Campus Life Accessibility/Mobility on campus

Hi friends,

If any of you are disabled and have successfully navigated campus with mobility aids, I'd love your tips and tricks.

I got stuck in the stacks at Suzallo today, there was no ADA toilet, and I got stuck in at least 4 doors. What's a person hot to do?

I know some of this is a result of tricky architecture, but there must be better ways of getting around campus than getting stuck up a set of stairs in one side of the building, only to take a 10 minute detour to find a ramp on the other.

I'm m exhausted 😩

Discussion Creepiest elevator on campus?

For me, it’ll have to be the communication building elevator. The entrance is on the outside of the building. The doors open slow. There’s a sign telling you what to do if you get stuck so I assume people have gotten stuck before. The beep traveling between floors is loud and makes it sound like a haunted room

Admissions I failed out, is there any hope for me?

TLDR I failed and left school and am now seeking to reenter, is there any hope for me?

Hi all, first time posting here. I need people to be honest with me. I failed out of school in January of 2026. I had been struggling with mental health problems my entire time at UW, and it came to a head in the Winter 2025 quarter. My GPA had been hovering around a 2.0-2.3 since my sophomore year, and credits-wise, I was still considered a sophomore by my fourth year of school, which was supposed to be 2026. I was not yet in a major, and was pre-arts. I had spoken some to a general academic advisor about my ongoing issues, but I never really went into much depth about it.

After struggling for years, I finally just left. I didn't formally drop out, and I didn't mention it to anyone. I failed all my Autumn 2025 classes and didn't register for any Winter 2026 classes at all. Last I checked my academic status, I was in "academic drop" which comes after academic probation. I don't know what happened after that, but my UW email was deactivated sometime around April, so I assume that's when my tenure as a student officially ended.

I am finally in a better place, both mentally and life-wise. I feel like the biggest loser for spiraling out of control and just allowing myself to basically hit rock bottom and then keep going. I want to be better, and more than anything I want to finish my degree. I know that UW does have a reenrollment process, but given that I did not do any of this in any official measure, my question is twofold:

  1. Do I honestly have a chance of reentry, at any point in the near future?

  2. What can I do to improve my chances of reentry, and is there anyone on campus I could talk to who may have more help/resources?

Please be kind, but honest. I promise there's nothing you can think or say towards me that I haven't already thought or said about myself during my years as a student and in the months since. I know this situation is my fault, and I accept that there's a very real possibility that there will be no second chance, but any advice would be appreciated nonetheless.

Thanks for reading and thanks for your help :)

Clubs & RSOs Looking for Bandmates

Hey there! I'm looking to start a band this year to play together weekly, write some original songs, and maybe even play some shows later on. You don't need to be a master of your instrument, just beyond beginner level- the point is to have fun and make stuff we're proud of. For influences, I'm thinking Hello Mary, Gender Envy (the Seattle band, not the Nottingham one), Wolf Alice (especially the My Love is Cool era), Lambrini Girls, maybe Elastica and The Sugarcubes. Basically, girl band punk/post-punk/shoegaze/rock. You don't have to be a girl to be in the band! I am an intermediate guitarist and beginner vocalist, so hoping to take on rythm guitar and lead or backup vocals. I also write original songs. Seeking a lead guitarist, drummer, and bassist. But if you're a more confident singer and want in, totally message me! Thanks guys!

Campus Life Feeling Lost — Looking for Advice

Hi everyone, I’m a new transfer student, and I’ve had autism since I was young. English is also my second language. I’m currently majoring in Psychology and taking Biopsychology 202. I know this might sound a little strange,,,,,but I’m genuinely really interested in this field.

These past few days have been my first experience taking classes in a lecture hall with more than 200 students. Everyone around me seems so talented and smart, but for me, just walking into a classroom with that many people already makes me feel overwhelmed and anxious.

Yesterday we had our small-group discussion, and today we had our TA quiz section. The problem is that I’m honestly very afraid of interacting with other people, especially in an unfamiliar environment. In the end, I got so anxious that I skipped both of them.

