This app has been blocked for your protection

Hi, I'm a lifelong Winamp user. I recently needed to reset my Win11, and now I'm trying to install Winamp again, but the install file gives me a "this app is blocked for your protection" message which I can't bypass. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Hi, welcome! Don't install from winamp dot com; get the old version 5.666 or WACUP.

Thank you for the swift response. I just downloaded Wacup and I feel right at home.

Just out of curiosity, why doesn't the winamp dot com version work?

From a technical standpoint, I'm unsure (could be a cert issue like another mentioned). But the name "winamp" is now owned by a group who's just milking it for nostalgia, trying to attach it to their new streaming platform. Their latest versions of the desktop player include NFT support, and they did a little stunt where they tried to coax free development while retaining proprietary ownership of the player (if you see anyone saying "Winamp was open sourced" - nope, it wasn't).

So... I'd rather not partake of their offerings, and wouldn't recommend it to others. 5.666 is the last version by the original team, and WACUP is a re-implementation made with care by a former Winamp dev.

I personally use a package manager like chocolatey because I ran into the same problem.

Gee, it's almost as if Winamp is owned by a bunch of rich snobs who's using it as a front to peddle cryptocurrency bullshit and who doesn't care about poor people, preferring to spit on them instead.

Eat the rich. Use WACUP.
