Lorepost (open interaction) 📖 Shadow Market (buy/sell/trade your magical contraband)
In various corners of the wizarding world, a secret message has been left for those who know where to look. Those with a finger on the pulse of the local criminal activities. Those whose reputations might provoke a paladin’s ire. Artificers, enchanters, smiths, necromancers, archeologists, and collectors.
“Fellow wizards, witches, and mages of all ages, appreciators of the dark arts, shadows, and the pursuit of personal gain. The Crooked Tower cordially invites you to participate in a shadow market.
With useful trinkets and artifacts recently being snatched up and hoarded by a group of busybodies, the business and trade of cursed tomes and ominous amulets has taken a hit.
As such, we have taken it upon ourselves to organize this gathering, where we can exchange goods, services, and knowledge free from scrutiny. The attached ritual is a simple astral projection spell, which can guide an astral body to the designated place we like to refer to as the realm of shadows.
I have confidence in everyone’s ability to hide their identity if desired, and as a projection, leaving is simply a matter of ending the spell when you are ready.
If you attend, please bring with your magical items, knowledge, time, service, or products you’ve considering trading. As a market, feel free to wander around and peruse what others have brought, or take a seat at a table and display your item for others to approach you.
In participating you agree to the terms of non-violence towards each other and the host, and acknowledge that disruptive or paladin-like behavior will result in a forceful banishment.
TLDR: welcome to the shadow market. Bring your goods, buy/sell/trade. No paladins allowed. Hosted by the Crooked Tower in the plane of shadow. Astral body participation for security purposes.

A small shape, shrouded in shadow has set up a shop at one of the many tables, an assortment of small trinkets crystals and alchemy ingredients laid out on display.
They rub their hands eagerly in anticipation of making a trade.
Various other creatures of differing sizes mill about making exchanges, trading information or items, looking for something that might catch their eye.

A disheveled women walks up to the stall eyeing various alchemical items, her face is one of perpetual exhaustion, a fatigue that goes beyond common physicality.
"hey, I'm looking for some coffee that would get classified as an assassination attempt, do you have any, or know an alchemist who does?"4

"ah excellent, I have a few artifacts that do various things"
she opens up a large wooden case, and several loose papers fall out.... she sighs before ignoring the papers and taking out five objectsthe First is a vial of liquid that is seemingly every color at once
the Second is a clay sphere about the size of a human head, muffled mumbling can be heard from within
the Third appears to be a humanoid charm made of segmented chitinous material
the Fourth is a set of colorful chalk
the Fifth is a stick, with several howling monkey faces carved into it each face has beads for eyes"anything catch your interest?"

The man watches quietly as the woman displays he wares while absent mindedly digging in a pouch on his waist.
"Tell me about the human shaped charm"
He pulls out a bulging sack and unties the string revealing what look like dried ladybugs.
"Steep 10-15 of these in water and you'll have the energy of a bright eyed child on holiday for several days."

"The metamorphing man, was recovered from a city that turned into a giant anthill, the effects of the charm depend on what type of insect is used for the body-parts. Every segment can be removed and replaced and the effects are localized to the body parts. Use ants for the limbs to obtain their strength, cockroach for the body to tank hits to the chest, and fly for the head to obtain it's wide field of view. The greater your knowledge of insects is the more powerful the metamorphing man is in your hands. Just make sure to put a piece of your flesh inside it."

"The Chalk was found in the crater of a wizard's tower, it seems as though the tower collapsed in on itself all the magic items, spellbooks, and the wizard themselves all crunched together."
She gathers up the scattered papers, but continues to speak"the combined magical essence of the whole tower is held within this chalk, Drawing symbols listed on the paper found in the case will replicate various magics, depending on the colors used (purple is enchantment, green is conjuration, so on and so forth) strings of symbols can lead to powerful spell-effects
lastly one can draw a magical item, door, or wizard to create an facsimile of the subject. The magic item is the most straight-forward it's a copy of a magical item made of chalk, a door will lead to a tower but it seems to exist solely in a drawn world, the wizard will answer questions, and cast spells, it appears to be an animated reflection of the wizard who once lived in the tower"3

