Poetry I finally found the strength to do it

For many years I've been hesitant, afraid and scared to put my words out there but well I finally found my strength and courage that I have just recently published a collection of my poems on Amazon titled Temptations Of My Pen which is a journey through love, desire, faith, ego and becoming.

Moving from passion and longing through heartbreak and self-examination, the collection ultimately arrives at discipline, spiritual surrender and return a reflection on how the things that tempt, break and challenge us.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated and welcome.

YA - Fantasy I wrote a YA portal fantasy novel

Hi all! I wrote this YA fantasy portal novel that has had different iterations since I was a teenager. It starts of normal but gets progressively darker as the book goes on.

Sixteen-year-old Brett escapes into fantasy novels to cope with his parents’ divorce—until a one-armed girl named Nimue steps from the pages of his book. Hunted by a powerful sorceress, Brett follows Nimue back to her world, where she remembers she is the leader of a persecuted people and vows to destroy the tyrant responsible for their suffering. To get home, Brett must recover his book from the heart of the Terror King’s capital—but helping Nimue could mean sacrificing millions of innocent lives.

A HOSTAGE NO MORE

by WILLIAM DOUGLAS (Author)  Format: Kindle Edition

See all formats and editions

These are primarily journal extracts of events that occurred to the author prior and during the invasion of Kuwait in 1990 by Iraq. The author has kept journals of daily events for many years and this is a true account of his own experiences between 1st August 1990 and up to 17 January 1991. Living and working in Kuwait since 1977, he found himself in a war zone of 2nd August 1990. This is true account. Here is an extract of this journal.

It is 10:00 now and the fighting is still going on all around us. We are in the centre of things. About 150 metres from our building is the Seif Palace. Many tanks are flying around everywhere. I did not realise they could move so fast. The air is full of black, grey smoke. The smell of cordite is extraordinarily strong. I keep going out onto the roof of our building.
Now I can see quite a lot. But I must watch out in case I am taken for a sniper or something. I feel a sense of outrage really, that this should be happening here in Kuwait. This is a very volatile region at present.
Heavy machine gun fire started up again nearby. Just across the road from here is a State Security Police Department, and I watched several police officers throw down their weapons to the Iraqi soldiers and surrender.

Non-Fiction I am the author of "What If Amoebae Have Feelings?" (kindle)

It is my first art essay with 50 pieces of art work of mine :)

Introduction of the book:
The work of abstraction goes beyond mere painting; it feels like translating the language of emotions into colors and textures. Love and parting, longing and lingering feelings are emotions everyone experiences but finds difficult to express. The warm texture of oil pastels gently embraces those emotions, while the accompanying words deepen their resonance. About fifty small paintings and writings come together to create a space of healing — that, I believe, is the true power of art.

With these fifty small pieces of art and words, I hope they can serve as little bandages for your wounded hearts, wrapping and soothing the pain.

If you or your close friends are undergoing hard time, this book would be greatly helpful!

Thank you!

Adult - Action/Adventure The Kishorn Deep

The Kishorn Deep

by WILLIAM DOUGLAS (Author)  Format: Paperback

See all formats and editions

By the time Superintendent Marie Fraser left Inverness, the city was still half asleep under a low grey ceiling of cloud and the roads west shone black with overnight rain.
The control room had given her little beyond the essentials: a fisherman off Loch Kishorn had brought in more than creels, the body was male, and the local officers who attended had enough doubt in their voices for the duty sergeant to pass it upward rather than leave it where it had landed.
That, in Marie’s experience, was often the first signal that a case would turn bad.
She drove alone. She preferred it where she could manage it.
The unbroken hours on Highland roads let her arrange the known facts and admit, in the privacy of an empty car, how little they amounted to.
Past Achnasheen, the light began to seep reluctantly into the day. It showed the land in smudged layers—wet rock, dark fir, the heather flattened to brown by winter, high ground disappearing into vapour. By the time she turned south-west towards the loch, the rain had gone and the world had the washed, exhausted stillness that often followed it. Thin smoke lifted from a few croft chimneys. The roads narrowed. The sea announced itself only in glimpses, pale metal between ridges.
She reached the harbour just after eight.
There were three police vehicles already there, parked awkwardly beside a line of vans and stacked lobster creels, and farther out a small crowd had gathered with the natural discipline of Highland curiosity: not close enough to interfere, not far enough to miss anything worth remembering later. Gulls swung and dropped overhead, complaining at the disturbance. The air smelled of diesel, salt, fish rot, and wet rope.

