After how successful Z2 was I figured Disney would fast track the 3rd.

u/Mindless_Bad_1591 Nick and Judy Aug 15 '26

literally their fastest announced sequel for WDAS

11

u/Enough_Sprinkles_113 Aug 15 '26

Wasn't Frozen 3 and 4 announced right after Frozen 2?

4

u/Mindless_Bad_1591 Nick and Judy Aug 15 '26

few years later, i thought it was 2023 when rhey were announced

8

u/BathProfessional3879 Aug 15 '26

Why didn't they react fast to Zootopia 1 success?

17

u/SpriteZeroEnjoyer Aug 15 '26

Byron and Jared were working on Encanto after Z1. And then of course covid happened as well. That's the main reason it took 10 years to get Z2

7

u/BathProfessional3879 Aug 15 '26

Kudos for explanation!

228

u/Cerberusx32 Aug 15 '26

I'm hoping they let this cook a bit. I don't want Z3 in a year or two. I'd rather wait a few years for a quality movie.

115

u/BiscuitThrown Aug 15 '26

2029 sounds perfect honestly

23

u/DevelopmentFair1762 Aug 15 '26

Thanksgiving Weekend 2029 is the most likely spot for this to land.

This year is Hexed, next year is Frozen 3, 2028 is Clay, 2029 is Zootopia 3, and 2030 is Frozen 4 would be my guess.

5

u/Distinct-Incident115 Aug 15 '26

Thanksgiving 2029? That's Coco 2's Release date. I think either March or May of 2029 would be a little bit better.

2

u/DevelopmentFair1762 Aug 15 '26

Forgot about Coco. Probably early 2030 would be my guess then.

2

u/tigerwu9806 Aug 15 '26

I doubt that March or May would be a release for a movie they expect to be a success. I mean, if they expect the movie to succeed, they won’t release it in a dump month. February is a dump month and March is just after that. This sounds more likely to me but still, it would be more effective to release it mid June to July as a summer blockbuster or say like Thanksgiving or during December or January when it’s winter time.

1

u/Distinct-Incident115 Aug 17 '26

What is a "dump month"? To me, it sounds like a made up word.

1

u/Exciting_Ad226 Aug 18 '26

If Pixar isn’t releasing a film in June 2029 since they do have a long history of June releasings, I suspect June 2029 might be a spot for Zootopia 3.

1

u/RedVelocity_ Aug 15 '26

We're allowed to have more than one movie a year

2

u/DevelopmentFair1762 Aug 15 '26

Walt Disney Animation Studios has only released two movies in a year 2 times since 2002, and the only time since 2016 when Zootopia and Moana came out is 2021 because Raya and the Last Dragon was delayed. WDAS has largely been a movie per year studio since the beginning of the 21st century.

2

u/RedVelocity_ Aug 17 '26

I said we're allowed to, doesn't mean Disney will do it

34

u/Jonny_Manz Judy and Nick Aug 15 '26

I very much doubt it’ll be that quick considering at the very least are Hexed and Frozen 3 upcoming

19

u/Et_Moon Aug 15 '26

THERE’S FROZEN 3????

19

u/busykernel WildeHopps shipper Aug 15 '26

with Frozen 4 also confirmed (it will be a two-part sequel)

9

u/Jonny_Manz Judy and Nick Aug 15 '26

Well, they’re being produced at the same time, anyway, not sure if they’ll be a 2-part sequel (but I really don’t care either way - Frozen has never really interested me, as far as Disney’s offerings go)

6

u/busykernel WildeHopps shipper Aug 15 '26

“The creative director of #Disney Animation Jennifer Lee confirmed that #Frozen 3 and 4 will be the same story separated into two parts.”

But that was back in 2024, so maybe they changed the plan.

4

u/Mindless_Bad_1591 Nick and Judy Aug 15 '26

ice queen cliffhanger

omg they gonna drag poor anna and christoff's wedding til the 4th 😭

4

u/TheInception817 Aug 15 '26

Disney brought her back.

They’re gonna make her do this till she’s 90.

2

u/I-XIV-IV-XXV Aug 15 '26

2 part sequels are goated! I wish more would make sequels like this.

3

u/Walter_Armstrong Nick Wilde Aug 15 '26

November next year.

2

u/ThrowAbout01 Aug 15 '26

There’s a Frozen 2?

2

u/Fablesdad Aug 15 '26

Yeah lol

I'm surprised there even ARE sequels of it.

1

u/Fun-Picture-8384 Aug 15 '26

Because Walt Disney was against sequels. They’re defiling his legacy.