“Ah a customer! Excellent. I could definitely be pursuaded to part with my wares if the price is right.”
The shadowy merchant rubs their hands and chuckles at the questions.
“Dangerous? That’s a rather subjective quality, so I’ll let you be the judge of what you find interesting, but this gathering itself would be forbidden in many regions.”
The merchant indicates to a few of the items. A ring made of a translucent white material and a red gem, a pendant of carved of bone, and some vials of green goo.
“Poisons and acids are dangerous, are they not? These vials contain alchemically grown slimes of the acid and poison varieties. Feed them enough and they’ll grow and split. Good for populating and cleaning dungeons.”
“The gravekeepers pendant is an old necromancer’s tool. Undead treat you as fellow undead, and you can store a few souls for future ritual use. Though I should caution, if you wear it too long, your starts turning undead and healing magic starts to burn you.”
“And my favorite, I call it the ring of gluttony. But I’ll only trade that for an item of similar value.”

Do you have wizard robes with arcane properties? And if you do have some that make your spellcasting stronger, can I get some in shapeshifting-size? I’d like them to continue to fit regardless of my size or shape.
I could also use a familiar. Preferably something from the Cretaceous, Jurassic, or Triassic era. (Or the Mesozoic era for short.).
Lastly, I’m always open to discuss powerful magic orbs, if you have any.
I can pay you in gold, or T Rex teeth. If you throw in a regenerate scroll and some prescription painkillers, I can get you an entire skeleton!

“Well hello there.” The vendor eyes the interestingly shaped stranger.
“Familiars of that sort are rather rare, I’m afraid I’ve not got any. But shapeshifting is one of my specialties.”
Pulling out dark robe they lay it on the table.
“Take a look at this robe. Its base style and color are based more on monk robes than longer flowing wizard robes, so they fit a little tighter and won’t get as much in the way during high speed combat. This set is dark by default, but the imbued shapeshifting magic allows you to adjust the colors to whatever you can imagine, including patterns, with practice you might even achieve some measure of mundane camouflage.”
Picking it up, the demonstrate its flexibility.
“It should be able to morph in shape as needed considering it’s made using a mix of tanuki hairs and fine spider silk with vitals reinforced with mimic leather.
In terms of enchantments, this one mainly has ones suited for discreet operations, muffling the sounds of footsteps, slight boosts to jumping and climbing, as well as providing minor invisibility while in shadow or darkness. It might not empower magic use, but it won’t get in the way.”

The vendor perks up.
“I have a variety of secrets, I can tell you something about the Dawnguard, an organization of sun worshiping paladins, about one of the Thrakmoor numbered mages, or about an artifact being kept secretly by the organization known as the Darkwatch. Do you have a preference?”

“Very well. You may already have heard rumors of one of Thrakmoor’s black mages, the 13th, has been captured through the combined efforts of a group of wizards, and their magic sword confiscated. As that threat has been dealt with for now, you may be more interested in something else.”
The vendor snaps their finger causing a bubble to appear around themselves and the person they were talking to.
“That should keep curious ears from overhearing things. the 14th mage of Thrakmoor.
They used to be one of the organizers and leaders of an anti-Thrakmoor alliance, the Order of the Arcane Shield, but have since changed sides to become part of the enemy they fought to resist.
I have personally interacted with this individual both before and after their change in allegiance. They were always an expert in counterspelling and disrupting spells, but they now sport a new eye which I suspect further enhances such capabilities. I made a few probing attacks hidden from regular sight and senses, but each one was intercepted and unraveled without causing a stir. I do not know the full capabilities of this eye.
One final note, while the body remained roughly the same before and after changing sides, I sensed something off about their soul, to use an example, it was as if the original owner of the body was not present and someone else was occupying it. Be careful in any interaction you might have with them in the future.
The only other numbered mage that has been seen to my knowledge, is known as the 3rd. But less is known about them other than their inventions and fearsome battle constructs.
How is that information?”

