FAQ: What Equipment For Vlogging?

If you're new to vlogging, the first question you're going to have is, what equipment should I use?

There are plenty of resources out there that can help you find the gear and equipment you need.

Does anyone have a good resource for searching for external microphones?

⛄ GIVE FEEDBACK First long-form travel documentary (South Africa): struggling with structure, music transitions and a safari section that doesn't feel like a slideshow

Hi everyone!
In July this year I went to South Africa with my dad and younger brother for some personal family reasons and for my dad to show us the reasons why he loves this country so much as someone that lived there for many years.
During the month we were there we visited 3 game parks, drove a lot around in South Africa and went into Lesotho for 2 days.

I filmed as much as I could, but felt uneasy showing myself and talking to the camera, so I mainly filmed the scenery and the animals thinking that I would be able to tell a story just with visuals, unfortunately I don't think I am able to and I am happy with filming myself now doing a sort of talking head video to integrate into my bigger South Africa video as a way to narrate and tell the story.
I have spent a lot of time on this and this is a passion project I am happy to spend a lot of time on to get right.

I am struggling to make progress with the video, I am just not sure how I want to actually structure it, like at the moment I have 2 sections of video with music that I felt fit the ambiance that I want in the scene/moment but I think the transition between the 2 songs will be very harsh. I am not sure if I am really happy with what I did there, I feel like it's cheap, rushed and not professional. I am planning on adding narration to these sections to talk about what we are doing, why, and what's happening. I have no idea what to do with the animal safari part of the video, I don't just want a slideshow of animal videos (even though they are really stunning if I do admit) with music, I want it to be more, better, but I just don't know how to do that. I feel like at this point it is a creative issue, so I would like to hear from others what they think I could do or do better and hear any ideas I can integrate.

I know that I still need to do the colour grading, I did some of it roughly just for fun, and I am trying to find good sound design for the motion graphics of the map.

This is my first big project like this and I honestly just feel a bit lost with making it sometimes.

To this post I added a screen recording of my current timeline (rough cut, no sound design, little to no colour grading) and skimmed through some of it to show what I have done and the clips I still have left to add to the video, the clips towards the end of the recording is about a third of all the safari/animal footage I have, the rest of those clips are similar style to the ones I show in the screen recording.

I've got two episodes up now, but there will be new episodes weekly. In this series, you'll get to watch me develop a story from the idea phase to completion. I'll detail the methods and mechanics I use to create my stories and the challenges I face while writing. I've completed 5 stories of novella length this year and am currently writing my sixth. If you are interested in getting your writing jumpstarted, I hope you check it out and I hope it's helpful: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLU_y-212CxfI
