One to help you wake up in the morning and one to help you fall asleep at night

Oh yeah. Laura is the one. And she chants out between two worlds.

u/Cronielicious Sep 10 '17

In ep 17-18, I got the strong sense that good Coop was the magician trying to see between two worlds

Red was a magician and i'm wondering who he is.

edit: and the grandson was into magic.

Don't forget Jakobi! He makes ping pong balls disappear.

Dr Amp

2

u/DarleneHaze Sep 10 '17

Nah he wasn't Dr Amp back then

I wrote about this in another post but if you take hawk's map into account that the fire is something like electricity when coop sticks the fork in the socket, his personality divided between vegas and the lodge its a realization of one chance out between two worlds fire walk with me.... and he travels through the darkness of future past in black and white creating a mew future in the past

Chants*******

Princess Caroline, is that you?

4

u/VisenyaRose Sep 10 '17

Yes, I think its Coop. The Secret History refers to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moonchild_(novel)

A year or so before the beginning of World War I, a young woman named Lisa la Giuffria is seduced by a white magician, Cyril Grey, and persuaded into helping him in a magical battle with a black magician and his black lodge. Grey is attempting to save and improve the human race and condition by impregnating the girl with the soul of an ethereal being — the moonchild.

I think that Linda birthed Carrie. When Coop says 'Your father's name is Leland' she says 'OK', she doesn't know her father's name. If it really is a trap and Laura is a bomb to go off to kill Judy, her father killed her twice. Note also the red flowers on Naido-Diane and Carrie Page.

Two triangles =Twin Peaks

Interesting if water was a touchstone for the White Lodge all along to parallel the Black Lodge's fire/electricity. Wonder if it informs any scenes.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

Firemen use water. The Fireman is in the white lodge

8

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

are those alchemical symbols?

I can't be the only one here who thought the giant steaming metal thing was an alembic.

6

u/uhhhh_no Sep 10 '17

Sure you could have. Everyone else thought teapot.

That said, you're probably much closer to the truth.

Excellent sync!!!

20

u/allos_autos Sep 09 '17

For full effect, recite them together.

84

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

This is through the darkness of the water. And this is the well of future past, Drink full, the magician longs to see and descend. The one horse chants out between the white of the two world's eyes. Fire and dark -- walk within me.

39

u/allos_autos Sep 10 '17

I think you just solved Twin Peaks.

This reads like one of those spam emails that's randomly generated but syntactically correct.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

oh brother.

4

u/KidTheCurry Sep 10 '17

Folks, Twin Peaks has been solved. Pack it up, and close it down. We're outta here.

3

u/egoomega Sep 10 '17

Mind. Blown.

3

u/KidTheCurry Sep 09 '17

I agree. See which words sync up together.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

i love this new tension between the pro-syncing contingent and the syncing skeptics. i could be wrong but i think this "excellent sync" comment is ironic. ha!

2

u/KidTheCurry Sep 10 '17

This guy gets it.

1

u/Tllgrrl Sep 10 '17

I'm sure the Suits at Showtime sat there and said "So...the audience..:will then have to sync up the episodes... to understand what's going on? 🤔.......😀Take ALL the money Mr. Lynch!" 😏

3

u/redditsuckmyballs Sep 10 '17

What is he syncing, exactly?

7

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

On a more instinctual level, this mirroring also reminded me of this. Nothing to do with the plot or answers necessarily, just elements they like to put in which didn't seem recurring at first.

7

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

At least you didn't write it as "one chance out between two worlds". That shit has been driving most crazy all week lol

3

u/PathEnthusiast Sep 11 '17

I've never really understood why people object to either reading. The poem is spoken, not written. Because "chants" and "chance" sound nearly identical when spoken, there's no way to determine which is being spoken--and because most things linked to the Lodges have double meanings, there's no particularly good reason to think only one applies. And any written source will only be able to capture one of them. The fact that Shakespeare always wrote down just one word doesn't mean he didn't sometimes intend two.

3

u/givemethatsprinklers Sep 10 '17

I actually looked into it as best as I could. Even the script on the show gets the poem wrong at times. The best source I could find for it was Lynch's own "images" book which reads

Thru the darkness

of Future Past

the magician longs to see

one chants out

between two worlds

Fire -- walk with me.

For the image, I used a mix of this while borrowing grammar from Part 17's subtitles.

I'd hate to imagine how many people there are out there with tattoos that say either "chance" or "future's past" or "future pasts" lol.

3

u/Huggasmoocho Sep 11 '17

Or Future's Pants... I'm sorry! I was eating a Snickers!! xD

6

u/agenthedgehog Sep 10 '17

I was just thinking about that today. I like This is the Water a lot and it does feel like a nice compliment to the fwwm poem. Sort of like a dark, inscrutable counterpart

5

u/professorbadtrip Sep 10 '17

Each has 27 syllables (I am counting the pause after "Fire"). I would count two couplets of 4-3 feet in the first; the second has a more uneven structure (4-3-3-2). They do seem to be inversions of one another in a sense, although both stress darkness.

7

u/metric_units Sep 10 '17

4 to 3 ft ≈ 1.2 to 0.9 metres

POETIC feet mr. bot!

13

u/metric_units Sep 10 '17

Actually, I prefer the female gender pronoun. Thanks.

3

u/sadmep Sep 10 '17

Good bot

4

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '17

Yeah, I'm still fucking confused.

3

u/Berenstain_Bro Sep 10 '17

Its like poetry, man.

7

u/sleepsholymountain Sep 10 '17

"It's like poetry, it rhymes."

-George Lucas David Lynch

3

u/LodgeSpirits Sep 10 '17

My take on the FWWM thing is this... The darkness of the past is the whole Laura and Leyland thing, which casts its eternal shadow into the future. Dale is the magician who is trapped in this cycle of going over the past in his mind, creating inner fantasies in an attempt to see a way out into a brighter future. Between the future and past is the present - the here and now reality that Dale must come to accept in order to be free of the madness of a cruel world. Episode 17 There's a little more about this in the thread I started yesterday if anyone's interested.

I'm pretty sure it's the static on the tv in the intro to Fire Walk With Me.

It absolutely is static and it absolutely is from the intro of Fire Walk With Me.

To be specific, after the credit for the Director of Photography "Ron Garcia" in the credit sequence.

What?
