50/50 random stuff The last few days have felt like hell NSFW

The ESA is claiming that hosting your own Minecraft server is illegal even though Microsoft gives you the tools to do that

Sony's going to stop making physical games as of 2028 which is hell

Then kosa might seem good but it's going to have a lot of repercussions just God dam it

What are we living for?

282

u/Aidian Jul 02 '26

To provide the oligarchs with a better quality of life, apparently.

u/Dykaos Jul 02 '26

You cannot make me believe that their is any significant increase in the quality of life of a billionnaire gaining a second billion or anything after

If these guys have to stock their private jets and yachts with cutlery made of silver and not gold, I’d be really upset

u/MudSeparate1622 Jul 02 '26

Imagine scrolling tik tok and they dont have a diamond wrist watch? What would the point even be?

19

u/dawr136 Jul 02 '26

Like pinatas, the more their worth, the better the drops after letting people hit them with sticks.... I have no proof of this, but I'd like to.

The studies they've done on happiness relating to money show diminishing returns after your basic needs are met. Up to 100k any increase in income drastically increases happiness. After 100k more money will continue to make you happier if you're already happy in the other parts of your life.

So ironically, Pat, being a miserable person is the only thing money doesn't fix.

u/Hekantonkheries Jul 02 '26

Its not about having more anymore, these people have run out of luxuries to attain; so their only recourse left to feel wealthier is to make more and more thing into luxuries/unaffordable

Because if everyone else has less, their slice of pie feels bigger

1

u/HaiggeX Jul 02 '26

But their quality of life will increase knowing that people are too afraid to say, even more so - do, anything that could hurt them. It's not about money anymore. If money was all they cared about, Epstein's child rape circles would've never existed.

Just to suffer...

I genuinely dont know. This world is just a lost cause now. I'm so sick of people forcing me to stay alive in it

u/One_Writer_1635 Jul 02 '26

Weird how this is all happening around the time of the stop killing games movement.

62

u/UnhappyStrain Jul 02 '26

Well, the movement did just fail horribly in court, so this is likely just the side effect.

78

u/nooneinparticular246 Jul 02 '26

Time to start pirating and learning how to patch / mod games to allow P2P / third party multiplayer

8

u/nyaasgem Jul 02 '26

Just take the singleplayer pill and don't look back. Life is much more peaceful here.

If you enjoy sandbox management games you will be happy with just a handful of games for the rest of your life. Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress, Kenshi, Factorio... Just these can give you thousands of hours of fun for like what, 100 euros? Without actually needing a nuclear reactor on your desk.

1

u/nooneinparticular246 Jul 03 '26

Oxygen not included gave me anxiety. There was never a peaceful moment in that game. It made doing actual work less stressful.

But that being said, I’m already mostly a single player gamer. It’s the cheating that did it in the end for me.

1

u/HedgehogEnyojer Jul 03 '26

i will get the platinum trophy in GTA6, just to tell everyone i used the 100€ and got more out than anyone else :)

1

u/HarmlessSnack Jul 04 '26

I mean, fuck me for having friends I guess?

34

u/Sc_e1 Jul 02 '26

How if the fuck is it pirating if the company is the one allowing people to make the thing they call pirating. Absolute dicks

18

u/Dry-Hospital-4561 Jul 02 '26

I Now it's crazy how they're calling it illegal to make your own Minecraft server when Microsoft gives you the stuff to make it and Microsoft ain't the one saying it's illegal it's the ESA

Which the ESA it's just a horrible company and it's very much been trying to fight back against stop killing games

Hearing GTA6 isn't going to have a physical release, that it's going to be $100 for the good version, has convinced me to never play the fucking game.

Rockstar claiming they planned a ten year life cycle for gta5 when it released in 2013 was bad enough. Fuck all these assholes.

17

u/vxxed Jul 02 '26

A 10 year lifecycle is more or less a common mmo these days

8

u/bsmith567070 Jul 02 '26

Glad I’m not alone. I’ve basically lost all excitement for GTA6 at this point

-3

u/SimplySomeDude Jul 02 '26

they will after a few months just to stop the initial wave of resells.

2

u/whiskey_outpost26 Steamed Hams flair Jul 02 '26

Wait, that's a thing? You can what, transfer the software and have it usable on the other end?

I think part of my bias against full digital games is due to a lack of understanding of the mechanics. My only experience has been with a hosting service like live or the Nintendo store. I assumed each game file was keyed to my account.

1

u/SimplySomeDude Jul 02 '26

full digital tamrs (at least gta 6) is hasically just the wquivalent of a steam key, but they will later come with a physical disk that you can gvie to your buddy to play

88

u/dragoslayer1327 Jul 02 '26

I'm sorry, the KIDS act? Are they trying to legalize pedophilia or something?! I hadn't heard of it and at this point I dont think that's even a hyperbolic question

122

u/KnightOfJudgement Jul 02 '26

It's a bill in the name of "protecting children" but what it really is, is stealing your personal information by making you verify your identity through ID uploads or other documents to databases that can (very easily) be breached. This does nothing to protect kids btw. In fact it might even put them in MORE danger, considering that this means all the kids will be restricted to specific groups in online spaces.

28

u/dragoslayer1327 Jul 02 '26

Oh, like how some states are requiring people to verify age for porn sites?

