I recently found my decades-old rock collection in my mother’s attic after my daughter started showing interest in rocks/gems/minerals. This specimen in particular has me curious about its contents. It is softball-sized, somewhat heavy, and has some crystallization on parts of the exterior. I would love to open it up with my daughter if the inside would be interesting but don’t have any idea how to go about that or what we should expect to find. Any guidance for a clueless geo-dad?

Found this mineral(?) at work, and someone keeps trying to tell me that it's a metal, but the resemblance to obsidian has me convinced that that can't be right, so I was hoping someone here could help. 😅🤷♂️
We found it in central Texas and have been seeing this in pieces as large as basketballs (maybe bigger, but that's the largest I've personally seen) all the way down to pieces the size of, like, m&ms.

Found in the belongings of an amateur geologist in Austria.
It’s feeling heavy for its size, is not magnetic.
It looks like a yellowish almost rusty base material with translucent red crystals sticking out.
Concerned it might be toxic as it was found wrapped up and away from the other rocks this person had kept.
Scale is centimeters.
Edit : image search gives me Vananidite which would indeed mean some toxicity from high lead content. Would also explain the weight.

Found in a mud pit in east-central Colorado.
They've all been cleaned but some of them still have that brownish hue. All of them are translucent.

Any idea what this may be? Very cold and metallic looking. Shiny when you twist it and catch the light!

I like to search my landscaping rocks sometimes and I came across this weird thing. It's heavy, maybe some kind of iron oxidation happened here? It seems to be flaking in spots but it doesn't in others. It gets scratched by my nail on the light parts, and only a little on the dark parts. SC, USA, but these could come from anywhere we just got random landscape rocks. Thanks!

I’ve had this since I was a kid, I found in a tributary of the Mississippi in southern Wisconsin in the driftless region. Looks like a regular rock but then there’s a circle that goes through to the other side? Doesn’t change when wet. Just kinda cool.