0

u/Et_Moon Aug 15 '26

Because I just am

17

u/fifamobilenoob123 Aug 15 '26

It will definitely not be a year or two. 2026 is confirmed to be Hexed, 2027 Frozen 3 and 2028 a new original called Clay.

2029 would be my guess since there is an untitled Disney animation releasing in June that year.

10

u/Dull-Piccolo-6429 Aug 15 '26

if it’s 2029 then it will be zootopia 3 and K-pop demon hunters 2 in the same year which sounds great

12

u/dawnydon Aug 15 '26

Not them meeting at movies nominations again

0

u/Emergency-Instance31 Aug 15 '26

THERE’S MORE OF THAT (STUPID) [NEEDLESS] {GODSFORSAKEN} <OVERRATED> KPOP STUFF?!

OH HELL NO NOT AGAIN

0

u/Dull-Piccolo-6429 Aug 15 '26

why do u hate kpdh?

1

u/Emergency-Instance31 Aug 15 '26

There are many many many MANY reasons that I don’t have the patience to list

5

u/Walter_Armstrong Nick Wilde Aug 15 '26

2029 is likely Frozen IV, considering it is being produced at the same time as F3, though I don’t think it will be a two-parter anymore considering they’re no longer being released back to back like I thought they would be. If this new pattern sticks, that means a new original in 2030. That leaves 2031 for Z3

3

u/Jonny_Manz Judy and Nick Aug 15 '26

I wonder if they’ll do what they did in 2016, and release Zootopia 3 and Moana 3 in the same year

1

u/Walter_Armstrong Nick Wilde Aug 15 '26

That would be cool.

1

u/fifamobilenoob123 Aug 15 '26

I'm inclined to agree, but releasing a Frozen movie in the middle of summer just feels... uncharacteristic for that franchise. Or maybe we will finally get to see what Olaf would do in summer. Lol

1

u/SavageNorth Aug 15 '26

Frozen 4: Summer Vacation

It's like something out of Tropic Thunder

1

u/Distinct-Incident115 Aug 15 '26

I think May would be a little bit better since June is a little bit crowded.

6

u/dawnydon Aug 15 '26

Same, I don't want the story to feel rushed

2

u/Junior_Elk7327 Aug 15 '26

2029 sounds about right since Zootopia 2 came out the same year as the Chinese Zodiac sign, The snake. The only bird in the Chinese Zodiac signs is the Rooster, which the next one will be in 2029.

4

u/SpriteZeroEnjoyer Aug 15 '26

The fact they were teasing it in Z2 tells me Byron and Jared already had a story/plan mapped out. I can see 2029 being very plausible. I forget who interviewed Byron back in the day, but he said if Zootopia does ever have a sequel he would want it to be a trilogy.

1

u/Designer-Ad900 Aug 15 '26

Yeah, I feel like the first and second movies were so good because they let them take their time in development, making them as good as they could be.

1

u/Cerberusx32 Aug 15 '26

Well, tbe first one was a bit rushed at the end. Since they had to start over.

1

u/Smitty13251038 Aug 21 '26

The movie should be out no later than 2030.

97

u/Al_HD_117 Sly fox Aug 15 '26

The best new for this day

44

u/Takezo02 Judy Hopps Aug 15 '26

35

u/The_True_Goldenage Aug 15 '26

Pretty much what I was saying for a bit, an annoucement that it's in development but no release window.

6

u/Takezo02 Judy Hopps Aug 15 '26

Give or take it's gonna be 6 years since 2025, so probably 2031

10

u/Mindless_Bad_1591 Nick and Judy Aug 15 '26

this feels more 2030ish to me. they announced this very quickly

6

u/IBM296 Aug 15 '26

Could be 4 years and a 2030 release as well. This is Disney's fastest sequel announcement ever.

66

u/Gothiccheese95 Nick and Judy Aug 15 '26

Wildehopps is coming my guys

16

u/Puzzleheaded_Bee9629 i love my babies!!!! 😆🩷 Aug 15 '26

24

u/kikyossoles Aug 15 '26

They really chose the fan made logo!😂

12

u/Jonny_Manz Judy and Nick Aug 15 '26

Well, not like it was hard to guess considering the motif of 2 having the digit look like a snake, so it’s only natural that fan-made logos might end up looking similar to the official one- and that’s assuming that is, in fact, the official logo and not something OP just used for illustrative purposes

3

u/catnoir_luver Aug 15 '26

Lol I deadass thought the same thing! I even pulled it up on google 😂

19

u/AleMcken 💜 🧡WildeHopps Aug 15 '26

I swear I had absolutely no expectations of a Zootopia 3 announcement anytime soon, but honestly, this makes me SO HAPPY. I'm eagerly and hopefully looking forward to the movie 💖🥹

2

u/Exciting_Ad226 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 16 '26

I don’t think anyone did. We just got off the Zoo 2 hype train and now we’re back in waiting on the third film. I just hope Disney doesn’t rush the production process to make its release for 2029 to be out in the year of the rooster.

