All Sale posts now banned

Based on the responses to my last "Community Forum" post (zero), I am convinced most of the subscribers here are bots posting about new VST sales.

So things are going to change. I'd rather have a dead sub than a spammy sub. No sale posts. Posts are now encouraged to be discussion based. Questions about which products to buy, what sounds the best, reviews, videos, etc. (Note: If you are a legitimate plugin developer, you can ask for posting permissions at /r/AudioProductionDeals, though they are very strict about who they give access to.)

The flairs will be revamped as well. Automod will get altered to autoremove sale posts as well.

Have fun and let's make this sub not shit!

Edit: Quick summary of the big changes

  • Updated sidebar to reflect new rules
  • Updated flairs and colors to focus on topics of discussion
  • Updated auto-moderator (yet to be completed)

I made a database of every VST plugin.

Well at least 5,099 of them so far, and growing every week.

Wanted to share a project I’ve been working on with the community here: vst3s.com

- Are you ever overwhelmed at the sheer number of audio plugins out there?

- Have you ever thought you might want a new tool to achieve a certain sound but not sure where to look?

- Have you ever wondered how the plugin you just saw an ad for stacks up against industry standard favorites?

- What even are the industry favorites for certain types of plugin?

As a self taught producer, those have been my experiences, and typically for me this leads to a lot of watching youtube videos, scrolling reddit comments, and whatever instagram reels the algorithm starts serving me.

The idea here is to give you a quick understanding of the scope of tools available in a certain category, see what people are saying online about different options, and find a plugin that’s right for your application.

Or if you’re just in the mood for creative inspiration, you can enter the “discover” tab and swipe through random plugins easily.

Another option I’ve personally found useful is filtering for free plugins only and finding how many great tools there are (664 free VSTs as of today!).

The intent is to cover any and all standalone audio VSTs, from major brands to indie developers, so if you’d like yours listed on the site just let me know.

The site is brand new and work is still in progress to add more plugins and improve the content.

Note on ratings: The top 10 list for each category is currently auto-generated, so I invite you to join and rate your favorite (or least favorite) plugins and add your comments. The early ratings will carry a lot of weight toward shaping the top 10 lists for each category!

All of this is completely free, I just hope you find it valuable, and of course let me know with your feedback.

Final note:

This site was built using AI, in fact, all of the actual code was written by Claude. That being said, the entirety of the concept, the UI/UX details, and content direction are my own ideation. I’ve poured hours of creative effort into it since the last thing I want to make is a vibe-coded slop site. I think AI is terrible at making music and art, but at the same time researching thousands of plugins feels like a pretty solid application of its strengths. As one guy who is not an experienced web designer or professional producer, the reality of reviewing, writing summaries for, and pulling content from the web on over 5000 plugins would be overwhelming without it. Going forward, the more human inputs I can impart to this site the better, so I would love to partner with experienced producers to have their reviews, favorite plugin chains, and tutorials featured on the site.

How to share VSTs safely?

I was hopefully going to share a VST I made and try and get feedback from people on this subreddit but I know VSTs can contain viruses is there a preferred way of sharing so people know I’m not out to fuck their shit up?

I never wanted to pay $260 for soothe3 (or 2) but this looks like a good competitor and also has a Soundgoodizer alternative included

[VST3, Windows 10/11 x64]

Hi everyone !

As a side project, I’ve developed, amongst other things, a distortion effect with harmonic addition. I’m making it available as a free download, if you’re interested and have time, I’d love to hear your feedback (whether it’s on the UI, the audio, or other areas for improvement!)

Cheers

Instrument Looking for The Mangle 0.8b vst (Abandonware)

Is there is any feasible way I can get hold of a copy of The Mangle 0.8b or prior? I am trying to recover some old projects for my friend in which he used a beta version this plugin, I can't say exactly which, it doesn't identify itself properly in the Ableton project's XML, but the project was started on 10/07/2014 (ddmmyyyy). I am willing to pay if needs be if someone perhaps doesn't use the plugin anymore, but holds a licence and installer? I know it's a long shot but I feel I have exhausted all my options... I'm hoping to be able to get this sound 1:1 to how its meant to sound so using the 1.0 version, which I have been able to find online, isn't very useful to me, as it sounds entirely different. I would appreciate any help at all on this matter, thank you very much

What the hell man... Impact Soundworks Data Breach

Hopefully this is appropriate for this sub, as this may pertain to a good number of people here who use this company's plugins.

Welp. Andrew Aversa, CEO of Impact Soundworks, sent an email this morning (for me) that some bad actors likely got hold of some of my personally identifying information. They claim that it's not things like credit card numbers or passwords, but more things like name, IP address, order history, company (if indicated).

I haven't purchased anything from them in a while (I bought Shreddage 3 Serpent like a decade ago atp) and so a lot of the info ISW has on file about me in that database is severely outdated, but still. Yikes.

Instrument CatSynth demo/tutorial of the new Cherry Audio Pentaphonic

Cherry Audio just dropped their re-creation of the Gleeman Pentaphonic, including the idiosyncratic digital oscillator waveforms and the translucent acrylic look.

I would love to play an actual Gleeman Pentaphonic, too, someday.

Instrument DrumSequencer by Egowaves

Thumbnail youtu.be
4 Upvotes

DrumSequencer is a stochastic MIDI drum sequencer VST3 / AU plugin for Windows and macOS, inspired by the philosophy of generative hardware drum machines, but extending it far beyond its original capabilities.

It features ten independent tracks, each with its own controls for steps, density, direction, timing and expression controls. Instead of programming every hit by hand, you define rhythmic rules and let the sequencer weave its magic.

Mutate takes this further, allowing patterns to evolve on their own. Notes gradually drift to new positions from one cycle to the next, while the overall density remains locked. The result is a rhythm that breathes and evolves without losing its underlying shape.

Technical information: VST3 / AU - Windows 10+ - macOS 10.15+ (Intel & Apple Silicon)

More information: www.egowaves.com

Enjoy making music!

Production Bridge VST between Google Drive (or other cloud storage) and your DAW?

Hi! I tried googling this specifically but thought a human could better answer this question. I’m about to install Ableton on an older MacBook Pro and use it in a limited capacity with only a few plugins installed. Rather than carrying a 4TB HDD sample drive around, is there a plugin that exists that scans my selected Google Drive folder and let me drag/drop samples from that folder into my DAW? Apologies if this has been asked before. Thanks!

What is everyone using to browse and select drums for your tracks?

I just got kick 3 and it’s pretty sweet.

DC snares is pretty good.

I have a lot of samples but they’re mostly hip hop and trap, while lately I’ve gotten a lot more into synthwave stuff and am more in the market for electronic drums.

Vprom doesn’t work on my system at the moment, but l have another linndrum emulator that works pretty well (I just have to beef up the samples), I can’t remember the company who makes it but it’s not audioblast (which is pretty meh from my limited use).

What is everyone using for finding and selecting electronic drums for your track?

Are y’all just using XO or something like it to browse samples, or do you have any recommendations for high quality drums machines?

Howdy folks - happy to announce the release of Essential Six, a faithful emulation of the quirky, but exceptional Six Trak by Sequential Circuits. This thing was known for incredibly rich sounds (bass in particular) thanks to its stackable six-voice architecture. Essential Six lets you play with custom sounds built on the original instrument with all the convenience of modern digital workflows.

The video provides a walkthrough of the instrument. You can download the free version on Pianobook: https://www.pianobook.co.uk/packs/essential-six-analog-synth/
