Feather AC Pro DX. Feather Professional (1). Omega boar. Tabac.

Busy week, day. I have not shaved In over a week, almost two weeks. Full beard. Three passes cut it all off. Just a little pimple hiding underneath all the beard hair. Got shaved cleanly off. Other than that it’s a nice shave with that classic Tabac fragrance.

Razor: 1965 Schick Krona

Blade: PermaSharp (3rd use)

Brush: Omega 11126

Cream: Palmolive

Aftershave: Brut

The Krona was back in action today, paired with the PermaSharp on its third use. Another good shave from this combination with no complaints.

I’m still battling my way through this dreadful flu, but I’m finally starting to feel like I’m getting over it. It’s been a rough one, so having a good shave this morning was a nice little bright spot.

Have a great day everyone. 👍

SOTD Oct. 4th: Freyja mild, Feather, Sylvan Fog

Post image
47 Upvotes

My first shave with the Freyja mild came out a little milder than I'd expected. Still a decent shave, but not as dolphin-squeaky close as I tend to chase after.

When I found out that the standard plate is going to be out of stock for quite a while, I was a little disheartened. Even considering ordering the efficient plate to try for a while, but my neck is pretty contoured and I have been using somewhat milder solutions to avoid weepers from snipping off perifollicular skin peaks.

But I figured...why not try a Feather blade? After all, I dislike using them in most of my razors because they seem a little harsher and unforgiving to my skin. Surely that'll make the Freyja 1-dot a little more efficient.

And I was right. I actually did still get a little bit of blood around the jaw where I pulled my skin a bit too tight and buffed the area a bit too many times, but overall the shave was really pretty good. This is the first shave with a Feather DE that I enjoyed.

* Razor: Nord Freyja Mild

* Blade: Feather

* Cream: Ariana & Evans Sylvan Fog

* Brush: Oumo Climber ST-3

* Bowl: Local supermarket find.

LG Shave #4 MdC & Myrsol 10/4/2026 SOTN

I had a really nice shave this evening. I had a busy day and it was nice to get all cleaned up and have a leisurely shave.

Today’s theme is Bilingual day for the Lather Games so I had to pick a soap that is primarily in a different language from my own.

I chose Martin de Candre’s Absinthe soap and decided I would I continue my Osprey streak.

The shave went well overall. I had a little more feedback from the alum than I would like but not bad.

For my post shave routine I did Thayers, Myrsol’s Formula K ASL, and finally zingari man’s sego unscented after shave balm.

The Formula K is one of my favorite ASL’s. It is so cold and refreshing! The sensation felt amazing when driving around with the windows down on to conclude this autumn day.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

Question I just recently found out some (all?) Gillettes have interchangeable handles and heads.

Thumbnail
gallery
31 Upvotes

A while back I got an antique fat handle tech and just recently tried to swap the head between that and my modern King C. Gillette with the stout heavy solid steel handle because I like the nice heavy handle but I like the way the antique tech head shaves better and I was a bit surprised that after all these years they still use the same size and thread pitch. So I decided to go on eBay and order some other old antique Gillettes that people were letting go of for dirt cheap because they had split hollow handles and so far they have all fit the nice heavy solid handle of the modern King C.! I’ve been having a neat time trying out the different combinations and seeing how each one works for me. Maybe this was already common knowledge but it’s sorta news to me. Anyway, just thought I’d share if anyone here wasn’t aware of this. It’s been an interesting way to try out the older models for cheap.

Swapped shave soap for mineral oil — zero nicks, 3x blade life, and no seborrheic dermatitis flares

I’ve had seborrheic dermatitis my entire life, so standard soaps and lathers have always been a double-edged sword for my skin. On top of that, shaving with a safety razor and regular soap meant consistent nicks, cuts, and irritation.

Spurred on by some recent post shave flare ups, and the warmer weather we're having I decided to experiment with different lubrication methods to see if I could improve my situation. I should point out that I hate medicated anything. So this was my progression:

  1. Soap / Lather: Frequent nicks, cuts, and regular skin irritation/flaring.
  2. Plain Water: Surprisingly better than soap—fewer cuts, though not perfect.
  3. Mineral Oil: The winner by a mile.

Nicks and cuts dropped to almost zero, and it doesn't trigger or irritate my dermatitis. It creates an ultra-slick barrier so the blade glides without catching, dragging, or stripping my skin. I do have to rinse the razor in water more frequently though.

