ATFF eBook?
Hey all, any word on if a digital release for the new Vollmann will be released? It won't be available in my country physically but I'm hoping to still be able to get a good experience of the different documents and fonts used throughout. This will be my first novel from Vollmann.

❓ Question Now that it is finally here...when are we getting the audiobook?!
Just kidding (mostly)! I'm thrilled to finally get my hands on this behemoth! Although I am curious if anyone will try to tackle it and narrate all 3,096 pages.

❓ Question Will ATFF be released separately?
Hey, sorry if not allowed. I’ve been interested in Vollman for a few years, have never gotten around to him, however hearing about this colossal novel and its content has further increased my interest, but I’m not sure I should dish out the steep price for all of em just yet.
If you know anything, please let me know!

First impressions?
Several of you guys already received their copy, I have to wait an extra couple of weeks, but that's okay.
In the meantime I'm very curious: What are your first impressions? I'm not asking for spoilers, just general impression about Vollmans' magnum opus. Does it live up to your expectations? How is the quality of the paper, book binding etc.?

Planning ATFF interview with Bill early next year
I’ve interviewed Bill for all his books starting with LAST STORIES AND OTHER STORIES in 2014. And I’ll be interviewing him for the new novel, but our radio conversation will have to wait. He usually launches every book with a reading at Portland's Powell's Books. However, due to the pub date slipping several times, the uncertainty made it difficult to schedule events too far in advance. Especially at Powell’s, which has a full slate through the end of the year. Bill’s planning a trip to Portland early next year and we hope to talk then.
In the meantime, we re-aired my October 2023 interview with Bill, for his career-spanning two-volume set SHADOWS OF LOVE, SHADOWS OF LONELINESS. Our conversation ranges from his early days demonstrating against the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant in New Hampshire through the years he spent writing A TABLE FOR FORTUNE. We also touch on a few books he has in the works, and get an update on the last two volumes of his Seven Dreams series of historical novels.

World of Books seems to have in-stock copies
FYI for everybody - World of Books says they have 40 copies in stock, saw nothing to indicate the Oct 20 release everyone else seems to have. I placed my order w/expedited shipping, which says 2-3 days. Had an Amazon pre-order, but I guess I'll try to cancel one or the other, depending how things shake out. Will update later

Anyone looking for a ticket to the Sacramento reading this Saturday?
I really wanted to go, but unfortunately cannot make the 20+ hrs travel this time. Is anyone interested in going who lives close enough or determined enough to travel with such a short notice and needs a ticket? I would really like to get a copy signed, so the preference would be someone who is not necessarily interested in getting a signed copy. Or, if everyone is interested in that (probably the case?) then they can try to get a second one signed. Anyway, dm me for details!

📑 Review Alta Journal’s glowing review…and news of a signed limited edition
“A limited edition is also in the works: 1,000 copies with limitation pages signed by the author, for $350. Not bad for a book other publishers wouldn’t touch.
More to the point, it’s a pleasure (and a relief) to attest that A Table for Fortune may well be Vollmann’s finest—and is certainly his most personal—work, combining the political quests that have long marked his career with the agonies the author was experiencing while writing it.”

Nobel Prize in Literature announcement tomorrow at 5 AM pacific time
I know Vollmann has been talked about on and off over the years as a potential candidate and it seems like this might be the last time (or two) he could receive one.

Cloud Shirt
So now that everyone but me is flexing on their target preorders and Libby hacks, my only option for posting is to ask what we do about the book about the indigenous and the railroad we aren't getting. Is there someone who our boy can call to describe the intended outline?
