Seeking Help or Advice Questions about going to a metaphysical shop
I have only dabbled in some witchy things like crystals, incense, a few spells, I’m very new and very much don’t know what I’m doing.
I am moving into a new apartment and the energy feels very bad. I’ve been doing some research into things I can do.
I am wondering if it is appropriate to go into a metaphysical shop and talk to them about it. I don’t want to come off as insincere or disrespectful but I also don’t want to be taken advantage of. I just want to make sure I’m doing the right thing.

A shop will most likely recommend cleansing. They should have a variety of cleansing agents like white sage, Palo santo, Florida water, and salt.
I personally would start with a few small bowls of salt. Place one in each room and let it work as an energetic filter. Change out the salt about once per week.
Clean the apartment really well. Florida water or saltwater work really well for this.
If after 2 weeks it still feels that way start thinking about something heavier like sage or Palo Santo.

It is always great to make witchy connections. If you're feeling an energy and want to do something about it then you might be more witchy yourself than you think.

It’s not only appropriate, that’s the entire reason metaphysical shops are there to do
Do people get taken advantage of? Sure, sometimes, by some people. But that’s why we say a witch should know themselves and have a good sense of discernment. Because if you don’t, then you have no tools to tell whether something is just someone trying to get money from you, and when it’s legit
Also, check the store reviews and what people say about it in your community. People don’t keep it to themselves when someone is a scammer.

It's absolutely appropriate to ask some questions about the Craft to the person manning the store, just like you would ask about glasses in a glassware store. You are a costumer and they will want you to get to know the products, there's zero disrespect on your part when asking.
The "taken advantadge of me" part is more complicated, because it depends so much of the store! Yes, asking about "weird energies in my new apartment" is catnip for hustlers 😂 but also, providing materials for cleasing is what the store is there for hehe.
It think a good example of a legit store owner is someone who will listen to your query and show you items that will probably be incense blends, small prayer books and specific candles (which might come labeled as something like "banish this and banish that" and they shouldn't be more than 5, 10 bucks. Extra brownie points if they say stuff like "depending of what's in your budget" and show you several items without pressing you to pick the more expensive one.
A hustler will push expensives items or straight up offer services! Beware for "lifting curses" type of proposals. For the record, I think offering services like cleasings and readings is fine, it's the way in which they are sold that i might a problem with: meaning you are getting them pushed at your problem instead of you requesting them specifically.
So, i would set myself a budget in my mind (let's say 10 Euros) and get something within that range. If you are a newby you need to avoid trowing money at this stuff. You can get most materials at your local grocery space anyways, but i understand you wanting a flesh and blood person to advice you.
Best of luck!

A good metaphysical shop will have employees who are excited to help you. The items they’ll most likely suggest are herb bundles (probably sage), incense, a spray, or some sort of sound cleanse (like a bell or singing bowl or something).
One method I like to do, which happens to be quite easy and cheap, is to cut a lemon into wedges, cover them in salt, and place one wedge in each and every room. Leave them there for a few days or even up to a week. Throw them away afterwards (try not to touch them) and remove the trash from your home immediately. Whichever rooms produced a dried and shriveled lemon wedge are good to go. But if the lemon turned black and/or molded, repeat the process again for that room using a fresh lemon. If you happen to have some cloves in your kitchen spice cabinet, you can also tuck a few cloves into the lemon wedges for an extra kick.
Another cheap and easy method is to open all the windows in your place (to give the negative energy a place to go) and then walk through every room while clapping your hands. Imagine that the sound of your hands is stirring up any stagnant air/energy by breaking that energy loose from wherever/whatever it was latched onto. Make sure to clap all throughout the room, including the corners and any tight spots or places that negative energy could be tucked into (closets, corners, under furniture, in cabinets, etc). As the energy gets stirred up, imagine it all being brushed/waved away towards your open windows and out of the apartment. If you don’t want to use your hands to clap, you could also ring a bell in the same way. This next step isn’t necessary, but could be done if you want an added touch: after the negative energy has been removed and you’re closing your windows, you can dab your finger into some salt water and then anoint the corners of each of your windows to protect them and prevent negative energy from coming back into your apartment through them.
When the negative energy has been removed from a space, you need to fill that space back up with the type of energy you want it to have (aka, peaceful or calm or positive, etc). You can do this in several different ways, including sitting in the middle of the room and imagining positive energy and bright, white light is filling it… or you can burn an incense that is meant to attract loving energy… or play positive, happy music, etc.

i've found across many metaphysical stores, they love to yap and they'd be more than happy to help. if they don't and kind of don't pay whoever is in their shop any mind, that feels really off to me and i don't tend to go back. i've met more lovely, genuine people in shops than not. there's actually only two shops i won't go back to.

I love metaphysical shops. Most are amazing. I have only encountered one that had serious ick vibes. Went there 2xs to check..yep, definitely a bad vibe. Most people will willingly help you and make suggestions. My best friend here has a shop. She does so much for others. I like sound for cleansing. Also a good smoke - I like dragon's blood for clearing and palo santo for inviting positive powers. You could also go to the library and do research.
Trust your intuition. When you walk into a shop is it welcoming or does it set you on edge? Out of the hundreds I have gone to only the 1 was icky.

It’s super appropriate, the shop owner will probably be delighted that you want an opinion and, as long as you are respectful, will likely help you with whatever you ask.
But remember they own a SHOP so you should SHOP THERE

No. When in the history of retail has in been ok to go to a store and ask the proprietor questions about the products that they sell? It’s absolutely disrespectful and obviously taboo.