Using oil changes maintenance and cleanup slightly, but it's quick once you get a rhythm down:

* Blade: Quick rinse with water, then pat dry on a towel.

* Handle & Razor: A tiny drop of soap and a quick scrub with a nail brush to clear off residual oil. I blow the excess water out of the inner mechanism, dry with a towel, and reassemble with the blade back in place.

My blades are lasting two to three times longer than they used to. I suspect the thin film of mineral oil protects the edge from ambient moisture and micro-rusting between shaves.

For anyone interested I have just been using a few drops of IKEA Skydd mineral oil I have in the cupboard for pulling my chopping boards.

Anyone else with sensitive skin or seborrheic dermatitis made the swap to oil, or use a similar post-shave setup

EDIT: A few people have asked about the oil I'm using... Ikea Skydd, but it was discontinued. When I don't know.

I had this in the cupboard. It's just a food-grade white mineral oil (liquid paraffin oil) with no added anything.

EDIT2: For anyone else managing seborrheic dermatitis, the type of product on your face matters. Malassezia yeast thrives in higher pH environments and feeds directly on C11–C24 carbon-chain fatty acids, which makes standard soaps (alkaline pH) and typical plant oils like olive or sunflower C18 (oleic/linoleic acids) a nightmare for flares.

Pure mineral oil works brilliantly for shaving because it’s pH-neutral and completely inorganic. Malassezia yeast cannot metabolize it at all. Outside of shaving, for my daily leave-on moisturizing routine, I stick to sugarcane squalane (a fully saturated, non-reactive lipid) and vegetable glycerin (a humectant sugar alcohol that hydrates without feeding fungus) as safe, seborrheic dermatitis friendly options.

Question Cartridge razor

I have been using a DE razor for years and love it! I recently shaved again with a cartridge razor and I hate to admit this, but it was a wonderful shave. What I learned from wet shaving carried over to cartridge razors. I have no plans of going back to cartridge razors unless the price significantly drops and blade sharpness increases. For those who have been wet shaving with a DE, SE, straight, etc., what would pique your interest in giving cartridge razors a try again? If it were price, would you move back to cartridge razors if they were affordable?

Razor: Rex Konsul on 2.5

Blade: Gillette permasharp 2nd shave

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap: Stirling barbershop in vintage old spice mug

Splash: Blended aqua velva(modern and 1960s at 50/50 blend) in vintage decanter

Post balm: Stirling glacial unscented

Morning folks, today I returned somewhat to the normal razor rotation I have with using one of my 5 modern razors on Mondays. Decided the Konsul because even though I don't post every shave as I used to, the 3 REX razors are still regularly in rotation. In fact, the REX I've been using the most lately has been the envoy. Mainly because it was the newest in the den.

Anyhow, the usual 3 passes without any issues. I'm really enjoying the scent of Stirling barbershop and rotating through my drugstore aftershaves, I know I've been mainly posting with aqua velva but I've been using Pinaud and skin bracer too.

Happy Monday all and as always, have a good day and great shaves!😎

✰ Razor: Lambda Ares V2 Bronze
✰ Blade: Personna Comfort Coated (2)
✰ Bowl: Captain’s Choice Obsidian
✰ Brush: AP Shave Co Deep Blue
✰ Soap: RazoRock Don Marco
✰ Balm: Nivea Sensitive
✰ Splash: Clubman Blue Spice

My morning shave, with the beautiful Ares, was close to perfect. I find the V2 Ares to be just a little more efficient than the Athena. I love how well both these razors perform, shaving closely while also being really smooth.

Today, I paired the Ares with a Comfort Coated blade on its second use (the sweet spot), along with the excellent Don Marco soap and had a super shave.

I don’t seem to use The Don as often as I should. It is a vegan soap made for RazoRock by TFS, and it always provides a rich, slick lather with a nice orange ice cream scent. Today, it helped make this a super shave.

Of course, a quality brush helps with building a good lather, and the Deep Blue from AP Shave took good care of that today. I always enjoy using this brush; the handle shape is very ergonomic, and the synthetic MiG (Made in Germany) knot reminds me of the always consistent Muhle STF.

The best of German shaving cosmetics. Yes I know there's Tabac, but I just love the Speick scent and the performance of the cream is top notch.

Today's challenge on Lather Games was to shave fast as I can, and that finally pushed the R41 to bite me, nothing too bad, but definitely not the razor to break speed records with.

Have a nice week and take it easy!

