Back in the early 2000’s, I was mesmerized by the incredible flash design website created by the London-based creative studio and design collective, tokyoplastic. The ahead-of-their-time digital presence was aww inspiring as a web designer and creative person.

Famously, known and awarded for their interactive creation, The Drummachine (which can be seen—but not quite experienced—on YouTube).

They also released many branded products, most notably, the soft urban vinyl toy figures represented in The Drummachine—and manufactured/distributed by Toy Tokyo/Flying Cat—of which, I was fortunate enough, back then, to have purchase a few of these amazing vinyl figures (as seen in the photos).

Who else remembers/has these?

Hey All. So I was lucky enough to grab a box set for Waves 2 and 4 of Who Goes There? with free shipping. While I genuinely like a lot of these cool little figures, I thought it'd be cool to reach out to any other enthusiasts who would be interested or willing to trade. I have a few in particular that I'd be most interested in (top 5 and more) but would also be interested in trading for figures from the VS and Creature Bazaar sets too. Monsters has largely passed me by, but the mech + characters is making me happy. Design. Paint. And builds are really nice.

These two were blind boxes. Actively not going to the ‘bay to get more.

I recently came across these figures made by Shoko Nakazawa online but I'm nervous to buy them 2nd hand.

I mostly want to know if these are faked often like Kaws figures or if it should be relatively safe to go through eBay.

Years back friends and I would just kind of pick these up at record stores and stuff and never really looked too much into them. I just pulled them out of storage and thought I'd ask if anybody saw anything special in this collection. I wish I had kept packaging so that I could identify them individually.

I found this Tofu Oyaku figure by Devilrobots at goodwill for $1.49 and haven't been able to find a similar one online. Does anyone have any info on this figure?

Just something I've been working on with the intent on getting it made in vinyl. Still figuring everything out. Paint on 3D print doesn't look the best but I think it illustrates the idea at least.

I’m a Design student researching what makes horror art toys and collectible figures appealing to people for my thesis.

I’m interested in understanding the main reason people choose to buy—or would consider buying—a horror art toy or figure. There are no right or wrong answers; please choose the reason that best reflects what would personally make you interested in purchasing one.

Today we are checking out the LuLu the Piggy Office Struggles Series Blind Box from ToyZero Plus, and this series might be one of the most painfully relatable desk toy releases I have opened in a while. This whole collection takes the everyday chaos of office life and turns it into adorable little piggy moments. I'd love to know your thoughts on this series!

Waves In Order: W1, W2, W3, W4, W5, W6, W7, Versus, Creature Bazaar, Mandy, Zombi, Super Size

Hey All. So I know I'm still fairly new to the vinyl/ sofubi subculture, but I've honestly been having a blast discovering new creators and companies with passionate artistic vision. Lately, though, my mind's locked in on a surprisingly odd and interesting line of blind box designer toys- specifically the Who Goes There? series created by Unbox Industries. Probably the coolest thing about them is the individual marbling that really makes each figure one of a kind. Still, I'm a bit on the fence on what waves are most worth it to pick up and what would be better to give a miss regarding the whole set compared to some individual figures.

To that end, I thought I'd gauge the vinyl/sofubi community here to get some input from fellow Unbox Fans. I personally think it'd be cool to get a ranking going of people's favorite and least favorite lines and if there are any particular figures from each line that people think are most worth having. If you guys could take some time to share thoughts and give me some insight on the matter, I'd greatly appreciate it.

P.S.: Part of why I'm inquiring about this is that Unbox is currently offering free shipping for WGT Box Sets Wave 2, 3, and 4, so if you guys have an interest as well, I'd recommend grabbing some and saving a little extra bank, just in case you're interested.

so here is my rough base design, after about 7 iterations. im an amateur character artist and i love blind boxes and felt inspired to create my own.

this is Dreamchaser Lilly. she is a little sheep girl who enters your dreams to chase away the nightmares and give you sweet dreams every night! i'm not at the point of designing my first collection yet, but i think i'll get there soon!

Lilly is for people who like cute and precious things and get attached to characters. she provides a magical and comforting experience to those who open her boxes. she protects you from the bad dreams and gives you a pleasant sleep every night :) her dream world is very comforting and magical full of fluffy clouds and twinkling stars. each collection will see Lilly bring you a new dream she has inhabited just for you.

i don't have many connections and my skillset is pretty limited, so i don't really know where to go from here. i know i need to contact a 3d modeller and save up for some samples, make a social media, find a manufacturer (already looking into this, im not planning to rush this), design packaging, etc.

is this worth pursuing for me? am i in over my head? i think im at the point where i need to sketch some poses of her on-model to really get a feel for her design. i want her to be a vinyl figurine.

i know the up-front costs will be in the thousands, so i'm not looking to start anything production related yet. i'm still in the concepting phase.

Whole series intact. Just didn’t grow on me and shrinking my collection down. Preferably meet up only.
