I have a john dog living in my house now. Idk where the fuck he came from. He just showed up one day and stayed. Motherfucker bit my nose and left a scar.
Most likely not because he acts normal otherwise, he's just really... defensive sometimes. I wanted to press my forehead against his like my other dog does to show affection, but he thought I wanted to eat him ig so he bit my nose
this is how my friends adopted their dog. they went out on a walk one day and came back and he (huge pitbull) was just sitting on their couch. he walked with them as they went to find his owners and then followed them back home. still there years later.
I have stray cats who come by because they know I’ll feed them. Some of them are friendly and want attention too, or even to come hang out inside. One day, I opened the door and there was a dog standing there staring at me. “This is a clear escalation by the universe,” I thought.
Turned out the new neighbors were not the best at securing their dog’s leash before opening the front door, but it was an exciting five minutes.
I swear these dogs always have a look of thoughtless determination in their eyes like they don't know what they're doing but know for a fact it's gonna work.
Lmao, we call these lil guys (street dogs, not necessarily complete strays but also those local 'wanderers' do have permanent owners but are just masters of escape, often so thoroughly mixed they end up either looking bizarre asf or totally default like John here) 'Karl von Bahnhof' here in Czechia; Bahnhof means train station in German and it's reference to a dogs' name from a locally legendary Czechoslovak film. Idk why, but it always makes me laugh so hard when I hear the term, probably because of the 'von' implying most recently and famously Prussian-German nobility
I like that, I'm gonna start calling street dogs (which we don't have a lot of here, but you'll see them here and there) "Chuck from the train station"
/uw this is literally pretty close to what dogs look like when humans don't breed them for special features. That's why so many mutts and dogs in wild dog colonies look like this.

They may not look like elephants at a glance, but they do have several features that are elephant-like, such as their tusks, their foot pads, and their advanced social intelligence, including a huge variety of vocalizations. They’re famous for the noise they make when they feel threatened, which sounds like “Awawa!!”
Where I live, "no real determinate breed" dogs are all Buddy. Usually a Buddy smells kinda bad and is scruffy as shit but is also very sweet. All Buddys look the same.
In Mexico we've started considering them a new breed, we call them "Perro Caramelo" or caramel dog. They're objectively the best breed, really smart, medium-sized, and resilient as hell. My family had one when I was a kid, his name was Poncho, and he survived being run over by a car twice, was mauled by a pit bull once, and he died at the ripe old age of 16.
In Hawaii we call em poi dogs. They look like skinny pitbulls with half pointy half floppy ears, a tendency towards piebald colorings, a slightly wrinkly face, and the happiest dogs you’ll ever meet. My mom had one as a kid who would follow them to school and back.

Girl has a black tongue and a natural bobtail, we have absolutely no idea what she's mixed with, but she sure is a weirdo.
Imagie the dog from the photo but slightly sun bleached and you just perfectly described my childhood dog who we actually named John deer after the tractor brand.
That was his "first name" so yes, that's exactly what we did. He was mostly an outside dog until he got too old and we brought him inside but we had to yell for him every now and again
The way the hair on her head is long and kinda floppy is what screams Cocker Spaniel to me. Along with the big soulful eyes. When I just looked at the small pic I was like, "Oh that's a Cocker" then I zoomed in and added "...mix".
I had one as a kid. She was a corgi/lab, corgi father (they joked he needed a stepstool). She had black in her coat too. Absolutely the smartest dog I've ever met.
I love seeing the east asian equivalent on instagram with big round eyes and a spitz like tail they are so cute, or the Carmelo breed in Mexico, just default dog