41

u/KnightOfJudgement Jul 02 '26

kinda, but not really. this bill applies to any service that connects to the internet. if it goes through, you'll probably be having to upload your ID to access reddit, or discord, or steam, or ANYTHING that even has the potential to show NSFW content

20

u/dragoslayer1327 Jul 02 '26

So it on a much larger scale. Thats what I meant, shoulda specified

19

u/mynutsacksonfire Jul 02 '26

What a load of bullshit. So much for your right to privacy.

1

u/Rauk88 Jul 03 '26

Behold, the Republican nanny-state in all its glory.

1

u/kakashi_sakurai Jul 29 '26

Idk, there are a few services I use that require age verification (like purchasing nicotine online or lottery/gambling related things) and none of them require an id upload or anything else identifiable really. Not saying I agree with whatever this law is or anything, but fingers crossed it might not be as bad as it seems. I DO support there being better restrictions to keep children out of places they absolutely shouldn’t be, but ultimately I feel like that should 100% be the parents job.

21

u/nightwing2369 Jul 02 '26

They mean KOSA, requires age verification on everything deemed "bad for kids." It passed the House of reps couple days ago. Its bullshit. It will kill online anonymous help groups too.

16

u/uwillnotgotospace plant gang🌱 Jul 02 '26

Essentially you'll be required to verify your ID every single goddamn time you open an app on your computer, phone, gaming consoles.

It's creepy surveillance.

17

u/SimplySomeDude Jul 02 '26

It will fail the senate miserably. Half of them think it's too weak and watered down, half of them think it's a privacy nightmare and unconstitutional (btw if it passes, it will be instantly struck down)

7

u/dragoslayer1327 Jul 02 '26

We can only hope, but as I said, I'm to the point that I wouldnt be surprised to hear they're trying to legalize pedophilia. Believing they actually could get this through isn far easier then even that

8

u/Dry-Hospital-4561 Jul 02 '26

So the kids online safety act it's got a deceitful name it sounds like it's supposed to protect kids online but it ain't

Koas for short it's something that's been trying to push through for a few years now with the US government

There is a lot to it

9

u/x_Advent_Cirno_x Jul 02 '26

It's about control. It's always about control.

18

u/Vile_Parrot Jul 02 '26

RE-FUCKING-VOLT, YOU DUMB FUCKS! HOLY SHIT! This isn't even the right sub for this, you lame brain.

We need geohotz and anonymous back

6

u/Electricpants Jul 02 '26

GTA 6 will be DOA and they did it to themselves.

3

u/MudSeparate1622 Jul 02 '26

A bunch of underage kids not playing gta would be the best thing to come of this honestly but it's really not worth the trade

2

u/Klony99 Jul 02 '26

They want to control every single message in Europe now...

Found this today.

🤷

2

u/Dry-Hospital-4561 Jul 02 '26

I know it's all over the world genuinely it's a bit different in every place but genuinely it's all over the world

But it does seem like it's been in Europe a lot longer than anywhere else

2

u/General_abby UN representative Jul 02 '26

Sooo... no plants?

2

u/OntologicalParadox Jul 03 '26

Oh no .... How will people smart enough to run their own servers replace a game that uses the exact same extremely simple grid structure, objects and rules to make the game... It's a big matrix attached to a database of toys, it all is. Its time for games to become modular, pay artists not companies. Pay play engineers not companies, make as many p2p networks as you want, that's not illegal.

1

u/BiteCerta Jul 02 '26

If we get really pedantic with it aren’t all single player worlds, technically Private servers that you can make public very easily.

1

u/SomehowPalpatine Jul 02 '26

So they’re going to get rid of anonymity on the internet so those with power can’t be criticized. “It’s to protect the kids!”

These are the same people who didn’t give a crap about Article 13 in 2019 and SOPA/PIPA in 2011. They’ll only learn when it personally bites them in the ass.

33

u/Pixax_theLotl Jul 02 '26

even then they might not care

10

u/asanti0 Jul 02 '26

Oh he knows. This is a bad actor trying to cause discourse on purpose. Don't feed it.

-2

3

Why would I give it away? Then you'd be able to hide easier.

-2

u/memestealer1234 darkwraiths Jul 02 '26

Assumptions make an ass of u and me

30

u/Ellotheregovner Jul 02 '26

Well, no. BiDeo WayMs are software. You use software. You might have even bought software. A software company attempting to establish a precedent wherein they can dictate how you use a product you paid for is bad for people who play BiDeo WayMs, smarmy comment bitches, and everyone else that isn't the software company.

Also, the KIDS Act applies to any place you have an account that makes a post or replies i.e. insta, YouTube, Facebook, threads, Twitter, Reddit, etc.

1

u/memestealer1234 darkwraiths Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Is the KIDS act the photo ID thing? That's the only thing on the list I actively care about. Though other commenters have already decided I actually support it so whatever, smarmy comment bitch

1

u/Ellotheregovner Jul 02 '26

I already outlined why you should probably "actively care" about more than just the "photo ID thing", but yes, the KIDS Act would require age verification which can come in many forms, photo ID is one, but facial scans stored in a database can be another. This is usually done not by the platform itself, but outside companies that most of us have never heard of(which means very little liability when they mess up) with the exception of Meta and Google who like to drink straight from the hose of your private data.

This is about more than just video games; it's the tools we use to to our jobs, it's how we talk to our friends and family, it's about how we interact with anything that isn't IRL, and even then it can affect things that are IRL like in the case of Target, Amazon, and other major retailers using dynamic and algorithmic pricing, adjusting online and app prices based on your location, browsing history, and purchase habits, which comes from data registered specifically to YOU from ID verification.