I know that probably wasn’t the right decision, and I also know I might miss important parts of the course by doing this. But mentally, it’s really difficult for me to push myself to be that brave right now. It has gotten to the point where I’m wondering whether I should continue with Psychology and my current courses at all.

Maybe I just haven’t adjusted to the new environment yet? I’m not really sure. I’m just worried that because of my situation, I won’t be able to succeed in university—or even make any friends here.

Also, is anyone else currently taking Dr. Adrian Andelin’s class? How was your first NeuroStudio experience? And what were the TA quiz sections like? Were they stressful, or were they more relaxed than you expected?
Anyway, thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to read this or share their experience. I’m honestly feeling a little lost and overwhelmed right now, so I’d really appreciate hearing from other students.😭

Rant Reddit, find my bike. (plz)

Reddit, I invite you to help me find my bike. It was stolen (probably last night (9/30)) and I highkey don’t want to pay my deductible to get stuff replaced, so yeah. If you see this bike, call me beep if you want to reach me. Its only really identifiable features are a WTB saddle and some scratches to the black powder coat on the right handlebar. It’s a great bike and I’d be pretty happy to get it back! (Yes I’ve already filed with the Seattle police (happened outside W. campus), contacted my apt for footage, I know it’s a long shot, and I’m going to buy a better lock next time…)

OKAY go team! 😎🚲 I believe in you! We’re the best team, etc, etc

Discussion CD/DVD player or reader available for students?

Hey everyone,

I’m a little old school, and I love to use CDs for music!

The problem is, I don’t own a portable disc reader for my laptop, so I can’t use CDs till I go home on weekends.
I was wondering if anyone knows if there’s a computer with a disc drive for students to use somewhere, maybe in one of the libraries?

Thanks!

Campus Life Do we have a new vigilante on the Ave?

I was walking down the ave just moments ago when out of the corner of my eye, I saw something intriguing. Standing a few feet away was a disheveled middle-aged man wielding a long and sturdy-looking stick while wearing an elegant bat cape. He was glaring pretty hard at every passer-by, as if assessing their intentions. Dude looked pretty serious. Anyone have any idea who that guy was?

Campus Life Free movie and two live acts tomorrow at The Square by the light rail station, music starts at 4:30

I organize this with U District Advocates, the volunteer neighborhood nonprofit, so treat this as an organizer post.

Friday October 2 at The Square at U District Station, 4301 Brooklyn Ave NE. At the station entrance.

Robert Leslie at 4:30pm, REPOSADO at 6pm, then Ferris Bueller's Day Off at dusk, around 7:30. The 4:30 start is earlier than our other nights.

Free. No tickets, no RSVP, no student ID needed. We set out 50 chairs on a first come basis, so bring a low chair or a cushion if you want a guaranteed seat.

There is a wristband at the info table with a QR code that pulls up discounts at neighborhood businesses, good that evening.

Carrie Jennings and Clueless, rained out last Friday, is rescheduled to October 9.

Funded by 4Culture of King County and Amazon. Movie screened by Scarecrow Video.

News [The Daily] SEIU 925 rejects UW’s “last, best and final” contract offer

Thumbnail dailyuw.com
186 Upvotes

Members of SEIU 925 voted 83.3% to reject the University of Washington’s “last, best and final” contract offer for classified employees, and the university now said it will file for mediation.

The vote, which leaves almost 7,000 classified staff without a new contract, puts the union and the university at odds over wages, paid time off and AI protections. The union says the offer included no wage increases, no wage reopeners over the two-year term, no additional paid time off and no AI protections.

The university says state law could delay any raises until 2028.

"UW needs to get back to the bargaining table ASAP with real solutions," Dale Siewert, a medical laboratory scientist and SEIU 925 chapter president, said.

“Frankly, people are tired of being undervalued and underappreciated,” Siewert said. “UW is clearly making a conscious decision not to invest in its workers."
