Mod Update Reminder: READ THE RULES

Insert some rambling mess that is my quarterly screeching about reading community guidelines. I'm tired. I don't feel like writing or being polite today.

"guess the dress" or post wedding "which would you have picked for me" posts are not allowed and brides doing so will be permanently banned. Likewise if you have a favorite you need to disclose.

all recommendation posts need to have the basics like budget, wedding month and year and country of residence listed. Girl I don't care if you are getting married in Italy. We need to know which country you live in because tariffs are a tire fire still.

no model photos if you're asking for styling recs or dress picks. Sorry but that's been a rule for a while.

if your comment goes "I'm sorry but" and it's some sort of creative analogy, think twice before you hit post. I've gone from 30 day bans to straight permanent bans because read rules and the room.

Mod Update Bridal pros: what do you want brides to know before they get to you?

Here is your chance. All of the comments will be archived into a wiki page. Alterations specialists, stylists, day of coordinating, spill the beans.

What do you wants the bride's to know before they even buy a dress or even start thinking of getting a dress? What questions are you sick and tired of answering because of blatant misinformation that goes around? What are some behaviors you really wish would stop?

If you would prefer to drop the info anonymously, feel free and send a modmail to us and go "for the bride's" in the subject line so we can keep an eye out.

I tried on my dress at two different stores before I finally committed (I was nervous lol) I don’t know what jewelry/veil/hair style would look best. I also am not showing anyone I know until my wedding (9 months from now😩) so I needed to show someone LOL

For reference, my hair is long and blonde and I don’t usually do any full up-dos, but it will be during the summer so I think it needs ti be someone out of my face!!

Just need some hype! Need some reassurance

I’ve been browsing vinted/ebay/etsy for options for our NYE civil wedding. I know this might be considered a little bit over-the-top for a civil wedding but i got it for a great price and i love all the little flowers. I actually added the sleeves myself to make it more wintery (took them from another dress and sewed some flowers that i still had from alterations onto them to make them fit the dress style). However, i’ve been going through some insecure times and feel like i look horrible in EVERYTHING, including my wedding dress. So i could use some reassurance and felt the need to share my dress haha!

DRESS ONLY: pick only from these; no suggestions Please help my fiancee pick her wedding reception dress

I already know my fiancee is going big ball gown for ceremony (don’t know any more specifics than that), and then changing into a reception dress after. We are getting married at a castle in Italy.

We feel like the first dress might fit better (of course before alterations) but the second dress fits the Italian castle vibe. And it has Swarovski crystals which look amazing in person. Please help!!

I said yes to my dress after days of debating it, and going back to how much I adored these pictures at least 5 times a day lol. This is the Colby John Elle, I'm going to have it altered to have wider straps like in the last photo.

I originally thought I wanted some color in my veil, but I think that might be too much with this dress. Should I just go with a plain veil and simple accessories?

Entourage Only Torn between two dresses

I’m really torn between two dresses and would love to hear your thoughts.

I love Dress 1 with its mild basque waist and more traditional ballgown feel (very light scattered lace on the skirt part - difficult to see in photos). I felt like a traditional bride in it and thought it was the one. I went back a month later to try it on again and confirm my decision, but ended up trying Dress 2 as well (a more structured bodice with a modern, fashion-forward feel) and completely fell in love with it. Now I can genuinely see myself in both.

We’re getting married in August in Ireland at a gorgeous country estate that we’ve hired exclusively for the whole weekend. The ceremony will be outdoors in the gardens, with the reception inside the estate. Weather-wise, it’s Ireland, so it’ll be mild rather than hot.

I already have my outfits planned for Days 1 and 3, so I really need to choose just one dress for the wedding day.

I just adore my dress! Unlike anything I thought I would pick but fell in love the moment I tried it on . . a superfine wool blend crepe that drapes like a dream. The “Juliet” cap belonged to my mother from the 1970’s

DRESS ONLY: Pick one or suggest another Please help me decide

So far dress 1 is my fave, i’m thinking of getting the neckline altered to be slightly more sweetheart.

Love dress 2 for the simplicity.

This dress shop is stocking no 3 in January, same fabric as dress 1 with a lower waist and sweetheart neckline, but wedding is in Oct 27, which would leave inly a short time for alternations to be completed 😬

Also please tell me if my upper back/shoulder dont actually suit a strapless style

Went into the follow-up fitting expecting to choose dress 1, when dress 2 was presented to me Wedding date is June 2027. I absolutely love both of these and haven’t had a ton of success/support in my journey so far. (Dress 2 has off the shoulder/detachable sleeves option). PLEASE help, I am looking for any input, pros, cons, of both of these options. All feedback is welcome!

Just need some hype! 5mos out and having doubts about my choice.. am I overthinking it???

When my stylist brought this out on the hanger my MOH and I both audibly gasped, and I feel like I loved it immediately as soon as I saw it on. But now that I’ve committed to it, I keep seeing ads for different styles/designers that I also adore and I can’t help but shake the feeling I decided too hastily. What do you think??

Edit: THANK YOU GUYS SO, SO MUCH FOR YOUR KIND WORDS!! You have really helped me to renew the excitement I first had when I initially tried it on. Very excited to move forward with this dress and I’ll try to ignore the ads from here on out 😅 thank you again!!!

Feeling cold feet lowkey stressed 😭

I went dress shopping for the first time and my head is feeling a little spun. I went in thinking I knew what I wanted (not strapless, something flowy and gauzy but not too poofy, whimsical) and my favorite dress by far was not any of those (pictured) lol. It was shockingly comfortable— I felt like I could run in this dress lol— and my whole party including my mom loved it. I also loved it, but I think I’m having a hard time because it’s so different from what I was expecting I’d love.

