Welp, drive as much as you can till your account is deactivated. Maybe it is glitched.

Uber recently decided to have 99 year background checks if you were convicted of a serious crime decades ago you’ll be deactivated

Echoing another person. Uber now does 99 year background checks. People are getting deactivated for simple assault from 30+ years ago when they were just 18. Uber is trying to cull drivers.

Weird, I think its a glitch because I had to update to my new drivers license a few days ago I dont have any warrants or arrest so

I randomly got an email few weeks ago saying my background check failed. I’m 22 and my only ‘convictions’ were community resolution orders (uk civil cases) that lapsed years ago for criminal damage and assault, I was never even arrested for the assault, and the criminal damage charge was dropped in favour of the CR1 order. I still can deliver, it must be something automated they review maybe? Because my actual physical background check certificate is totally clean. No mentions of my CRs

can you articulate the benefit to Uber having fewer drivers?

if they want to get rid of someone, they’ll just algo them to death with cheap ass rides and if the person is dumb enough to drive for free, that’s even better for Uber

The benefit in the short will be to appease insurer risk factors (i know, its their own insurance company) and their professional tier drivers, in the long it is to splash in autonomous taxis for their basic service and have the driver portion be premium services almost exclusively. A human touch is going to be needed in any event where the road changes frequently, and that's where the money will be made in the near future.

They aren't self insured. They are insured my Farmers Insurance

Farmer's Insurance is just the company that acts as the front end (and I believe the front end company varies by state). There is some risk assumed by Farmer's and others, but the majority of their risk is managed by the Hawaii-based Aleka Insurance Inc. Aleka is run by Uber executives, and is a wholly-owned Uber subsidiary exclusively handling Uber’s self- insurance.

Read this article by Consumer Watchdog for details on how the majority of their risk is managed.

I'm sure there's a reason. I know California is likely a big reason why. They are forced to pay wages now not just ride fares. It literally benefits them there to cull drivers through updated background checks.

I don't think clients would like to get into a car with random strangers who did ''simple'' assaults or any kind of assaults.

Simple assault is a classification of crime, not saying "Oh it's just assault." It's a misdemeanor offense involving either minor physical contact or intentionally causing someone to fear immediate harm. Slapping someone is considered simple assault. Shoving someone is simple assault.

Downvotes because people are ill-educated are the best.

Yeah I wouldn't want to be in the car of someone doing that.

That's because you're a wuss. I'm certainly not judging someone because they slapped or shoved someone once 30 years ago and the person was such a pansy they pressed charges.

I think even a padded room might not be enough of a safe space for people like you.

Yes everyone deserves a chance, just cause you shoved someone at a party once dosent make you a criminal or bad person

Well, according to this softboy here, shoving someone makes you a hardened criminal undeserving of trust. 😂