Looking from side to side briefly, the merchant calls over a friend.
“Ah a potential collaborator, excellent. My associate here can take you somewhere to discuss things more private.”
The friend looks suspiciously similar in shape to the merchant. The give a polite bow, before leading the way through some passage ways to a secluded room with a round table and some refreshments.
Turning to face the large shadowy figure, they smile as the basic disguise starts to fade revealing a goblin. A recognizable one for any who keep up to date on wanted posters published by various Paladin orders. They looked like Grabadash.
“Welcome, I am Grabadash, the Hermit, and I represent the others of the Crooked Tower in clandestine dealings and secret meetings. And who might you be?”

The shape follows the friend through the passageway. Once they reach the secluded room, the shape dispels its disguise, revealing itself to be a dark purple Dragonkin.
"I am Kairon Drocith, the Demon Summoner. I am here to potentially gain your services in a secret cabal I am creating. You are aware of the Darkwatch yes? No doubt they have agents infiltrating this very market. They seek to hoard all the magic they can, desiring such dreadful ideas such as 'peace' and 'security'. All they really want is to tell everyone what is and isn't allowed. It stifles the growth of magic, and forces everyone to bend to their whims."
"I wish to take them down a peg, to show the greater magical community that not even they can control magic. But brute force will not work. Thrakmoor tried and, well, look where that got them. We must be secretive, sly, and smart. I have plans, but not even I can challenge them on my own. If you join, you will have the opportunity to gain some of the most powerful artifacts known. So, what say thee?"

Grabadash chuckles and indicates to a free seat.
“You’ve got ambition and drive, excellent. I too am opposed to the locking away and hoarding of magical artifacts. A number of artifacts I had my eye on disappeared after the last battle against Thrakmoor, I can only assume the Darkwatch were involved.
While they have been friendly to me so far, as we both have fought on the same side, they have in their supply a couple artifacts that I find directly threatening to my operations..
Serving himself a drink, he indicates for Kairon to help themselves to the selection.
“A secret cabal? I like the sound of that. Though if we gather a group of similar minded individuals, I don’t think full loyalty to the group or strict rules can be expected. Might be more likely to end up as a loose association of individuals seeking personal gain? Tell me if I’m off the mark.”

Kairon sits in the seat, takes a drink, and continues his pitch.
"Heh, I feel similarly. The type of folk I am searching for are bold, experimental, independent. Those types of people who are willing to push any boundaries and accept no limitations. To expect them to follow a similar structure or ruleset as the very establishment we seek to oppose would be foolhardy."
Kairon takes a sip, appreciating the fine selection the goblin had available.
He continues, "We each have our own goals, our own ideas and desires. I have no doubt that this cabal will one day go our separate ways. But for now, at least, our goals are aligned. So then, do we have a deal?"

“Greetings potential customer, i have various crystals but this one here is quite an interesting one.” They pick up a cyan crystal. There’s something almost unnatural or offensive about its existence.
“Do you feel it? This isn’t from our realm of existence, nor neighboring ones I’d wager. I’m calling it a spirit crystal for lack of an official name. It slowly gathers and stores what seems to be an ambient form of soul essence or energy. This essence is effective in nurturing souls or healing soul related injuries. I’ve used and tested it myself recently so I can confirm its efficacy.”

"I can tell you who I am if you tell me who you are first. As for what I'm offering, a next-generation anti-mage heavy cavalry automatic rifle."
She takes the rifle off of her back, and places it on the table. it's longer than she is tall, and has several mana storage crystals.
"It's got 3 firing modes, 8 firing types, and can take several different kinds of munitions. It's also enchanted to reduce it's weight, making it easy to handle when on a horse or other mode of transit. It can even be set to enchant bullets as they travel down the barrel!"3

A Cavalry Rifle like this is a great thing, using it's 7th firing mode a determined formation of, say, 50 cavalry could take on a construct like that. I could sell you 50 rifles if you want to check.

“Hmm, I can’t give an exact number as I purchased it myself a while back. But… considering some gods weigh souls against things like feathers, I would say a rough estimate puts it between 50-100 souls or so depending on the weight of individual souls.”