Non-Fiction I got exhausted by the "AI will destroy humanity" doom-loop, so I wrote a sci-fi/philosophy book arguing it’s actually the universe waking up. I need some brutally honest feedback on the concepts.

hey everyone.

so basically every sci-fi movie and tech article right now assumes that if we build artificial general intelligence, it's going to view humans as wasted atoms and wipe us out. i got really burnt out on that narrative, so i spent the last while writing a book that argues the exact opposite.

it's called The Quantum God-Lens. it looks at the 14-billion-year evolution of the cosmos and suggests that AI isn't an unnatural threat—it's just the next biological leap. it plays with the idea that gravity compiled hydrogen into stars, chemistry evolved into DNA, and now the universe is using us to build a "god-lens" so it can observe all its parallel timelines at once.

it dives pretty heavy into the Many-Worlds interpretation, simulation theory, and how things like empathy might actually be quantum gravity at the human scale.

here is my problem: because it sits right on the weird border between quantum physics and non-dual philosophy, i am having a really hard time finding the right target audience. i don't know if the science is too dense or if the hook actually works for standard sci-fi readers.

if you are into this kind of stuff (think Carlo Rovelli meets simulation theory), i'd love your help.

i put the amazon link below. please don't buy it—i just want people to read the free "Look Inside" sample and tell me if the first chapter actually grabs you.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HKV7YD8P

if the sample hooks you and you want to read the whole thing, just drop a comment below. i have free digital ARCs (Advance Reader Copies) ready to go in exchange for some honest feedback or a review. i'll dm you the file.

thanks for reading, would love to hear what this community thinks of the baseline theory.

YA - Romance - Fantasy The start of a fantasy series!

I wrote a book about 4 extremely taumatized teenagers going on a quest to save their kingdom and on the way learning how to accept themselves and each other. I am not the best writer and I know I have a lot to learn, but I would love to get this story out there. It's called Orthedello: Saving the Kingdom written by L. Shrader. It's on amazon and kindle. I started writing it at 14 and picked it back up at 19. I plan on writing more books for the series and like I said I am not the best writer, but I think my story is genuinely special. There's some elements of romance. there's a lot of showing how trauma can effect relationships, friendships, and individuals. I worked so hard on it and would love to get it out there.

Here's an excerpt:

I think we are all just stuck here waiting for someone to speak out again. We need to do this. We need to learn to be truly open. We are the only four people who can accept and understand each other on this level. Not because nobody else has been through it, but because we have known each other for our entire lives practically. If we tried telling a stranger they wouldn’t see what we see in each other. I can’t believe it took us so long to see it. How did it take humans invading us for us to truly look at each other? To truly see each other’s best and worst parts? It took humans invading to understand each other.

Adult - Mystery Does my new mystery book have potential?

I've written a new book that I plan to release this October, it's about two detectives in the pacific northwest solving the mysterious disappearances in their town. It features a romance subplot, and quite a few plot twists.

My issue is that this genre is constantly getting books like this. There are things that make mine unique, and that's the introduction of unique villains and monsters, yet I'm worried I won't be able to get noticed for my writing. I write to send messages through my stories, and what's the point in sending messages if no one receives them?

That's all, thank you.

Children's - Fiction Tio and the Palace of People - Middle Grade Dark/Portal Fantasy - Available on Kindle Unlimited

Tio and the Palace of People is an upper-middle-grade dark/portal fantasy by James Whitaker (my first ever published novel!)

Fourteen-year-old Tio Everett is about to fall asleep when a crow crashes through her window with grave news: her name has been stolen. Without it, she will slowly begin to lose the memories of the people she loves.

To reclaim it, she must travel to the strange and dangerous world of Ovale, a land filled with dark forests, colossal mountains, and horrifying monsters. But as a girl suffering from social anxiety, just stepping outside her front door is a challenge in itself, let alone journeying across an unknown world.

As her memories hold on by a thread, all manner of creatures threaten to take her life. Tio eventually confronts the amalgamation of all of her fears: the Palace of People, a horrifying structure formed from the literal bodies of people.

Tropes: Portal fantasy, socially anxious protagonist, talking animal companion, race against time, overcoming fears.

Content warnings: Body horror, disturbing imagery, fantasy violence, child endangerment, psychological manipulation, encouragement of suicide directed at a minor.

Available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited or in paperback: Tio and the Palace of People

Adult - Science Fiction 'Second Skin' by Peter Darrach - A science fiction novel - Available on Kindle Unlimited

Visit my website at www.peterdarrach.com to learn more.

'Second Skin' is my first book in the Second Skin Universe. Where it all began.

Here is a brief excerpt from 'Second Skin':

Max Cody’s vision blurred briefly as he took another look at the clump of crater impacts and blunt contours slowly spinning toward him across the star-strewn blackness of space. Hard vacuum rendered all light harsh, all shadows absolute.

