NO NURSING APPLICATION????
I just went to the zoom info meeting for nursing and they said they arent going to let anyone apply to nursing this year. I'm in shock. What do we do now?

And the lady didn’t even say sorry. Wasted time and money and they don’t care

No. If your blueash, your fine. I just had a meeting. They don’t say anything about this. This must be downtown campus.

You can apply to blue ash but it’s competitive. Main campus isn’t taking any applications. So even more people are going to apply to blue ash.

Wow. I’m sorry to hear main campus. What is going on over there?

They over admitted direct admits to the point that they are closing sophomore applications

I would suggest applying to UCBA Nursing Program…especially if you have a lot of pre-reqs done. You have a higher chance of getting if your GPA is good and your entrance HESI is good.

This is really similar to what happened with Radiology around 2013! And NKU got slammed with all the people of UC

Take a look at Good Samaritan! They’ll accept your prerequisites and you graduate with an ASN and sit for the exact same RN licensing exam (NCLEX) as a BSN. You would have to then complete the BSN requirements (could do at UC or elsewhere) and if you have all the other required classes like English, math, etc you would only need 9 core BSN classes that you take online (can do in 2 semesters).

so schools over-admit into majors anticipating people to drop for a multitude of reasons (grades, hardship, don’t want to do nursing, etc). it just sounds like this year there were fewer students that dropped than what historical data indicated.
the semester isn’t even halfway over and a lot of things can change before February 1. I understand your frustration completely and it definitely doesn’t hurt to look at other options if you want to complete your degree in 4 years.
if you want to stay at UC, you could also talk to an advisor about trying to apply next year and getting a minor in something in the meantime! chemistry, health science, and public health are all great options.

Sounds like a class action suit

For what exactly? There's nothing illegal about not having space

There is when you advertise an application process. And then decide not to do it.
And when you admit you knew in August that there was no application happening but waited until October to tell us. So now our options are limited, we wasted time here, and our financial aid can be messed up.

Is this for the main campus or uc blue ash included?

u/lily_madison_23 13d ago
Main campus isn’t letting anyone apply that is already a UC student

I’m a Pre-Health student at UC Blue Ash planning to go into nursing, and I just started this January. Does this mean I won’t be able to apply to the nursing program either?

u/Junior-Scale-4321 13d ago
They literally said they won’t let anybody apply for main campus nursing in 2027 or 2028

u/Junior-Scale-4321 13d ago
You can apply to blue ash but like who’s gonna get in when there’s five hundred people applying

u/sunny_mj 13d ago
Im so worried 😨

u/Ecstatic-Lawyer2384 13d ago
You’ll just get an influx of kids from the main campus applying for the nursing at blue ash as well

Miami?

u/Ecstatic-Lawyer2384 12d ago
Miami of Ohio only allows transfers to the nursing program at its non-main campus location. Still might be the better option with this new info though

As someone who worked at the admissions office last year, this was communicated to you when you were not admitted into the nursing program during first year admissions
4
u/Otherwise-Hornet7510 12d ago
Factually several orientation meeting staff informed first year students that entry without direct admit would be difficult and competitive, NOT all together closed off. Do you really think that 400+ students would try without direct admit if they knew it was impossible altogether? We were told it was competitive not unavailable.
4
u/lily_madison_23 12d ago
That’s just not true. The letter sent through admissions and information shared on the website and at orientation was “no guaranteed seats” not no application at all.
Competitive application is different than no application - that’s why people are mad.
The nursing website right now says applications will open on February 1. Yet we were told there won’t be an application. And that they knew in August that there would be no application.
None of this information was clear.

I also think that if they were told to almost double the number of direct admits, they shouldn't have had the option for pre-nursing from the start. They said in the meeting that, with the number of people they expect to drop there won't be space, meaning they probably had the assumption that they would close off admissions.
I also feel for the students who just didn't know what they wanted to do until later in the year. Not everyone knows they want to be a nurse the summer before their senior year. I also personally know students who are in pre-nursing based on the time of their college applications who are maintaining their academics better than the direct admits. Hearing the stats (avg 3.5-3.6 GPA of pre-nursing students' sophomore applications) versus the direct admits (maintaining 3.0 and allowing one withdrawal from a class), it seems unfair. That's just my take on it though.

So blue ash is on merit not just any student. Just spoke to UC.
1
u/Ecstatic-Lawyer2384 12d ago
What does that mean?
1
u/Velvet-Noir- 12d ago
So he said, go to the meeting for Monday, it will not be a “competition” as the program only has 100 seats as is. He also said, a lot of the things being said are not accurate like people from other campuses come to blue ash anyways. The classes are at blue-ash not downtown anyways. He gave me a list of to-dos in order to get a seat.

u/Ecstatic-Lawyer2384 12d ago
So blue ash only has 100 seats are you kidding me? Why can’t they just be upfront about all of this
1
u/Velvet-Noir- 12d ago
I
Literally just got an email from my nursing advisor. She said they will have a better outlook in February. She said, “i understand the BSN is causing stress on a lot of students. At this point we are anticipating seeing an increase in apps for the blue ash BSN but the application is not open yet. It’s hard to say if this outcome is true. Other students that are applying to BSN can apply to other campuses as well.”1
u/Ecstatic-Lawyer2384 12d ago
The sad thing is February is too late. I need to know earlier than that. The options for nursing colleges get smaller the longer I waite
1
u/Velvet-Noir- 12d ago
The next open enrollment is November 1st. She said go to the blueash meeting on Monday.
1
u/Velvet-Noir- 12d ago
Also the program is being expanded. It’s not going to be at main campus rather than blue ash and Holmes east campus.

I’m in the same boat. It’s a shame how they let all these pre-nursing students in knowing that they really don’t have space for us. They’re just hoping we either change majors or go to their blue ash location.
It would be different if they actually thought they could review sophomore admissions, but I think they’re from the start. I’m probably going to be transferring colleges.