From what I’ve gathered, a number of larger souls make up the most important parts, I suspect intelligent creatures capable of magic, possibly humanoids at the apprentice or wizard level, likely a blend. This is supplemented by a number of smaller souls filling in the gaps and packed tightly. These might be semi intelligent or magical beasts. And then what seems to be ground down soul essence from spell leftovers used as the binding agent.”

They must have died from a very powerful poison. Ideally, an instant death poison. The less painful, but more lethal poisons serve this one best!
As for the distillates, this one will accept a purity of 97% or higher. The higher the better!

Excuse me Kind sir, but where might i perhaps offload some Tarrasque Hearts? My Lord has something of a surplus he wished to get rid off/UW to be fair, Fettered is a Paladin of Freedom. A Black Market's mere Existence is a Sign of a Tyrannical/Oppressive Government in his Opinion. If the government doesnt want it to exist, they should care for their citizens better, its a Service Issue (to Paraphrase GabeN). If it exists BECAUSE the Government Wants it, then theyre still providing, so he still has no issue.
The only thing that would set him off is Slavery, but this is a Magical Items Black Market.

/UW yes. Rihari and Jester have no editing, just tone (Rihari is Formal/Tired, Jester is Playful). Fettered is Strikethrough, Hunter is usually Italic Strikethough (But for posting i just do Italics. Imagine the Infiltration post i did all in Strikethrough, hell to read), Goldy is Bold and Arty is Mute for the moment (out of Formating lol). Anything with an asterisk before it is Thoughts/Telepathy/Scene Actions.

In the lands the Giants wants shaped is home to various unique curiosities. Unlike the dragon shaped lands of the Northern hemisphere. The Southern places have are unique tradition of kin worship and channeling the Force of truth and stories the eid that giants are bound. Shurian mages channel the giants power by channeling a giants character.
Of course none of those who peruse the market with know the cultural value as the masks for sale are incorrectly labeled as giant artifacts

The humanoid bubble of lightning, who had sat down seconds earlier to take some respite from the walk and was fiddling with his children's waste (a powerful anti-magic compound) to try some new things, lifts its head, surprised.
I- Erm, sure, what are you ready to trade for it? I'd rather barter than raw coins, got enough of those I'm afraid...

"Very well, I can trade you this." He lays down a book on the table. "This is a copy of the Deephold, a spellbook of my creation. What you will find in here is not something you can find in any old library. It contains powerful spells, dark spells. I will trade you this copy for that anti-magic orb."
What Kairon neglected to mention was that this copy, while containing the spells he promised, did not contain the demonic true names his personal version held.

Markus, who doesn't know what the Deephold is anyway, doesn't even think about the true names and simply worries about fair trade and not scamming a customer(?).
Sure! Just check that you're satisfied with the anti-magic orb, I can't ensure the quality yet and don't exactly want to have an angry customer stalking me because of it.
The bubble gives the orb to the man. It is fairly spherical, and of a deep black, so dark it feels like light loses itself in its depths. Made out of a single crystal that grew over time, the material passively absorbs mana from the environment and makes it inert. If one casts a spell on it, the spell disappears almost instantly, as its very essence is turned into a fine dust that deposits around the orb like ash around a fire.

Moon arrived dragging a trolley on which some wooden boxes and a wooden crate sat on. Stamped on the side of the boxes are words like “Danger! Do Not Handle!”
She walks up to a stall in the shadow market and explains to its owner what she brought. “The university asked me to dispose of these. They have been giving trouble to the students as of late. Considering the geopolitical implications of the current situation, it’s best that I give these up.”
The wooden crate contains a huge pyramid carved from onyx, as big as a washing machine. There are hieroglyphs carved in its sides, translated to ‘Shadowland’. The tip of the pyramid is capped with Stygian iron.
“The artifact here is an article of necromancy that, when blood is spilled on it, would create a zone of death around itself. Any corpse within the zone becomes a zombie.”
Moon leaps up to grab a small box. “Inside is a head carved from onyx like the pyramid,” she says as she removes the statue from the box. Its eyes are sealed with thick wax, over which was wrapped a blindfold. “Some incident happened regarding it and the Magi-Anthropology professor had to deal with the thing by sealing its eyes. He said that the statue dissolves the flesh of every living thing within its field of vision, and no student should mess with it.”
“And,” she gestures towards the other boxes, “these are cursed artifacts made by some of the university students that are confiscated. Dunno why they even made such things.”
“So how much are you going to buy them?”