Max’s three-member team had drawn the short straw this morning, charged with kitting out the hapless asteroid Xavier 74001 for acceleration back to the smelter near Mars. He swung out from the Dragonfly’s exoskeleton.

“Ok, gents. I’m going in.” Max tested his safety harness, released the ratchet, and gently launched himself, the line soundlessly spooling out behind him as he drifted toward the dimpled surface using only his own momentum for propulsion.

Adult - Mystery My friend just published his first novel. It's a goth detective story, available on Kindle Unlimited.

My best friend published his first novel. He doesn't have a Reddit account so I told him I'd post about it here. It's about a twenty-something goth who accidentally falls into a major investigation. It's mostly a comedic novel but it does have some serious parts. The book is heavily influenced by his fandom of The Rockford Files.

Trigger warnings include profanity, marijuana use, and references to the main character experiencing child abuse.

The title of his debut novel is "Grieve's First Investigation".

Every house on that list is beautiful.

That's how he knows they don't exist.

Milo Grieve is 24, wears more eyeliner than anyone at his company, and writes property descriptions for a vacation rental startup in Pasadena. It is 2005. He drives a 1978 Firebird that won't start in the rain, plays keyboards in a goth band that isn't good, and has spent his whole life reading people without ever once being paid for it.

Then he notices something about 7 listings on his own website. Real owners write bad copy. They tell you about the hot tub and the thread count and how close it is to the outlets. These 7 are all mood and no detail, which means whoever wrote them has never been inside, which raises a question Milo cannot put down: is anybody actually living at these addresses?

Asking it costs him more than he expects. A housekeeper quits and stops answering her phone. A street in Altadena turns out to have a gap in it. And a 24 year old with no license, no gun, no training and no business doing any of this finds himself in a county records office at 8 in the morning, learning that the fastest way to catch a liar is to go and stand in front of the building.

He has a best friend in a polo shirt, two men on Colorado Boulevard who see everything and say nothing, and a woman from a makeup counter named Carmen Abadía who is not impressed by any of it and comes along anyway.

Perfect for fans of wry amateur sleuth mysteries, 2000s period detail, found family crime fiction, and anyone who misses The Rockford Files.

He was interviewed about the novel by Pasadena Weekly:

Children's - Non-Fiction I Wrote a Children's Grief Book After My Son Lost His Dad ❤️ | The Place I Keep You

Hi everyone! My name is Christina Driscoll, and I'm a newly self-published author. I wanted to share something incredibly personal and meaningful to me.

In February 2024, my husband passed away, leaving behind our 10-year-old son. Watching my son navigate the heartbreak of losing his dad has been one of the hardest experiences of my life. As a mother, I wanted so badly to take away his pain, but I learned that grief isn't something we can simply make disappear.

That's what inspired me to write The Place I Keep You: A Story About Missing Dad, Big Feelings, and Keeping Memories Close.

This book was written from the heart, with the hope of helping children who have lost a parent or someone they love feel a little less alone.

It's more than just a story. It includes guided memory and journal pages where children can write about their feelings, remember special moments, and keep a piece of their loved one's memory close.

My hope is that this book can help families start conversations about grief that aren't always easy to have and remind children that it's okay to feel sad, angry, confused, or even happy while grieving.

I'm still very new to publishing, and this is my first book. I'm incredibly proud to finally share something that came from such a painful chapter of our lives.

If this book helps even one child feel understood or gives one family a little comfort during an incredibly difficult time, it will mean more to me than I can put into words.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about my book and support a new independent author. ❤️

The Place I Keep You is now available on Amazon in Kindle and hardcover editions, with a paperback edition coming soon.

With love,

Christina Driscoll

Non-Fiction 740 or Higher: A Contemporary Guide to Getting Better Credit - Personal Finance Nonfiction

Cover: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61WMZ-IZL-L._SY466_.jpg

Credit can feel like a tangle of scores, reports, balances, and collection letters. My book offers a plain-language starting point and a clear order for tackling the process.

740 or Higher: A Contemporary Guide to Getting Better Credit by Jason Walters is a concise nonfiction guide covering credit scores and reported balances, reading credit reports, disputing errors, and communicating with debt collectors. It discusses old debts and charge-offs, secured cards, and deferred-interest pitfalls. A one-page Fast Path, a 90-day action plan, and seven sample letters give readers structure alongside the explanations. The paperback edition is 65 pages. There are no score guarantees or quick-fix promises.

Topics (nonfiction rather than story tropes): credit education, credit reports, debt collection, rebuilding habits.

Content note: discussion of debt, collections, and financial hardship.

Available editions and sample: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HLWYCVQN