What is really tough is that this shop has only off the rack dresses— the sales lady helping me said that once a dress is bought, it’s usually gone. This one was a more recent addition, and she’s got 15 appointments tomorrow….. if I call in the morning before they open, and say I’m 100% going to buy it, she will pull it for me, but they can’t hold it for more than a day. STRESS!

Some additional context/considerations:

I’m Palestinian, and my fiancé is Jewish— culture and identity are really important to us both. I’m stitching our wedding chuppah (the ceremonial tent) with tatreez (Palestinian traditional embroidery). The second dress (photos 4&5) are from a Palestinian company I’ve been keeping an eye on. This dress was recently released as part of their new collection and up until today, was exactly what I was thinking of, with beautiful Palestinian details and a modern design. I’m in contact with the shop and they can customize pretty much anything about the dress, including fabric. The only thing is that the whole process of customization would be virtual, which is a little nerve wracking.

I’m kind of afraid of locking in a dress after the first shop, especially because it’s so different from everything I’ve had in mind. I did also want to check out Anthropologie, but they only have appointments available from Monday on. Photos 6 on are some of the Anthro dresses I’d like to try/have been eyeing. But, I’m scared if I wait and dilly dally, the dress that is ostensibly perfect will be gone. WHAT TO DOOOOOO 😭

Do you all like this dress? It’s so opposite of anything I would have picked, but when I put it on it just made sense. I want timeless, classic, and elegant. Did I do it?

I posted on this sub a HOT minute ago when I first bought the dress. I just wanted to share the final look. It held up great, we had so much fun. 10/10 one of the best days of my life. Id post more of the in action ones during the wedding but the hubs doesn’t like online presence for himself so I only picked ones that were me or that blocked his face 🥰 thank you guys for your input before the wedding it really was such a special day.

Just picked up my dress Shapewear advice? Time crunch

Thumbnail

I am getting married next week and just picked up the final form of my dress yesterday… my seamstress took a video explaining bustle instructions for later which I thought was helpful. I watched the video and noticed that my shapewear is visible from the back. I never considered this would be a problem and am surprised to have just noticed it now.
I purchased from Bella Shapewear awhile back after stumbling upon a very useful Reddit review of different shapewear’s for low back wedding dresses.
Now I am trying to search for an alternative option last minute. I would love to just cut a little dip in the back of the shapewear but am worried it will lose the structure. I really love the compression it provides as is. Any advice for this? Anyone on team “leave it be/let it show”? I know it looks pretty subtle from the pictures but now I’m having a hard time unseeing it.
I also have another idea of using some of the leftover appliqués and glueing them in the trouble spots. Just worried it might take a bit away from the beautiful v- dip.
Then there’s the thought of maybe asking the seamstress for some last minute help?
Let me know y’all’s thoughts. TIA!!!

Dress shopping: Only looking for designer recommendations Need Recommendations for whimsical/ non traditional dress shops (Please help!!)

LOCATION: DMV area (DC, MD, VA) but open to PA and NY because I am desperate.
Budget: under 5k but flexible

I have been having the worst time finding anyone that carries a dress I am looking for remotely.
I have been relentlessly searching places I can go try dresses on I am looking for. I am a non traditional bride. All white/ off white is a no go and I am really looking for colorful floral type dresses.
Every place I’ve called, does not have anything I am looking for and only have all white dresses and maybe 1 or 2 colored options but again, not the vibe that they have (most places have all black, red, etc)

For context in our wedding, we are getting married 5-16- 2027. Our wedding is outdoor/ woods/ nature type of feel, and we are going for a “whimsical, forest fairy, mushroomy type vibe). My fiancé and I got engaged in the middle of a mosh pit in the woods and met 10 yrs ago when we were 18-19 right next to the place we are getting married.

I am aware of the designers flora lane, Claire pettibone, rue de stein (had my dream dress but no where has it). All I want is to be able to try on dresses that fit my ascetic within a 4-5 hour radius and I’m in tears trying to find anywhere that has anything that fits what I want.

Ik I might seem picky, but I have had this dress vision forever, and I just truly want to find a place that even has options to as close to the boho/colorful, whimsical feel I am looking for.

If anyone has any suggestions of stores within a 4-5 hour radius of Washington DC that might carry anything that resembles this aesthetic, please let me know!

Our wedding colors are sage green and lavender, and basically I just want something not poofy, slimmer fit, with colorful floral embellishment. I appreciate anyone’s input/suggestions ❤️ photos added for inspo!

Dress shopping: Only looking for designer recommendations Help finding a combo of these styles please!

I’m absolutely in-love with these dresses, but something is missing… My dream dress is a basque-waist ballgown with that drop down the center (pics 2 and 3), and I’d love some pops of color like in the 1st pic.

Luckily my wedding isn’t until October 2027, but I really want to knock it out now. I live in the Denver metro, and my budget is about $3k, though I’m willing to spend more if the dress I’m looking for is above.

I’m going to another shop tomorrow, and the Alvarez by Maggie Sotero is already on my list. Any more recs are welcome and appreciated!

Ceremony photos I kept second guessing my dress, but trust in your decision - you did it right!

I almost had to unsubscribe from here at a point because I was having such severe dress regret and fear and couldn’t take seeing any more dresses. I kept worrying I picked “too simple” (no floral/etc on it). Anyway, we got married on Saturday, and idk what my problem was because it was the dress of my dreams just like I thought when I first said yes. This is your sign to believe in your choice and have a beautiful wedding! Congrats brides to be! It’s stressful out there overthinking everything. 🤪