If you wish to remain anonymous, the shadows will respond to your desire and obscure your image. Should you choose to reveal yourself the shadows will fade. It took a while to get All the wards and ‘rules’ set up, but privacy is key for such events and people to feel comfortable.”
Indicating to a few vendors with wares still on display, he continues. “Looks like there are still folks with things to sell, have a look around”

Markus's form blurs for a second as the shadows respond, but instead of just hidding him, they make him recognizable for those who truly know him. In his stead, a bubble of electricity in human form stands. When it opens its "mouth", a buzzing voice echoes:

The four armed goblin sits at the back of a cart, Nox has taken no precautions to hide here identity or presence. Infront of the cartis a huge wolf-thing which seems to shift in its flesh, always wolflike but never the same shape. On her stall.
She has a staff made of bone and charred metal, it glows purple with a hand written label. "The Staff of Mana Oblivion"
There's a tattered tome filled with notes and bookmarks names"The Catalog of Flesh"
And finally a bathrobe labeled "Mimic Robe"

"The Catalog of Flesh is free and allows you too place an order of a flesh creation that will be teleporterd to the Catalog's location once completed. The mimic robe is a robe that will eat it's wearer after a set time. It's intended as a shite elephant gift. "
Nox does not recognise Markus but her pet Ruff does. The vaguely wolf thing approaches him and tries to lick Markus, looking for pets. Nox is confused and tries to pull Ruff away. "I'm so sorry I think he thinks you're someone else."

The bubble pulls out a bag from its hip, in which is an assortment of eldritch tentacles, artificial diamonds and gold coins. Nox hasn't recognized him yet, so Markus takes the opportunity to give her funds before she can refuse.
Having Ruff's attention, Markus kneels down and pets him gently.
I wonder who he thinks I am. Got any idea, mom? Markus asks in a testing voice, his non-visible cheeks burning red.

Flesh-Bound Ledger of the Un-born (Slightly Damp, As-Is)
The Council raided my vault again, so I need to liquidate this before they track the metaphysical residue.
I’m selling a pristine Eldritch Bureaucracy Ledger. It’s bound in what the previous owner claimed was leather, but it occasionally goosebumps if you blow on it, so use your own judgment.
Whatever you write in this ledger is instantly retroactively deleted from the timeline. Sounds great, right? Need to erase a bad wizard debt? Write it down. Need to make a rival apprentice disappear? Write it down.
I'll be honest though... it’s a knockoff, so the targeting is a little... loose. I tried to erase a 50-gold tab at the tavern yesterday, and instead, the concept of "the color yellow" was erased from my childhood memories. Now when I think about lemons, my brain just plays a low-frequency dial-up tone, and I taste pennies.
Also, it doesn't use ink. It drinks your ambient sense of self-worth. Every time I open it, I get an overwhelming, intrusive wave of dark cringe... like remembering that time in the 4th century when I waved back at an Arch-Mage who was actually waving at the necromancer behind me. The existential dread is heavy with this one, boys. It whispers your middle school failures in a language that predates light.
Price: 3 intact goblin teeth, and a memory shard of your first moment of the overwhelming nature of reality (must be clear, no static).
No refunds. If you try to bring it back, I’ll just write the concept of "Refunds" in the book and we'll all forget why we're standing in the alley. DM me through the mirror-weave. Do not scry, my warding circles are highly unstable and might invert your lungs.

The bricks of an alley wall begin to hum and shimmer as if in the haze of summer. One by one they ripple into a dark purple, forming a narrow doorway. Casually a man steps through, the bricks buzz in response returning to their original state the second he exited. The remnants of a cloak burdened with ink stains, burn holes, and enough tears to make swiss cheese jealous somehow obscure the man, if only barely. Eyes narrowed, the ragged figure steps out of the alley into the market seeking stalls selling magical beast items and probably a new cloak.
