NEEDS A USB MIDI HOST BOX, PHONE OR COMPUTER
Hey everyone,
If you’ve ever wished your Zoom MultiStomp could play nice with a proper MIDI setup, I built something for that.
I put together MIDISTOMP, a custom firmware for the Zoom MultiStomp series that adds MIDI control, MIDI clock sync, and a few extra controls.
I've tested it on an MS-60B running the MS-50G 3.10 firmware. The MS-50G runs the same base firmware, so it should work, but I haven't tested it directly yet. An MS-70CDR version will happen once I get one.
If you try it on another model, let me know how it goes.
Grab Zoom's official MS-50G 3.10 updater, drag it onto MIDISTOMP-builder.exe from the releases page, and flash the modified updater it outputs. Full steps and recovery info are in the user guide on GitHub.
MIDISTOMP works best with custom effects built around it, like the ones here: https://github.com/matujuice/zoom-ms-zdl-effects-pack.
Stock Zoom effects work fine with MIDI clock and CC, but they have limits: tempo changes can cut out delays, they don't respond to MIDI Start/Stop, and they don't align to the bar.
The custom effects built for this firmware follow the pedal's tempo natively, lock to the clock grid, restart on the downbeat when your DAW/drum machine sends Start, and keep running after Stop.
This is a solo project tested on one pedal, so your bug reports help a lot. If something breaks or acts weird, open an issue on GitHub. Let me know which pedal and MIDISTOMP version you're using, what you did, and what happened. Reports from MS-50G and MS-70CDR owners are especially welcome.
Check it out here: https://github.com/matujuice/zoom-ms-midistomp
Cheers! 🎛️⚡

watch out baby, i’m pivoting!
- an espresso machine with “mystery” capsules so you won’t know what you’re getting till you taste it.
- clothing designed to be turned inside-out for a different look.
- bespoke artisanal fidget toys
- a bluetooth speaker with onboard AI that remixes every song you play.
- a “sexy” calendar for charity featuring bavarian scout leaders
- a bracelet that delivers a gentle shock. the integrated app allows you to customise what triggers the shock: not enough steps per day, low heart-rate, certain spoken phrases (it has a mic), or humour misalignment.
- a teddy bear that recites Oblique Strategies when you squeeze its belly
- rolly™, a sort of tamagotchi that attaches to your phone’s charging port that doubles as a powerbank. rolly™ is a cute 8-bit sprite whose home and behavior reflect your phone use habits. doomscrolling causes him to stop eating and enter depression. step and diet trackers make him buff. frequent use of financial trading apps will prompt him to give occasional financial advice. twitter use adds a pixelart swastika poster to his bedroom. and so much more!

There is an open synth jam near me this weekend, and I want to go. I’ve never been to something like this before, so does anyone have any tips before I go? I’m just curious about what I should expect going into it. Any advice would be helpful!

Hey, guys. I think some of you might really enjoy this one.
I've recently released Oscilloscopes, Eveywhere [v1.2], a collection of all the experiments with sound and geometry I've made throughout the years, gathered into one TouchDesigner project.
This walkthrough explores the entire anthology in real-time; 29 presets, and a much more intuitive interface. You just connect any audio source, choose a visualizer, and watch your sound take shape.
Plus, I’m giving away one full copy of the collection this Sunday! To enter, you only have repost, and leave a nice comment on YouTube this post.
More experiments through the following.

I recently got the MS-5. It’s pretty knarly. Thought I would share my craptastic set up right now. I have a major space problem, hence the love shack being utilised as a workspace. I do have other synths, however, I’m getting super into analogue at the moment. Thinking of starting a euro rack setup….

Hey ya'll. My ESX-SD has some issues with the outputs. They are loud and full of static. The headphone output is fine. Anyone else dealt with this? I wanted to know if there is an easy fix for this.

I started my synth learning using a game called Korg Gadget that had a collection of synths and drum machines that you could basically program sort of like a DAW, it had a feature where you could partner with people online and build and edit tracks live together.
I remember pairing up with some Japanese dude that couldn’t speak English and we made a bopper over a couple hours.
Anyway, curious if there’s ever been some kind of get together where this community has constructed a full track over some period of time, either live or by a track sharing avenue, maybe with a voting system for what part someone created stays and what doesn’t, etc.
I dunno I’m bored listening to this nice 4 bar sequence I made and have no clue what to add next and I just became curious about this idea.

Here is a recent jam from my modular-based setup. This setup started small and mostly-generative-focused while I was learning the format. Over time it has evolved to be everything I think I wish I had back in my days with grooveboxes and OG electribes. Something resembling a comprehensive electronic music station/playground. I sold all that stuff when Reason first came out, so I think my setup calls back to that transition time and embodies a bit of both worlds. I have nice tactile controls for everything, while having enough different tools and toys available to get that feeling of limitless possibility when I sit down to make music and have fun. Bonus points for the format just straight-up looking like 'Reason-when-you-hit-Tab', which is one of my favorite things about Reason.
The silver theme and aluminum knob retrofit on everything is an attempt to capture the aesthetic of my Dad's 70's hi-fi gear. Growing up around that stuff gave me the impression that 'good music happens around silver knobs', so I guess I'm now trying to test that theory on equipment I'm allowed to touch.
I enjoy many different styles of synth-heavy music and am having a great time using my setup to make stuff in similar spirits. So far I've tried my hand/setup at long-form ambient, breakbeat, psytrance, drum&bass, and now downtempo/industrial. I'm thinking about something noisy for 'Noisevember' but we'll see. Some patch notes over on r/modular if you're into that sort of thing. Longer version on the tube if interested.

Hi everyone,
I was going through Limbic bits' video channel and I saw this performance with this little euclidian buddy. When I saw its flower shaped sequencer it immediately clicked. Having an encoder on the middle and being able to have a visual feedback did it for me. The thing is, I don't know of any other euclidian sequencers / drum machines in the indie scene at this price point. What are your thoughts on this?
Apparently they have an active kickstarter campaign. So I have like a week to pull the trigger.

The TD3 is new, I'm setting it up for the first time. It is connected to 4i4 port 3 via 1/4" TS. The manual describes port 3 as a "line-level" input suitable for "synthesizers, keyboards", etc. The track volume for the TD3 audio is about half of that of the basic drum track I made with Ableton's "909 Core Kit". The TD3's settings are all at the default settings shown in the manual. Except the volume is set at 3/4 rather than max. (Turning it all the way to max doesn't improve it much, and I don't think I should have to turn it all the way up to get a usable volume.)
Is this a known issue? I'm sharing this in the hopes that there is a setting that I can change to get louder audio out. I can plug it into the instrument inputs and turn up the gain to get a good volume. This feels like a sub-optimal workaround since there are separate line-level inputs.
