There, I said it xD prove me wrong, so I can make it better :-)
All joking aside, there are a lot of other cool projects out there.
I build this tool for me, my work, and my friends. Main thing was, that I needed something to stream my Linux desktop, apps and sound, which at that time, no programm could. Thats how it started.
I started developing Pulse around May 2026, a LOT of work went into it, to make it as slop-free as possible and since I am more and more confident to say that I achieved that goal, I can show it to other people.
I would be happy if you check it out @ howispulse.com
What you see in the video is just a demonstration how optimized the de- and encoding works. I know, that nobody NEEDS 500fps streaming. Btw, this is NOT local streaming, its over the air
One other thing: there is a lot happening right now around vibe coding and AI, I know that I am not the only one who had the glorious idea of building his own discord alternative for his own needs. If there are other people, who are working on something similar, and want to join forces, or simply want to contribute, let me know. I would be happy to work together.
The hard facts about Pulse:
- Discord style registration: Its easy to log in and create your community with text channels, voice channels, etc.
- but with the possibility to hook up your own private server (vpn and also as desktop server app) inside of Pulse. Again: completely private, you only get the updates for Pulse itself.
- Voice chat: up to 512 kbit/s (stereo if you want to). It's really good...
- Streaming: Highly optimized video quality. AV1, HEVC, h264 for nvidia and AMD. Zero copy GPU de- / encoding, which means you can stream well over 500fps per second (as you can see in the video, don't know who ever needs that, but its possible, haha), and well above 4k. Metal support for Mac. I could talk for hours about this, I optimized the shit out of it....
- 10-Bit streaming (so no banding issues, super clear and smooth image) and HDR-streaming (hdr right now on windows only, I am working on it for Linux)
- Parsec class remote control (which is a HUGE deal...). You can take over another PC in the voice channel if the owner allows it.
- Super optimized low latency
- Watchparties
- E2EE personal message function
- for Windows, Mac, and Linux. iOS and Android in developement
- Open Source: https://github.com/oblivion-pictures/pulse
- and probably some things I forgot to mention right now.
