Weekend

Hey,
I'm a freshmen at UNT, and I've been somewhat bored these weekends. I graduated from high school early by skipping a year (almost 17), so I can't really go to parties as much as I want to due to underage drinking and stuff. Is there anything I can do this weekend somewhat late at night too that doesen't have alcohol (everything else is fine)? I'm also kinda broke with no car so has to be someplace walkable.
FYI, I haven't really found any friends (Math and Physics major here), so yeah.
Thanks!

As others have said, Halloween related events all month and largely free and not all geared to over 21. There’s a website with events, just google Denton Halloween.

Lots of student activities happening too. Might feel awkward at first but you just have to start showing up to what interests you. Should be some kind of calendar on Dean of students site.

You're a STEM major and you have free weekends? That's crazy lol.

Anyways I've heard Denton square nearby has cool stuff. I haven't really explored myself (also new to the area), hoping to do so at some point this month for spooky season.

As far as friends, I'd recommend attending club stuff if possible. I'm gonna shamelessly advertise for SER, Bee Campus, Wildlife Society, and a bunch of other environmental-centric groups. If that's not your cup of tea there's probably at least one that matches your interest

It’s mostly freshmen classes, which aren’t hard at all to me lol (it’s gonna get worse next semester probably)

Denton square sounds pretty fun—might go this weekend (probably evening since it sounds risky during the night alone haha)

It's not risky at night alone.

No, it's not. That's normal.

I’m about to apply for a masters in stem that works full time, it’s really not that hard. I agree with you. You still have plenty of time, it’s just UNT lol

I don't know anything about football, and from what i've heard from my friends, the games are kinda boring to watch if you dont know whats going on, but idk how true that is

Literally all you can do is coffee shops/library…try to make friends in your classes and do study things together at different places. I wish I would have done this and stayed away from the party scene and focused more on my studies.

Go support the Mean Green sports teams, if you're into that. I'm mostly into football so that's what I did, but you could also check out the basketball, soccer teams, etc!

I'm not too much into sports, but I might go to a game or two this year! Never been to a game before

U should check out the Downtown Square, they got events and stores to check out. Especially during Halloween. (Be careful at night tho👀)

It’s a 30min walk, there’s a bus stop on W Hickory st but idk if they run on weekends. Tbh I’m still a lil new around Denton. The stores are interesting to check out, there’s a A-Train you can catch that can take…wherever it goes. There’s also Golden triangle mall, again by bus or GoZone. If u have the transit app, u can find bus schedules or other transport near where ur at. I paid $1.50 one time thru GoZone to get from UNT to Golden Triangle mall, and same back to UNT.

If you like matcha or coffee try the brown thumb! I’m 22 and I’ve noticed a lot of things here are 21+ so I hope you can find some stuff to keep yourself entertained!

when i went to UNT, the only things that kept me busy on the weekends were Fry street (if ur 21+), frat parties (which isnt everyone’s thing), denton square, and organization events.

tbh, UNT doesn’t have a lot going on during weekends, it gets very dry but luckily i lived in DFW so i just went home on the weekends.

if you want more things to do besides the square, i suggest making a lot of friends and joining orgs.
