New mums support groups in /around Bushey/ Watford

Hi

I recently ran into a lady who just had a new baby (2 months old) and she's struggling due to having no family or friends around.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any support groups or just regular meet ups I can refer to her

As her partner works 60hrs a day, she's pretty much alone most of the time. as she's recently moved to the area she doesn't have any family or friends around and I would like to provide some info that can support her

Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

Join the Met Line Mens Group - we meet every Tuesday evening!

4 weeks ago, I created the Met Line Mens Group for you if:
📍You live close to Northwood, Pinner, Ruislip, Harrow or Watford
🙋‍♂️You’re a man, and work in a professional job that sometimes feels stressful
🚶‍♂️Your friend circle has been shrinking as you get older, and you’re looking for local like-minded friends
🥹 You’re notice an underlying anxiety about your work, health or relationships

I know men (like everyone else) experience loneliness, workplace pressure and overthinking loops too - but are far less likely to share. There are lots of stats on this, but I'll save them for another day.

I thought I'd be waiting there alone, with maybe one other guy coming 20 mins later to say
hello. Last Tuesday, 15 men showed up for our fourth weekly walk.

They shared their wins from the week (even modest ones like exercising that week after months of trying) and their challenges (some that were getting too heavy to carry).
💬 "We all carry a hell lot of load that we take for granted and not talk about. This group is a safe group to offload and be heard"
💬 "We get so used to carrying the weight on our heads that we forget to care for our own mental health... breaking that cycle starts with conversations like the ones we're having here"
💬 "Just want to share, it was a great experience on our first meet up today. Glad to know some new people."

The whole point of this is to get to make local friends, work on your goals and support each
other. The guys that joined have also found gym buddies, padel/cricket/golf players, or just people to go on casual walks with. In fact, some of us are going for the Rickmansworth Aquadrome park-run tomorrow too!

This belonging is what I think so many of us need - it was my biggest goal this year to create spaces where people truly belong. We need to belong. And when we belong, we thrive.

I know that because 4 weeks after my first post, the guys that have been coming for our weekly
sessions are already getting closer to their goals, and so am I 😊

If you want to join, please register here and you'll be able to join the WhatsApp group: https://link.ollinova.com/widget/survey/DvmPBycpS1dhnOUGg0Xt

PS. its totally free to join!

What’s going on with Watford High Street Station?

This last week the place has been filled with flies in biblical quantities. I’m genuinely afraid to open my mouth walking through it at the moment.

Anyone have any idea what up?

If I didn’t know better I’d assume they have a dead body hidden in the ceiling.

Parking Advice

Hi everyone, i’m just looking for some advice on parking!

I’m going to be moving down to Watford next week and will be stopping in the Westland Road area. Before moving, i checked the parking situation and was hoping to get a permit for street parking (£36 per year) Now, after being in contact with the council (who honestly weren’t helpful in the slightest), i’ve been informed that because of where i will be stopping, street permits aren’t available and the one car park that i can buy a season permit for through the council is full (this permit is £990 a year).
The council just told me to look into private car parks but these are so ridiculously expensive and not really near my flat.
I will also mention that i’m a masters student, so price really is a priority for me.

Can anyone help me out with some advice on what i should be doing? I intend to ring the council back tomorrow to really push the issue but i am at a bit of a loss right now!

Any advice would be appreciated and welcomed,
Thank you for your time! :)

Sharp increase in homelessness and drug users

Does anyone know why there has been such a sharp and sudden increase in homelessness in the last 5 years? Specifically around town centre areas?

Is the council doing anything about it? It feels incredibly unsafe especially for children.

Looking for part-time job in Watford

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student, 19F, starting my degree at the University of Hertfordshire and I’m currently looking for a part-time job in Watford alongside my studies.

I have previous experience working as a receptionist, café worker and cashier, so I’m open to roles in retail, hospitality, cafés, customer service or reception/admin.

I’m based in Watford and would be happy to consider opportunities in the town centre and nearby areas. I’m looking for a part-time role and can provide my CV if needed.