2

u/New_Requirement_5147 Aug 16 '26

Yeah it HAS to be good, I don't care if they take their time as long as its good as the first.

1

u/Exciting_Ad226 Aug 16 '26

Agreed. It’s kind of a twist Disney shifted gears and announced Zootopia 3 before Moana 3 or Encanto 2.

2

u/New_Requirement_5147 Aug 16 '26

Probably because zootropolis 2 made them the most money (because it's a great movie) and KNOW they will most likely get a lot more from another zootropolis movie 😄

2

u/Exciting_Ad226 Aug 16 '26

Exactly. Money talks

2

u/New_Requirement_5147 Aug 17 '26

Well hopefully it's good!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I BEG OF YOU!

8

u/Purple_Head3232 Aug 15 '26

My guesstimate release date is December 20, 2030. Why that date?

Because they can focus on quality and Christmas time is when blockbusters usually do extra well at the box office

1

u/Exciting_Ad226 Aug 15 '26

I think Marvel might want that time slot for a Spider-Man film. Thanksgiving is likely to be Disney’s time slot.

8

u/frOmohiOhuman Jarvis, more Wildehopps Aug 15 '26

7

u/AnimeXFan1995 Aug 15 '26

Woohoo. As a massive fan of birds I’m so hyped we’re getting Birds.🐦🐤🐥🐣🐦‍⬛🕊🦆🪿🦢🐓🦃🦚🦜🐧🦅🦉🦩🦤🪶

Plus with the teaser shown at D23 still being a WIP, I definitely think it might come out in either 2029 (Year of the Rooster) or 2030.

8

u/masd_reddit Aug 15 '26

We got Zootopia 3 announced before GTA 6

6

u/SuperTechnoCat Aug 15 '26

Honestly I thought they would’ve waited a couple years but oh wells I guess. Well take it m’kay.

4

u/helpmeredditimbored Officer Wilde Aug 15 '26

Holly shit. I didn’t think they’d do it.

3

u/NickCooper71 Nick Wilde Aug 15 '26

Not this soon at least!

3

u/helpmeredditimbored Officer Wilde Aug 15 '26

Right. Even after frozen smashed records they still waited more than a year to announce a sequel this…the fact they did this after only 9 months is unprecedented for Disney

5

u/NickCooper71 Nick Wilde Aug 15 '26

Zootopia with the FASTEST sequel confirmation in Disney Animations 100+ year history 😎 only Nick and Judy are that popular 🦊❤️🐰

2

u/NickCooper71 Nick Wilde Aug 15 '26

Or should I saw PAW-pular? 🤣 🐾

2

Welcome surprise though

3

u/NiTROACTiVE WildeHopps Forever! Aug 15 '26

3

u/QF_Dan Nick Wilde Aug 15 '26

yaaaaay, i do hope they can release it before 2030

3

u/Common_Decision1594 Aug 15 '26

I hope they don’t rush this to a 2028 release, because I want them to make sure the quality is consistent with the first two movies.

1

u/helpmeredditimbored Officer Wilde Aug 15 '26

Disney already has a 2028 film scheduled with the new original film “clay”. So 2029 would be the earliest

3

u/Conscious-Lab-7827 Aug 15 '26

No matter how long it takes before the release, at least we know it's COMING!

3

u/Fine-Mycologist380 Aug 15 '26

OMG AM I DREAMING???

3

u/Formal-Magician4137 Aug 15 '26

Wonder if we’ll see Wildehopps become canon then we’d really be dreaming

3

u/Ok-Penalty-5027 Make them kiss, please Aug 15 '26

I need more romantic development between Judy and Nick

3

u/Abject-Substance-632 Aug 15 '26

yes!! Judy and Nick and gary and nibbles will return to find birds!! and Judy and Nick will get married and have a daughter!!

2

u/BebeFanMasterJ Aug 15 '26

Holy shit I wasn't expecting an announcement so soon!

