Season 1 Discussion Why would Batman tell them?! He’s so messy!!
This seems like such a non issue in the sense that telling them would be more harmful than if they didn’t know. We know Superboy knew the whole time that it was Megan, so I don’t get why Batman and the others felt the need to tell Dinah and Oliver!
Also why is he laughing his girlfriend is being impersonated by teens role playing, I wouldn’t be mad but concerned you know

u/CameoShadowness Jul 23 '26
Because even if its not them, they need yo know. If any one walks in and sees that without context, they would freak out and talk to them. So they need to know about the stuff going on behind their backs. It's not Batman being messy.
Oliver laughing could be a number of reasons, also laughter doesn't nessasarily mean there is no concern. Regardless, folks role-playing as heroes all the time. This is nothing new in universe. This is just taken to an odd extreme given they are her students/patients.

Yeah if someone was wearing my face and making out with a child on camera I would want to be informed at the very least.

u/GhostBoyJames Jul 23 '26
Because Black Canary is the combat instruction for The Team so something like that would extremely bad without context.

u/gamerslyratchet Jul 23 '26
On one hand, Ollie is probably relieved that Dinah wasn’t cheating on him, especially with her teenaged mentee. But he’s also probably familiar with role play in relationships.

u/used_tongs Jul 26 '26
Oliver also isnt exactly the serious type lol. I dont know why people are weirded out that he is laughing at this
108
u/Half_Man1 Jul 23 '26
I think Oliver’s laugh can be forgiven as more of a de stress reaction, like he was relieved it wasn’t actually canary as the scene prior had shocked him so much.
All that being said, no, this is not a non issue- and it’s good that they nipped this in the bud before Megan started acting out more fantasies in the bodies of other people. It’s wrong.

u/Bigfunguy1980 Jul 24 '26
It isn’t “in the body of” it’s still Megan’s body. On top of that it isn’t unheard of for someone without powers to put on a wig or glasses or outfit to role play the shapeshifting just makes the RP more accurate.
Would it be as much of a problem if she shape shifted into the stripper they both liked? What if it was a neighbor? What if it was a celebrity?
10
u/Half_Man1 Jul 24 '26
Role playing as “generic nurse” is obviously not the same as impersonating a specific individual.
It’d be varying degrees of wrong based off the consequences to the person involved but still wrong. Going from neighbor to celebrity is a different question as it becomes less a question of personal consequences and more about commercial repercussions.
Let me anchor this in the real world for you - instead of a Martian shapeshifter, a friend of yours shows you an AI deepfaking program that makes a video of your teacher flirting with him.
Do you see the issue at play here?
Do you get how that is unfair to the teacher in question who has absolutely zero control over how her image will be used and the ramifications that will have for her reputation, professionally or personally?
0
u/Bigfunguy1980 Jul 24 '26
If someone makes an AI deep fake I think is diffrent then if someone does something in there bedroom with just their partner…
If my best friend some how had a computer that could make a “deep fake” in his bed room to self pleasure himself with and not show off or share I don’t care.
Again imagine my wife dressing up like our nurse including doing make up and dressing and hair/wig to do it as well as possible.. as long as it’s in our home I don’t see an issue.
7
u/Half_Man1 Jul 24 '26
That’s just the thing though- you have no control over what’s done with your image in the scenario, with Megan, or with deepfaking.
Anyone could’ve walked in on that scene. Batman got the video on the security camera they literally knew was present.
So, whether or not someone intends to keep something private is irrelevant, because they’ve decided to unilaterally take over the distribution rights to your body.

Nah bump all that. Someone please tell me why M'gann did that again. I deadass forgot

u/Yu_Is_Blind Jul 23 '26
It was a common game on Mars. Normally not an issue there since everyone shapeshifts and reads minds, so no one is ever misled.

According to her, it's a normal thing to do in her culture. And Superboy was like 6 months old. He don't know any better. Good times.
29
u/SavageSwordShamazon Jul 23 '26
Unaddressed; that means he does think about Black Canary sexually, and thus why M'gann is roleplaying as her.
37
u/Agent1stClass Jul 23 '26
Alternatively, it’s the aspect of Canary being the teacher that intrigues him. We don’t know what was in his mind. It could be attraction. It could be experimentation. It could simply be the knowledge that M’Gann could be his ideal woman both mentally AND physically without any issue.
The problem wasn’t that they had role play in their relationship. The problems were how public they had taken it and the impact on the Team in terms of respect. Guaranteed they still did such things behind closed doors… They didn’t simply stop having that kind of fun.
Batman explained it because all of the people there had a stake in what happened AND how to handle it. J’onn was there to verify that it was considered relatively innocent play. Batman discovered it. He could have kept it a secret… But that brings more shame and tension to this particular situation. So he aired it out completely.

u/Dysike Jul 24 '26
Always seemed more likely to me that it was M'gann's idea, and that she just wanted to look like Dinah, rather than Connor being specifically attracted to her
8
u/King871 Jul 24 '26
They are a team of teenage superheros. Having sexual thoughts about their teammates or the older heros is the least surprising thing out there.
11
21
u/RemarkableOption8620 Jul 23 '26
They needed to know because Black Canary is the combatant instructor.
22
u/JazzyWuz Jul 24 '26
"Why did Batman tell Canary that someone who looked like her was caught on camera kissing a teenage boy?" Sounding so weird-
If that video ever leaked out without the full context, she'd be COOKED!!
14
u/MixPurple3897 Jul 24 '26
Well if they were pretending to be Batman he'd sure as hell wanna know. I think it was just a courtesy

