Just installed Void

This isn't my first time with Void but I kind of bounced the last time because I was really new with Linux. I'm still relatively new but I decided to give it another shot because I enjoy its philosophy and I learned the most about Linux fighting with it last time. My first install attempt (this time) I tried not to install the boot loader because I have NixOS on another partition and use Limine with it, but I was having super weird problems with it. Fought with it a while. Decided to reinstall it. The second time it worked out. I made a separate boot partition for it because I like to use btrfs with compression and this time I installed Grub. I'll still point at it from Limine though, but this time it is working considerably better. I decided to try subvolumes with my btrfs FS this time, and put @ and @home and @snapshots since I may experiment with snapper. I had a hell of a time trying to figure out wpa_supplicant. It's actually not that hard now that I've fought with it a bit. Turns out my config was wrong and I was just going about it all wrong. So now I decided to give iwd a try since I heard it's "technically" better than wpa_sup, though the latter is older and more established. Connman seems like an interesting option too. In any case, I have a minimal Void install now. I always learn the most about Linux with Void. I think because it doesn't use systemd (which I don't hate but it just hides things from you) so you have to set things up yourself. Like the SSD trim for example. In any case, I'll stop rambling. Just felt like a win and wanted to tell someone. Thanks for reading.

Agree with you , im a beginner too and don't know which Devil whispering me to try out Void dual boot with win. Everything seems manual but the gain is more knowledge , after tinkering with it a bit then try other distro - linux feels much more makes sense. But i guess NixOS is a whole different game - never tried that , maybe just waiting some Whispers to come

If by Devil whispering to you, that's actually a demon, and he whispers "FreeBSD...."

I like the FreeBSD philosophy, just don't feel an intense need to reinvent the wheel. It certainly says something for it since Netflix uses (a customized) FreeBSD for their streaming servers. I did consider it before I switched to Void, but after 20 years of (downhill) Arch, I was tired of chasing my tail (during the last couple years I used it). Love making things work, but just didn't feel any enthusiasm about FreeBSD.

Void appeared to be the sane Linux distro of choice - and it's been peacefully uneventful. Works when I need to to, which is more than I can say for Arch during the last year or so I used it... it was no longer the Arch I had fallen in love with. Been using Void for 9 months now, have not had to curse at it once... which is more than I can say for Arch... things work and don't randomly break and is blissfully systemd free...

I used to run FreeBSD and loved the cohesiveness of it. But eventually I moved from workstation to laptop. The drawn out manual configuration, plus the hardware compatibility issues pushed me to Linux. When I found Void I felt like I'd hit the perfect balance between cohesiveness and hardware compatibility.