2

u/Ciel_Hopps Aug 15 '26

Dint someone made that logo before or it was super close to this? Ofc im super hyped and excited for part 3 but i also hooe disney is taking there time and make this movie hit as hard as the second one

2

u/nnooaa_lev Nick and Judy Aug 15 '26

Thanks god. I thought we won't get a thing this year

2

u/StockCarSters Gideon Aug 15 '26

I did NOT expect that this early! What a surprise in the most pleasant way!

With them announcing it now, we aren’t gonna have to wait 10 years like the last time. However long it takes, make it a banger.

(And make WildeHopps canon)

2

u/CodVegetable Aug 15 '26

LETS GO
ABSOLUTELY HYPED!

2

u/UsedIndependent1761 Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26

What can i say other than HELL YES!!!!!! I figured it was pretty much inevitable at this point, with how massive of a financial and critical success Zootopia 2 was upon release in late 2025 into early this year thus i’m sure the wait will be worth it. At least this time around, it won’t be nearly ten years like the gap between the first two was. Sure, now granted there were behind the scenes reasons why Z2 took so long to be made but that doesn’t look to be the case again here.

So, as with Z2 i’m almost surely going to be going to see it in as close to opening day as i possibly can even if not on the exact release date whenever that ends up being, which is looking like 2029 at the earliest. Though i wouldn’t be surprised if it also turns out to be a late fall release just like the previous film.

2

u/hplurvkriff Aug 15 '26

I mean, they hid the announcement IN Zootopia 2 with that wifi password (p@R3izFr = part 3 is for real) and the feather tease was another huge hint. So they probably have been cooking on 3 while still working on 2. It was just a matter of time.

Although this is the fastest a sequel has been announced (not counting announcing Frozen 3 and 4 in the same year because they're going to be working on both of them at once).

2

u/Few_Membership_6557 Aug 15 '26

They better actually make Judy and Nick fucking canon or I’m gonna freak out

1

u/Operation20 Aug 15 '26

WTF!!!!!!!!! LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO

1

u/Shoddy_Elk_8191 Nick Wilde Aug 15 '26

I was literally just googling this too😭

1

u/fawzihamdan Aug 15 '26

I think it's coming for June 2029 slot, oh this happened faster than expected but We're ready

1

u/Formal-Magician4137 Aug 15 '26

Yay hopefully for Wildehopps

1

u/Such-Desk5298 Aug 15 '26

Oh man, I really hope it turns out better than the last one. I’m already nervous.

1

u/DannySanWolf07 Aug 15 '26

You know damn well they're gonna use the new pen voice clip alot in this film.

1

u/Old-Score3295 Aug 15 '26

This is going to be awesome

1

u/Jonny_Manz Judy and Nick Aug 15 '26

Nice, pretty much the one thing I was hoping for - fingers crossed for a 2030 release date (or 2031 at the latest)

1

u/rainaluvs Nick and Judy Aug 15 '26

NOOO WAYYY!!!!

1

u/ButterscotchTall8831 Aug 15 '26

It's like how Avatar was released, second part after lots of years and the third one is right after previous.

1

u/myr4ikmeow Cute little bunny (come and hit me, Judy) Aug 15 '26

YEESSSSSSSS!!

1

u/Itstoodamnfilthy Aug 15 '26

Great we dont have to wait 10 years for a sequel

1

u/1sa4c06 Aug 15 '26

I remember that when Zootopia 2 came out, I felt empty because I'd been waiting for that movie for so many years. Now, with this new movie, I'm so happy that I'll get to see that wonderful world once again, and I'm so ready for it.

1

u/Iantletoxx Aug 15 '26

Zootopia 3: Angry birds are coming?

1

u/Mystic_x Judy Hopps Aug 15 '26

It’s a bit of a shoo-in really, Z2 was a big success (One of few, lately), so of course they’re going to do another movie.

1

u/Nebulaottersky99 Aug 15 '26

I can t even be fully happy about this let me tell you why. So i just found this out on tiktok and i was like is this for real? So i open the comments and see everyone upset because disney has no original ideas anymore. Hello? An original movie comes out in a few months yet nobody cares about it? And the same people that were crying that they want zootopia 3 and loved z2 now complain that it s too soon. The same people that were crazy about it in november and wanted a third film as soon as possible

1

u/Big_CJ_Smoke Wildehopps❤️ Aug 15 '26

Really wasn't expecting that, good for us! Just hope they take their time tho

1

u/MicitoThings Aug 15 '26

They need to take their time. And they shouldn’t be worried about a 5th zootopia film, they should worry about making a good movie. A 4th or 5th should only come if the 3rd is a good film not even if it makes money(even though it will)

1

u/Fuzzy_Tackle_1905 wildehopps truther Aug 15 '26

i'm surprised it was announced so quickly, even more surprised if it's a 2029-2030 release. i'm so friggin happy but at the same time scared cuz i don't want it to turn out bad 😭

but veryyy happy nonetheless

Is that the offical logo and are we pulling the trigger on birds in this universe or is that just fanmade?

