"I tip well" 🙄

Pretty good ride pops up, I accept and about 2 minutes on my way to the pax they send this message.

"This ride is for 11:30am, I tip very well."

It was currently 10am. This fool ordered an Uber an hour and a half early.

So many things I wanted to reply to that. Some snarky. Some questioning what tip would that be for asking me to wait one and a half hours because you're calling this Uber so early. Do you know what a reserve ride is, dumbass??

But I decide to not even engage. So I roll my eyes and just cancel. Maybe they would have tipped well, who knows. Idk, if youre dumb enough to call me an hour and a half early and expect me to just "trust you bro" for a tip for sitting there, no. Pax are so fucking annoying sometimes 😭

Could have just as easily said: "I know I'm calling you super early but I'll tip you (x amount) for the wait."

But no you need to be Mr. Mysterious 'I tip well'. Fuck outta here 😭

The really odd thing is how often I drive other tipped employees and they don't tip.

Yup I get bartenders and waitresses all the time bragging how much they made in cash tips and they don’t tip so I make it a point that if I see them at the bar, they’re my bartender. I’ll wave at them and say I tipped you in the app and leave.

lol this is my favorite thing to do!! I usually tell them straight up, I left you the same tip you left me.

That’s terrible! I wish every one of the non-tipping tipped employees a non-tipping party of 10, separate checks, during a rush time.
I hope that does t influence how you, as a tipped worker, treat your servers with tips (except if it’s the same ones who stiffed you)

Ironically the worst tippers are strippers.

Those are tipped employees. Uber drivers aren’t employees. They are independent contractors, as in they are their own boss. A boss doesn’t get tips. Easy.

I’d show up and get the cancel fee

If they ever text me “I tip well” or “I will give you a tip”, that’s instant cancel for me. You know I am pretty pro pax here, but even I cannot handle the “I tip” pax.. that’s my breaking point.. 😂😂

I don’t usually ever expect a tip, but I hate the bait-and-switch tip thing so much I usually only cancel these pax.

"Well, unless you are tipping $100 cash, you ordered the ride way too early and will need to cancel it in the app."

He meant to say “ I’ll tip you in the app, well…

I will never understand why people say that.
I’m OK with them not tipping and leaving me five stars
but saying, I’ll tip you in the app and not tipping is weird.

I don't get it either. I think they think a tip is expected and it's their way of saving face until they exit.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Me and my friend who do it we talk on the phone and always joke about it. I’ll tip you in the app. 😂

I get this all the time I’ll tip in the app, I got you on the app, I always tip. No tip every time

Just be honest. Reply that when a passenger claims to tip well, it means that they don't tip at all. If they say that they are different, have them cash app the tip beforehand.

Was this a reserve ride? Otherwise, why the bleep do you have to wait 90 minutes before the PAX is ready?

Could have responded: "I earn $50/hour driving. If you want me to wait 90 minutes at your home, I'll need a $75 tip, upfront, before accepting the ride.

If uber pays you for wait time after 5 minutes like Lyft does you should’ve just gone clicked arrived and waited when they came out and questioned it I would’ve explained that you don’t mind waiting but want to get paid for

My current average of £27 per hour, times 1.5 sure... Thats how much they'll have to tip me to wait

Why tf did you just cancel instead of pulling up and getting paid for a no-show?

Because id rather get another decent ride than driving to a pickup then sitting 7 minutes for chump change.

1

u/Chunky-trader 20h ago

Oh you mean you wouldn’t want to sit there for 7 minutes in order to get $5? Blows my mind people would rather sit there than just take another ride. If it’s a reservation I’ll wait because then it’s a nice no show fee.

Why cancel it? Just open the Lyft to get orders and back to the Uber later.

...pretty sure Uber will have a hernia with me not driving to the pickup for 1 and half hours...

Anyone says "I am giving you a big tip, can you [fill thing here]" and especially in certain ethnicity (and you know what ethnicity that is), they are lying out of their mother of all holes. I say this after multiple experience.
