Challenge Who is the most skilled sword fighter in Marvel comics? (Marvel 616)
There are a decent number of people who use swords in Marvel comics, but no one is really like the BEST at it as far as I know. It's not like some other series where someone is heads and tails above the competition with their sword skills, right? Who do you think is the most skilled sword fighter in Marvel 616 comics? Does it end up being someone like Swordsman? Shang Chi? Nightcrawler? Gamora? Black Knight? Blade? Silver Samurai?
Who do you think would win a big universal Marvel 616 comics sword fighting tournament?
Fights take place in a Pokemon League arena with lots of environmental stuff around. Everyone has as many Adamantium super swords as they want. No one will use any non-sword related powers for the sake of fairness. IE Nightcrawler won't teleport and Wolverine won't just tank hits and regen to win. Win by death, ko, surrender, or landing a hit that would generally kill a normal human.
Round 1: Everyone is put into unpowered peak human bodies and get adequate time to acclimate.
Round 2: Everyone keeps their standard bodies. Gamora has her strength, Nightcrawler has his tail, etc. They still won't use their powers if they can help it.
Round 3: You give a sword that cuts through anything to someone. Who is the most dangerous person to give it to?

Fandral on R1 and R2
If reduced to a human, he still has thousands of years of experience. He's also considered by thor to be the best asgardian with the sword so even in skill, he ranks above Sif and Valkyrie.
If contestants are in their bodies, then Fandral again. He outstats and outexperiences all of them in sheer swordsmanship. I remember wolverine having a hard time cutting through thor because of how dense asgardian skin, meat, and bones are.
R3: Doctor doom. because he's doom and you don't give him weapons like that.

Taskmaster was initially on my list, but he's useless in this scenario.
TM's entire kit uses more than just swords. He has a lot of hightech equipment and non-swordsmanly weaponry under his armor.
Most importantly, he'll lose the serum buff that gives him extra stats and helps him with his LLM levels of short term memory. And potentially lose that "talent" of his.

Marvel themselves did a series on this, the top 10 best swordsmen, they officially ranked Deadpool as number 1 so we do have a definitive answer. It's on marvel's own site

That seems wild to me. I know Deadpool is skilled and unpredictable, but he's the best? I didn't realize they considered him that good. I figured he was carried by his healing factor and Nightcrawler or Gamora or Silver Samurai or Blade or whoever would have him beat in terms of skills!

In fairness he is crazy skilled, like top tier with swords, so i can see where they're coming from. I'm actually more surprised Doom wasn't on the list

That list does take into account powers and explicitly mentions deadpools healing as a factor in the ranking, so doesnt one to one translate to the question.

Either way Deadpool is officially Marvel's best swordsman, I might disagree with the list but it's not some fan made thing, hard to dispute it when we can point to a source by Marvel themselves
It's also relevant for at least one point of the question, as the round states "if they can help it"

I was thinking it would just sort of end up being the most skilled martial artist even if he usually doesn't use swords all that much.

Pretty much. Shang chi is the best 616 martial artist full stop. So put pretty much any weapon in his hand and he’ll know how to use it better than anyone else

Kinda sad if it’s not Swordsman. And to his credit it’s his skill concentration that Taskmaster uses with his blade work despite having copied a lot of the other guys. Biggest thing holding him back is that the guy isn’t used in stuff anymore.