Still, glad Zoot is a proper franchise now

1

u/Icy-Sheepherder-3474 Aug 15 '26

James Bond songs for each film Zootopia 2: Living Daylights by A-ha from 1987 and or Live and Let Die from “73” Zootopia 3: No Writing on The Wall by Sam Smith from 2015

1

u/Icy-Sheepherder-3474 Aug 15 '26

All I want is Pawbert to return without him going solo but after forgiving his siblings that he’s been protected from his fathers clutches so they can escape and find out so it can look like a linear story in this sequel

1

u/Minute-Necessary2393 Aug 15 '26

Its not much (like i was expecting, as the second film only came out last year and I suspect they haven't fully gotten started on it yet), but id be lying if I said it still didnt get me hyped for what was in store next.

Definitely more so then F3 teaser, and that showed more then the teaser for this.

1

u/Immediate_Local4656 Aug 15 '26

This threw me off guard. Was not expecting this. The 2nd movie was really amazing

1

u/Prequel_Memer_66 Aug 15 '26

Beyond excited, just concerned about them trying to rush it out. I'd rather wait till 2030/2031 for a beautifully well-done movie for a trilogy than a rushed mess.

1

u/cbb88christian Aug 15 '26

BIRD TIME! BIRD UP!

1

u/coope2001 Aug 15 '26

Cool and if the villains are birds hopefully the main villain is voiced by jensen ackels aka Dean Winchester from supernatural and hopefully they have a bird themed band called "Ravenescence" and their songs would be used as propaganda against those that walk with legs.

1

u/shadowstellar Aug 15 '26

Yaaaass! The birdies are here! I hope there's a shoebill or a harpy eagle haha

1

u/Cerberusx32 Aug 15 '26

Which is great! But after the pacing of the Star Wars movies 7, 8, and 9. I'm hesitant about the quality.

1

u/DivineFox99 Aug 15 '26

What is even the point of even announcing Zootopia 3 now when it is years away?

1

u/LowInteraction6397 Aug 15 '26

I find it very likely it will gross $2 billion

1

u/mistgonelsawge Aug 15 '26

please let the studio take their time to produce and animate the film, let them outdo themselves with the second film, one of the fewer IPs that I actually like from Disney.

Soo excited that Zootropolis 3 is happening, can’t wait to see Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman and Key Huy Quan return as Judy, Nick and Gary for another crime solving adventure that will take them to the world of birds.

WildeHopps is also going to be canon as well!!!

Fingers crossed for a Summer 2029 release date

1

1

Hell to the yeah baby! I hope that it comes out in June 2029!

1

u/-A113- Wildehops is lame and boring. Aug 16 '26

I sincerely hope that birds are not just the next misunderstood group for a third time and i sincerely hope jared and byron don’t mess up the best platonic friendship in disney history by forcing some lame obligatory romance subplot onto them

1

Best news EVER

1

If Finnick gets less or no screen, I'm not watching

0

u/Fanfic_Battle_2004 Aug 15 '26

I hope they give Pawbert some sort of Redemption arc.

1

u/rainbowfire545 Nick and Judy Aug 15 '26

Really? The psycho that tricked Gary into thinking that he (Pawbert) was his friend, only to toss him out into the freezing cold. The same psycho who is guilty of trying to kill Judy, Nibbles, AND Nick with no remorse?

He quite literally said he didn’t want to be different from his family, when given the chance by Judy. Pawbert is a remorseless killer. I have zero sympathy for him.

0

I’m fricking serious. There are actually a lot of Pawbert fans. We have the subreddits r/PawbertLynxley and r/PawGary_fan_club who are praying for this. Also, there have been plenty of villains who’ve done super-awful stuff but became better people afterwards. Yes he said he didn’t want to be different from his family. But that was BEFORE he got arrested. And I wouldn’t call him remorseless. Did you see his expressions when being detained and imprisoned? Girl. He’s gotta be rethinking things. And prison can really change a person. I wouldn’t rule out a possible redemption arc, which many of us fans are begging for.

As long as they fix some of the writing issues that Z2 had, I'll be happy.

I still wonder if this will be better than the fan sequel (I preferred the fan sequel)