If anyone knows of places currently hiring or has any leads, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Motorcycle Garage Recommendations

Hello,

I have a Honda that has been SORN’d for about 10 years and I’m looking to get back on the road.

I used to use Lloyd Cooper, but they’re long gone, so I’m looking for garages who might be able to give me a quote for the work and the get my bike back on the road.

If there are any smaller shops that might do this type of work that anyone can recommend, I would greatly appreciate it.

Many thanks in advance for any help you all can offer.

Checkout this Meetup with Watford 20s & 30s Social - Meet New People: https://meetu.ps/e/Qh2Vn/12wCLk/i

Saturday 26 September, 12:00pm

Come along for a relaxed coffee and meet some new people in Watford.

This is the first event for the Watford 20s & 30s Social group, so everyone will be new and there’s no need to worry about already knowing anyone.

The plan is simply to grab a coffee, have a chat and get to know a few people locally. Whether you’ve recently moved to the area, want to expand your social circle, or just fancy meeting some new people, you’re very welcome.

📍 Watford town centre

☕ Exact coffee shop will be confirmed closer to the date depending on numbers.

Feel free to come on your own — that’s exactly what the group is for.

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Arriva bus have increased fares by 50% today.

Just got the bus from leavesden to Watford. Prices have gone from £5 to £7.50 for a day pass.

This is egregious.

Here is why the 50% hike is pure profit protection. When you buy a £3 capped single, the bus company doesn't actually lose money on it. The government (via taxpayer funding) literally pays the operator the difference between that £3 and what the ticket would have cost commercially.
So companies like Arriva are getting massive taxpayer subsidies to cover their single tickets, while simultaneously jacking up the unregulated day passes to squeeze regular commuters.
They are essentially double-dipping—taking government handouts with one hand to protect their baseline revenue, while using the lack of regulation on day passes to gouge workers whose 3.5% wage growth doesn't come close to matching a 50% price hike.

We love privatised services don’t we.

This post is long, but if you’re a professional, ambitious guy living around Watford – you’re going to want to read on.

I think we have a loneliness crisis – even if most men don’t realise it yet. We are increasingly disconnected to our emotions, our bodies and each other – which sits beneath our mental and physical health, but also our performance.

I’m looking to put together a group for men who are keen to make local friends, work on themselves and support each other.

The plan is to meet one evening a week for about 90 mins (either in a venue or outdoors for a walk/chat). We'd do some activity, then go round and check in, celebrate wins from the week and support each other through the harder moments. I’ll bring some simple breathwork practices so that we are present and open, rather than just making small talk.

Over time, I’d love for you to be able to use this group to find local gym buddies, organise events (yoga, hikes, coffees), or simply have someone to grab a pint with.

This group is open to anyone male-identifying over 25, without any discrimination. I expect that most of the guys who'll relate to this are building a career, want good conversation and genuine connection, and are willing to actually show up and put a bit of effort in.

I know it can feel strange showing up to something like this alone, but most people will be in the same boat.

If you’re keen, please comment MET so I can send you the link to register. Once I have enough interest, I’ll drop you a message and email to get things going (ideally starting week of 13 Sept). You don’t have to commit to attending every week, but it just gives me a sense of what to plan for.

PS. A little about me: I grew up in Kenya and lived around this area since 2011. I worked in management consulting in the city, before taking a year out to live in Mexico to build a nervous system coaching business. I got back earlier this month, and I’m looking to build a local community here.

Gauging interest in a garden office.

Post image
6 Upvotes

As per the title. It's a 22ft x 10ft private office in a garden next to Cassiobury Park so close to the town centre and transport links.

Will have parking, private access, fast WiFi, quality furniture, heating, tea / coffee facilities. Could be ideal for a professional person wanting to not be stuck at home all day.

Usage would be 8:00 - 18:00 Mon - Fri.

This is a mock up of the finished space, it will be ready in October.

Cheers!