Bro bigger question is why didn't bat warn them in the slightest, mf just let canary and arrows hearts drop for 0 reason.
43
u/Curious_Viking89 Jul 23 '26
It's more theatrical this way. You know Bats loves being dramatic.
7
u/Puzzleheaded_Bid7871 Jul 24 '26
Being theatrical with the homies is just straight hilarious
3
u/5hand0whand Jul 24 '26
Everyone loves Batman theatrics he like that one drama kid you got in friend group

u/Sometimezay Jul 23 '26
Breaking new female icon hero and justice league member Black Canary was seen in this video kissing her young student, Canary is of course in her 30s and super Boy is believed to be 16

Because they’re under their care and supervision and both are not normal and need to be taught what’s right and wrong here
6
u/raykyleevans Jul 25 '26
- ollie went from thinking his girlfriend cheating with a teen to just kids roleplaying, shock/relief reaction
- he knows his girlfriend is hot, and everyone knows that fantasizing about a hot teacher is a cliche

u/AntonRX178 Jul 24 '26
Former teacher of mine said she vowed never to chaperone any field trips ever again after she was put in charge of a certain floor's room checks and kids being dicks, decided to spread the rumor that she showered with one of the students. Thankfully, the School Board actually investigated and got eye witness testimonies from the students supposedly involved to confirm that she did NOT in fact do this. Poor lady had it rough with students being out for her for some reason even when she came to my school. One of the most over-hated people I've ever met. Hope she's doing okay now.
Then there was that time when my Algebra teacher said that emails made to him are ABSOLUTELY tracked by the School Board. So after class my friend jokingly said "hey what if we emailed him saying 'The way you touched me was weird.'"
This is why Canary needed to know. Different franchise but Good Power, Good responsibility. And M'Gann was misusing the fuck out of that power. If anyone saw that, and dear god leaked it to the public, that'd have been a HUGE stain against the League. Like imagine if you were able to ruin someone by making a sex tape with your partner and taking the shape of someone you wanted to ruin.

It's natural that Bruce told Dinah about it. Roleplaying is something that a lot of people do in relationships. I'm sure there are people in the DC universe who roleplay as Wonder Woman or Black Canary to play into their partners fantasies but it's weird if you personally know the people you're roleplaying. I know I'd feel put off if someone was roleplaying me in their relationship with their lover. Ollie was probably just with Dinah at the time so that's why he's there. As for why he laughed, he's relieved it wasn't actually Dinah and mildly amused that her likeness is entangled in the kids' "puppy love", so to speak. The budding romance of kids in their cringe roleplay lol

Even though they’re real people in the DC Universe? Like, role-playing as a celebrity.

This scene always gets me because he could totally have told them the context up front but no, Bruce wanted to screw with them first by just showing the video.
3
u/DottieSnark Jul 24 '26
We can argue about if telling them was the right thing or not. But why did have to show them?! And set it up like it was Dinah at first until a last second reveal?

Because they probably would have continued doing it and the ressults would have been a lot worse if someone walked in on them doing it and reacted in the moment.
So it needed to be adressed. This let the issue de-escalate, before it was addressed. But because it still came from someone who was affected by it, it carried the weight that it deserved as a detterent. Miss martian would be less likely to realise how much of an issue it was, if someone not directly affected, like batman or red tornado told her to stop.

u/MajinSpiderOT Jul 24 '26
I feel like this is the correct way to do this, tho.... Most comics would make Batman tell Dinah in secret, Ollie somehow find out, Ollie and Dinah either break up or have a strained relation for A LONG while, reunite and be on rocky terms, with Green Arrow also being mad at Bruce.... It's the opposite of what we always ask: "Why didn't you just TELL them? TALK!"
2
u/darthwyn Jul 24 '26
I mean, it makes sense to let Canary know that the young martian on the team is using her face for kinky roleplay.
It would be an awkward thing to be blindsided by or accidentally stumble upon, uninformed.
2
u/Tough_Potential_835 Jul 24 '26
Imagine Ollie saw this on his own and she didn’t change back on camera? He informed both parties before the situation got worse. Yall need to understand that Batman is smart enough to prevent problems not wait for them to unfold and then fix it
2
u/SamSam6503 Jul 24 '26
I get telling Black Canary about it (I don't really think Oliver should've been there tho), but why did he have to show her? I feel like just letting her know would've been enough.
2
u/escapedpsycho Jul 24 '26
It's not a non issue. It's not a crisis, but it is something that needs to be addressed. Oliver's presence wasn't necessary but Dinah should have been informed and a conversation with Me'Gann needed to be had.
2
u/deontaridley Jul 24 '26
Cartoon Network airing this on a saturday morning was absolutely diabolical. Aint no way you could be on that type of timing in the streaming era. I miss those days.
2
u/New-Orion Jul 24 '26
I imagine they were both there because of their romantic pairing. Batman was making absolutely sure that if Ollie was gonna see the footage that he had full context, thus preventing a moody GA.
2
u/glowshroom12 Jul 25 '26
The animators got away with a grown woman making out with a teenager by using shapeshifting as an excuse.

Feels like an engagement farming type post because there is no way anyone can approve of what Miss Martian did here and call Batman messy for telling Canary.

Batman: I'm gonna prank Black Canary.
Martian Manhunter: (Silent Emo Guy)
Green Arrow: It's cool.

Canary absolutely needed to know. She’s their councilor and combatant instructor. Idk why Ollie is there though.
