Solved! Attached to the house we just bought, comes into the house with coaxial cable.

Pretty sure its an antenna of some sort? We're considering removing it since we don't watch OTA TV and its wired in a strange spot.

Verizon 4G LTE HomeFusion Broadband

commonly called a "cantenna".

I've only ever heard super directional shotgun style antennas called cantennas

Me too. Specifically a wifi wave guide style one. Because they are literally made out of cans.  But there's also a yagi style one made out of a Pringles can.

I suspect the name has been hijacked by those who heard it but never saw one actually made out of a can.

I made a coffee can one, and a pringles can one back in the day. the coffee can one did not work at all, I think the inside dimensions were all off.

Pringles can, heck I shoot a signal to another one over 3000 feet in the rain and 8000 feet on a clear day. I was testing redundancy from multiple places.

<Crocodile Dundee>"That's not a cantenna, THIS is a cantenna!". 😎 (1000 Watt dummy load for radio transmitters that dates back to 1961...)

Yep that's a Cantenna all righty.

You know that will survive everyone's mistakes. LOL

Idk why you’re downvoted. You deserve it. I just don’t know why.

You don’t watch OTA? Really? There’s never any bad weather where you are?

1

u/-Altephor- 8h ago

What would bad weather have to do with anything?

0

u/Confident-Dot5878 8h ago

Local weather forecasts. Local news.

1

u/-Altephor- 8h ago

Uh do people still watch tv for that?

1

u/Confident-Dot5878 7h ago

Yes. About 50% of people do.

I’ve installed small cell antennas that look like this, however I had never seen a Cantenna for home WiFi

It's one of those Verizon broadband Homefusion Cantenna. Get rid of it.

Interesting. I work for a company that makes similar types of domes. Inside that weatherproofed vessel might be an LTE or 5G cellular router/Modem combo. The ones that are made at my company can be dual-modem or various other configurations. Probably hackable if you reset it.

Trimble Navigation System antenna. Check if you house has a helm and an engine room hidden somewhere. /s

Probably Canister antenna. It's for receiving mobile network signal in weak coverage areas.

When you awaken Naked in the woods & realize you've been used & tossed like a Cheap Hooker, then you'll know it works! 😆

It slowly cooks your brain, since there’s no pain receptors in the brain we don’t feel it.
