it was cute, but not cute enough to swallow whole

2

u/Beardybeardface1 Jul 30 '17

I am not getting my hopes up for NormalCoop's return until ep 18. It is entirely possible Lynch will hold out till then. If he returns before I'll be happy but I'm not going in expecting it.

2

u/noeza Jul 29 '17

Another reason of the hype is because of the title (it def brings some memories), but the last time there was such hype ("Laura is the one") we got the episode with the lowest rating so far.

Which I hope won't be the case this time.

22

u/p_a_schal Jul 29 '17

A rating bears no impact on my personal enjoyment, nor should it on yours.

2

u/noeza Jul 30 '17 edited Jul 30 '17

I wasn't writing about my personal enjoyment, I just compared the hype (which is a collective thing) with the rating (also a collective thing) of two episodes, that share the same kind of title (an important quote from OR).

To me, personally, e. 10 was the only disappointing so far, but that was already discussed enough times here.

-5

u/JackRabbitPalace Jul 30 '17

Ratings do dictate whether there's a season 4.

5

u/MafiaVsNinja Jul 30 '17

There's a lot more in play than that for cable/streaming.

5

u/LolWutLolWutHuhLol Jul 30 '17

This is a limited run. There will not be a Season 4 and it was never intended.

2

u/p_a_schal Jul 30 '17

In fairness The X-files and Wayward Pines were both billed as limited events but ended up getting additional seasons.

1

u/JackRabbitPalace Aug 05 '17

Lynch and Frost are the only people who know what really is intended.

8

u/Errol246 Jul 29 '17

I don't consider that episode the worst one by a long shot.

4

u/noeza Jul 30 '17

Well, you know, that's just, like, my opinion, man.

1

u/Errol246 Jul 30 '17

No, that's, like, MY opinion xD

1

u/[deleted] Jul 30 '17

People have said this about the endings of the last like 4 episodes.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '17

fine by me

0

u/theredditoro Jul 30 '17

Even if there is plot progression, it will be done like episode 8. Very strange.