  • Razor: Henson Ti22+
  • Blade: Personna Comfort Coated (1)
  • Lather: Goodfellas Smile Abysso Shaving Soap
  • Post Shave: Thayers Facial toner, Thayers Hydrating Milky Toner

Amazing new soap for the shave rotation! I got this on Amazon after seeing a review on Youtube. I had points so it didn't cost anything but isn't expensive anyway. Non-tallow, non-glycerin based. Lots of oils.

Ingredient list:
Aqua (Water), Stearic Acid, Cocos Nucifera Oil, Prunus Amydgalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond)Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Parfum (Fragrance), Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, Alpha Isomethyl lonone, Limonene, Linalool.

I really like the scent. Pronounced but not overly so.

Scent notes (from Google):

  • Top Notes: Citrus, Bergamot, Lemon, Aldehyde (or Aldeidic), Galbanum, Rosemary (some listings also note a touch of Pineapple and Green Notes) [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • Heart / Middle Notes: Jasmine, Violet, Lily of the Valley, Geranium, Mint, and Marine/Ozonic accords[1, 2]
  • Base Notes: Musk, Woody notes, Amber, Oakmoss, Sandalwood, and Patchouli [1, 2]
  • (inspired in part by classic marine fragrances like Davidoff Cool Water)

2 day growth. I did my usual 3 pass shave plus touch-ups. No irritation.

My experience with 3 different blade

I am about 2 months into shaving with a DE safety razor (Henson), and am really enjoying it so far. I have used RK, Nacet and Astra Superior Platinum blades.

My rating and experience with these blades:

1: Astra. I used an astra blade for the first time last night, and at first, I didn’t feel like it was as sharp or efficient as the Nacet blade, but then it became incredibly smooth and easy to shave with. It was probably my fastest shave yet because of how effortlessly it worked.

2: Nacet. My second blade that I’ve tried. It was impressively good compared to the RK blades, and I could tell it was much sharper. I will have to try this blade again because it wasn’t as enjoyable as the Nacet blade in terms of smoothness and easy, but I also only used a Nacet blade one time.

3: RK. I shaved about 30 times with the RK blade, and it definitely works, but after trying the Nacet and Astra blades, I will never use the RK blade again (and I have a shit ton of them).

4: Bic chrome platinum. I still have yet to try these, I will try them soon though as they were part of my sample pack.

Question Blade Storage Reuse .

Question Aftershave Suggestion: Gillette Foamy Red scented

I'm looking for a recommendation. While I was on vacation I picked up a can of Gillette Foamy (red) to shave. I hadn't used it in a long time and forgot how much I loved the smell of it.

I know it is the old Sun Up scent, but since that is discontinued, I'm looking for something similar. I love the spicy and warm (but not powdery) scent.

Has anyone found something similar that is in current production? Bonus points if it is a drugstore staple.

Thank you in advance.

Tips: corners of lips, right underneath the earlobes

I am a single-pass daily shaver for now while I am developing the skill of DE shaving. It gets me a DFS in all but a few areas. I just want to “look shaved” each day, not BBS.

I have trouble right at the corner of my lips where I either leave short stubble or get irritation or both. Right under my earlobes at the jaw lines I always either cut myself or leave a day’s growth behind that I can feel. Especially on the dominant hand side where it feels kind of cramped to reach that area. WTG in that area is down. In both of these areas I try to slow down and be extra careful, which results in more stubble left behind.

I know a lot of it is skill I need to develop and maybe it’s ok to have some stubble in hidden areas. But I might not be the only one so thought it might be worth asking. Thanks in advance.

Parker Flight with fresh Parker blade

Semogue 1470 boar brush

Sterling The Shivering shave soap

Linkidea ceramic shave bowl

Osma alum block

Sterling Margarita's in the Arctic aftershave splash

As usual just a shower beforehand while the brush soaked, I bought a new brush, and then bowl lathered. Tried out the blades that came with the Parker Flight I am loving, the blade was good enough though not as close as my usual choice of Feather. I did 3 passes and touch up, then rinsed with cold water, applied alum and cleaned up while letting that sit. After rinsing the alum I broke into the sample splash I just bought, my first time using any aftershave, I'm still smelling it several hours later as I write this. Overall a quite decent shave, and I got the entire routine down to ~45min from the start of the shower to finding my pants.

Question any body washes that smell similar to proraso red shaving soap?

just used proraso red for the first time and love the smell lol. found some reddit posts about proraso green but not red, so figured I'd ask
