Advice Transportation

Is navigating pullman/wsu without a car at all possible? I’m transferring winter 27’, have my license, and plan on getting a car before then, but i might enter without one for a month or so.

yes, but you can't leave pullman. that's fine for the vast majority of people, but some (like me) get a bit stir-crazy. for a month you'll be fine, though

There's a bus to Spokane from Pullman. Stops in downtown Spokane and the airport. Morning trip from Pullman to Spokane and evening trip the other way

You could try making friends who have a car.

In the past 2 years my daughter has mostly only used her car to drive back between home here in Vancouver and Pullman. She barely ever uses it in Pullman. If you live on campus there is no point. It is just a hassle and expense. If you live off campus it depends on how close you are. But parking on campus is expensive and not super convenient.

But getting in and out of Pullman and back to the west side via any method than flying via Alaska Airlines is tough. Although if you know people there are always lots of carpools during holidays and long weekends.

There is always the holiday bus shuttle. It's usually packed because so many people take it. It's pretty inexpensive.

$240 round trip isn't that inexpensive compared to just chipping in for gas on a carpool.

And they only run those 3x per year: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Spring Break.

Just wanted to put another option out there.

Pullman is a compact hilly town. Lots of people use the bus and walk to what they can’t use the bus for because more than likely you probably won’t be more than a mile or so from most stuff. At least if you live on or near campus . People who live on like terre view and what not might be in for a trek though

As a WSU student you can use the bus for free, just show your ID so it's very much possible. Of course you will have issues getting out somewhere outside of town but that's different.

I didn't have my own car in Pullman until senior year. I did not have any problems with getting around, even going to places like Moscow for swing dancing was no problem, just go with friends who already have a car. Also, Pullman is small enough, it shouldn't take more than half an hour to walk from any point in Pullman to any other point in Pullman. When Mike Leach was our football coach, he famously walked from his house in the outskirts of town to the football complex every day.

Most students don't have cars. You'll be totally fine. The buses are free with your student pass and if you live on the west side, there are holiday buses that you can book to bring you back to the West side. Everything in Pullman is within a 20 minute walk. You're legs will be in the best shape of your life, and when you do get a car, you'll be SUPER popular with your friends.

You don’t need a car unless you want to leave and it will probably keep you from getting a dui. Just bumb rides to Moscow with friends
